Prior to getting the JAVOedge Axis, I'd just been using the iPad 'naked' and was too scared to take it out of the house. I then got a Zagg invisibleSHIELD fitted to the screen but it still never left the house (apart from the day I got the Zagg fitted at the mall).
I'd have to lean it precariously against objects to watch Netflix or otherwise hold it for long periods, which, despite my moderately muscular arms (flex, flex), is a bit of a pain after a while.
I actually got the iPad about 2 months ago and have spent a lot of my spare time researching cases and agonising over what design would be best.
I wanted several things from my case:
1) Convenient Protection;
I didn't want to wrestle with it to get it on and off.
2) Stand;
Ideally, I wanted to view in landscape AND portrait modes.
3) Style and Compactness;
Not too bulky or ugly.
The JAVOedge Axis seemed to meet most of those requirements, so I finally clicked purchase.
The good things:
+ Very convenient; you can slip the iPad into the case pretty quickly.
+ Clips firmly in place, I have no worries about it slipping out.
+ Stand allows for viewing in landscape and portrait modes.
+ It's very easy to use and balances well on your lap and other surfaces.
+ Unlike many other designs, the outside of the case acts as the base for the stand (other designs use the inner part - that later touches your screen - as the base).
+ Style is very subjective but I like the look of my Charcoal Axis case.
+ The grey pattern matches the wallpaper on my iPad nicely (unintentional but hey, I like it).
The not-so-good things:
~ Plastic moulding of one of the corner clips isn't perfect. It isn't totally messed up but it looks like it's hit something and bent slightly.
~ The stand can't give you much vertical in portrait mode (seems to be around 45 degrees, maybe a tad steeper).
~ portrait is less stable than landscape but it's not UNstable.
- The rubber strips / feet inside the cover (part of the stand) may mark your screen (wipes off)
The not good things:
- Unavoidably, the case adds some bulk and weight. I've pretty much adjusted already and accept that this is the price you pay for a really neat stand.
- The JAVOedge magnetic clip and metal logo make it look a bit feminine, almost purse-like. I am comfortable enough in my own manliness to ignore this. :)
- The JAVOedge magnetic clip is heavy enough that it flops over the screen slightly in landscape modes. Depending on angle, this may obscure your view slightly.
- The rubber strips / feet inside the cover had a chemical reaction with my Zagg invisibleSHIELD and etched permanent lines into it, which led to me returning the Zagg for a refund / removal. JAVOedge pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said it hadn't happened to them with other screen protectors they use.
I think that's about everything.
It's a fun case to use. Very functional. The material feels nice.
I'm happy with it. :)
