Former Navy pilot-turned-JAG attorney Harmon "Harm" Rabb (David James Elliott) finds a connecting thread through a number of seemingly random cases he takes on in JAG (Judge Advocate General): The Complete Third Season. The thread concerns the fate of his father, a Navy pilot shot down over Vietnam and missing in action since the war, a fact that has possessed Harm since childhood. Building on scattered clues and shards of testimony, The Complete Third Season suggests that the elder Rabb fell into the hands of the Soviet Union, a possibility that Harm is compelled to investigate all the way through a taut, cliffhanger ending involving a stolen, Soviet MiG fighter. Not that everything is about one storyline. The rest of season three features the usual mix of interesting military cases, a few with strong parallels to events in the real world. "Ghost Ship" concerns the discovery of a human skeleton between two hulls of a decommissioned carrier (that happened to be where Harm’s father served). The remains are of a man who appears to have been murdered circa 1970, and the whole case brings back a lot of ghosts for Harm. "The Court-Martial of Sandra Gilbert" finds a welcome guest-starring role from Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays a Cobra pilot on trial for allegedly maintaining an affair with an enlisted man despite orders to cease. The situation pits Harm, defending Mitchell’s character, against his JAG colleague Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie (Catherine Bell), who volunteers to prosecute the case to assure fairness toward the accused. When the case becomes a hot, political football, both Harm and Mac find themselves in a very delicate situation in the national spotlight. "King of the Fleas" is an unsettling episode about a disabled, Vietnam War vet who kills a Vietnamese-American man he claims was a war criminal. He also provides the first eyewitness account that downed, U.S. pilots in Vietnam were taken into custody by Soviets, a claim that galvanizes Harm. Also provocative is "Above and Beyond," in which an African-American Navy SEAL, believing he is subject to a racist, double standard of scrutiny, chafes under an investigation into his worthiness to receive a Medal of Honor. --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars The Harm And Mac Attack back for Season Three of JAG! December 10, 2006
Format:DVD
Its rare when DVD season sets are released close together. Usually fans have to wait 10-12 months for a new release, but Paramount Home Entertainment has done right by the fans with this quick release of JAG Season Three on DVD, coming just four months after Season Two. Maybe its because they made us wait so long to begin with. But yes JAG fans, the Harm and Mac Attack is back for more. For those unfamiliar with the show, JAG tells the story of officers of the Navy's Judge Advocate General Corps. Both investigators and lawyers, the JAGs go wherever the case is, whether its on the deck of a 75,000 ton aircraft carrier or with a Marine fire team in the field.

JAG Season Three was a milestone of sorts as CBS picked up the show after its short Season Two trial run for a full 24-episode Season Three. Feisty and beautiful Marine lawyer Major Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie (Catherine Bell) is back again with Tomcat pilot/Jag lawyer Lt.Cmdr. Harmon Rabb (David James Elliot). Mac was a great foil for Rabb in Season Two, and their Season Three chemistry really stood out. Season Three also saw the fleshing out and development of the core cast, notably Lt. Bud Roberts (Patrick Labyorteaux), Ensign Harriet Sims (Kerri Turner), Petty Officer Tiner (Chuck Carrington), Admiral Chegwidden (John M. Jackson), and CIA Agent Clayton Webb (Steven Culp).

The visual feel of Season Three was improved, with less reliance on stock footage from films as was seen in Seasons One and Two, as the military began to see that JAG was a pretty good recruiting tool and respected the men and women of the Naval Service. Overall story lines were tighter and better in Season Three, focusing on more personal themes like the blossoming love of Bud and Harriet, the introduction of Harm's nemesis Clark Palmer, and the resolution of Season One episode Skeleton Crew, when we finally discover who killed Harm's girlfriend Lt. Diane Schonke. Also the widow Annie Pendry comes to the DC area, Harm has an ally in Congress with Congresswoman Bobbi Latham, Mac makes a poor career choice and falls off the wagon, and Harm continues to search for clues about his father's status as a POW/MIA.

The extras in the Season Three set will be somewhat limited due to the quick turnaround time between the release of the second and third season. Based on what we saw on the Season Two set, there will be one or two commentaries and probably two short featurettes. This set is in full frame 1.33:1, stereo and surround mixed, and has closed captioning. No widescreen, which is a drag, but not unusual for a tv series. Overall though, this was the first full season where JAG began hitting its stride. There were few weak episodes, and a fascinating season finale. One to pick up on March 20th. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Down and Only 7 More To Go! December 13, 2006
Format:DVD
I'm glad they worked so quickly to get the 3rd season of JAG out in just a few months. I have Seasons 1 and 2 and am enjoying them both thoroughly. JAG was such a great TV show and it ended before it's time, in my opinion. Now at least we can enjoy them on DVD, if they don't take forever to put Seasons 4 through 10 out. Harm and Mac had some of the best chemistry on TV, and there was a great supporting cast with characters that came to feel like family. I looked forward to every new episode and was seldom, if ever, disappointed. The writing, the characters, the action, the casting, the integrity of the show was beyond compare at times and I still miss it. At least now the DVDs are coming out in pretty good time (after waiting 10 years to put Season 1 out). Please don't make us wait too long for the rest of the seasons. There are a lot of people out there anxiously waiting for all of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful series continues... December 7, 2006
Format:DVD
I am glad that they decided to publish this set only 4 months after season 2 appeared. So I am hoping that I don't have to wait several years until I have the full 10 season collection.

Some things that I did not like so much in the season 2 box was, that there was no booklet included. I think, with a cult series like JAG, one could have put some effort into creating a nice booklet with maybe air-dates and some background information (as they did with "The X-Files").

Also I hope that maybe the next sets will include more specials like bloopers, interviews with the cast, etc.

Aside of that I have to say that those JAG sets are the most beautiful I have in my collection of TV-series. I like their art covers and the way the DVDs and its cases are decorated. Hope to see more of that soon...

JAG Rules!!!
Umm, you obviously aren't familiar with the show. The last episode on the Season 1 DVD set was never aired by NBC, the show was canceled first. CBS then picked up the show and never aired that episode or shot what would have been the conclusion. They did use clips from the episode, however, in... Read more
