1.0 out of 5 stars Mahalia Jackson DVD
The sound (the reason I ordered the item) is pretty bad, seemingly a monaural track. If that is of lesser importance the 2 disc Video is o.k.

I regret having ordered the thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars More TV-clips from the late 50ies and early 60ies - than live concert recordings, October 13, 2006
This review is from: JACKSON, MAHALIA - THE IMMORTAL (DVD)
This is a repacked 1st dvd from Tangiers Ent. from 2003 (Mahalia Sings) plus a 2nd dvd wit songs that are included on different other dvds or the video-tapes from The Mahalia Jackson Collection, issued in the 1990ies.A rare son title is 'Remember Me' which stands on the video-cover but is not realy recorded on the vhs-tape.
Other songs are 'Lord search my heart','How much we can bear','Down by the riverside','He's got the whole world in his hands','His eye is on the sparrow','It is not secret','There is power in the blood','Nobody knows the trouble I've seen','Take my hands precious Lord','To me it's so wonderful','Have Thyne own way Lord','Give me that old time religion' and 'Hold me, don't let me go'.
Sound is good mono but none of these recordings are live but studio recordings for the tv.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great Miss Mahalia Jackson, August 23, 2007
This review is from: JACKSON, MAHALIA - THE IMMORTAL (DVD)
I had the chance to sing for her and she is the greatest (still), though I made the mistake of rebuying this, but, one of the greatest mistakes ever. What person in his right mind has enough Mahalia Jackson in their library. You should be so lucky to own one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Immortal Mahalia Jackson, April 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JACKSON, MAHALIA - THE IMMORTAL (DVD)
I have recently purchased 3 DVD's which are The Immortal Mahalia Jackson, Mahalia Jackson- You'll Never Walk Alone, Mahalia Jackson-The Power & The Glory which shair the same footage. Ms Jackson is on the same dreary stage in the same studio standing under arches or beside a replica of a stained glass window, or sitiing on a park bench wearing for the most part a choir robe. All are in black & white.
Buy this DVD which is one of the better ones primarily based on quality of sound. I enjoy the compiilation of songs in that some songs are slow & others have an upbeat tempo.
The list of songs include: You'll Never Walk Alone, Just As I Am, Lord, Don't Move The Mountain, Highway To Heaven, The Lord's Prayer, Tell It! Sing It! Shout It, The Rosary, My Faith Looks Up To Thee, Come On Children Let's Sing, Somebody Bigger Than You & I, I Believe, My Lord & I, I Ask The Lord, Joshua Fit The Battle Of Jericho, Lord Search My Heart, How Much Can We Bear, Down By The Riverside, He's Got The Whole World In His Hands, His Eye Is On The Sparrow, It's No Secret (What God Can Do), There Is Power In The Blood, Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen, Take My Hand Preciuos Lord, To Me It's So Wonderful, Have Thine Own Way, Remember Me, Give Me That Old Time Religion, & Hold Me, Don't Let Me Go.
While I enjoyed this DVD, I much prefer listening to CD's because they sound better on my equipment.
