I purchased the JAVOedge Editor Axis Case on July 3rd, 2011, and have been using it for several days. So I cannot comment on long term wear and care, but I will update this review as needed. EDIT 11/22/2011: I have not had any trouble with this case after four months of daily use. I updated the concerns below as they did not really cause any trouble. Updated rating to 5 stars.

I previously used a Mophie Workbook case for iPad for about 7 months, until some of its features deteriorated to the point that I stopped using it. ( Mophie Workbook for iPad - Black ) I reviewed that unit and updated it with my concerns. So the JAVOedge is the replacement for the Mophie.

Like the Mophie, the JAVOedge is a stand-type case, which is how I like to use my iPad with a wireless keyboard. But unlike other cases researched, this Javo can rotate to also stand the screen vertically as well as horizontally. That is a nice touch.

In case you cannot tell from the pictures and description, this case has two distinct elements: the case backing and the front cover/stand.
1. The back shell is a molded hard shell that attaches to the back of the iPad and is held on by pressure. It does not take too much effort to slip the iPad into or out of the shell, and it feels VERY secure when in place. The buttons and all ports (and the 3G antenna) are not covered by the shell and are easy to access. The front bezel of the screen is not covered at all so when the iPad is in stand mode, you see the complete front of the iPad itself with its silver trim outline - it looks great. Those people who like a case that still shows off the looks of the iPad will love this aspect.

2. The front cover/stand is a more flexible, yet sturdy, flap that you can manipulate to create the stand. The cover attaches to the hard shell at one rotation point on the middle back of the shell. This allows you to rotate the entire iPad/shell into vertical or horizontal position prior to slipping it into one of the 3 angle grooves molded into the inside cover flap. The cover/flap feels very well made, and padded enough to protect the screen when it is closed.

The padded groove surface is soft and gentle on the screen when closed. It also leaves no marks on the screen, as I believe an earlier Javoedge design did. (not this Editor version)

It is hard to describe, but just holding this case feels very 'professional' and solid.

The elements of the case I have concerns with are:
1. The magnetic clasp that holds the cover shut is not strong. If the case were to get jostled in the wrong way, it would easily open and expose the iPad. This has not happened to me yet. I think an elastic strap across the edge would be more secure. EDIT: 11/22/2011: not a problem after four months. Has never popped open on its own.
2. The very design of the hard shell backing that allows the iPad to be viewed also leaves more of the edges open, so it is exposed more to the elements even when the case is closed. EDIT 11/22/2011: this has not been a problem after four months.
3. This case is not easy to fold all the way back, like for reading a book in bed in Kindle or iBooks. I find that the cover will fold all the way back on itself, but the axis hinge tends to rotate and make it hard to hold. I find it easier to just pop the iPad out of the shell for reading in bed. (at least it IS easy to pop it out and back in) EDIT 11/22/2011: after bending the cover all the way back with extended use I find it very simple to fold it back for reading. I no longer pop out the ipad for reading.

Those concerns were only enough to knock one star off my rating. So far I love the case. But I will edit this review as the case gets more use.

I ordered this on Thursday late afternoon and received it on Tuesday! Excellent service. I love this product. This is the second one I've purchased but this one is actually a gift for a friend for Christmas. I was so worried I wouldn't receive it before Christmas but it came so fast!! Would highly recommend.

Maybe for some folks that really take care of their things this case is perfect, but for me, my iPad gets abused. After about 6 months, this case started to show its age and wear. The leather started coming apart from the edges, then the plastic started to crack away. However, it did save the iPad on a number of occasions from drops and other effects of having 3 little ones fight over it.
