JAZ Innovations Oven Rack Guard

I own a set of the Oven Rack Guards and this is one of the best kitchen inventions I have ever seen. I am a kitchen gizmo guy and I love the latest and greatest. The Guards are great, machine washable (I just leave mine in all the time) and idiot proof! What the guards lack in style, they more than make up for in function. For Christmas this past year, I purchased seven additional sets for gifts and those people are now in love too!

I ordered these oven rack guards after burning myslef reaching into the oven. They do the job of covering the rack's edge and protecting me from myself. There is one problem that makes me say the product is just OK, and that is the discoloration. I use my oven frequently and after a very short time, the rack guards became discolored. They are cream colored, but very quickly darkened in an uneven way and are unsightly. They work really well, but don't look good. If that is not an issue for you then the product is a good choice.

Great idea. I wish I'd known about them years ago. The only drawback is that they seem to give off an odor the first time or two when you heat up your oven with them installed. But I know they will spare me many burns.

I read about this product and thought it was a great idea because I thought it would:

1. Stay cool enough in the over that you would be able to pull out the oven rack without an oven mit to check the temperature or flip what your cooking. They do stay cooler longer than the metal rack, but they get way to hot to be able to grab and pull out the rack without an oven mit.

2. Make it so touching the rack would be no big deal...like what's shown in the picture here for the product. Maybe I'm just a complete baby when it comes to heat, but they get plenty hot to make it uncomfortable to touch them. The will probably prevent you from getting burned, but you still don't want to bump them after you've had something in the over at 400 for 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, in addition to not providing the two benefits I thought they would they also have a negative drawback:

1. With these on your oven racks you can not easily slide dishes/pans off the rack because the "guard" creates a lip that you have to pick the dish/pan up over to remove from the oven. This is just annoying and actually forces you to reach into the oven more making it more likely you will come into contact with the other rack.

All in all, a great idea that doesn't perform.

Bought this product for my Mom for Xmas. It was a big hit. No more burnt wrists.

These have been around a while - and nothing has changed in the design.
It takes 1 +1/2 of another to cover the front of your oven rack so you have to order 2 and cut 1 in half.
"Snaps" used to attach are hard to 'snap'.
Must be removed to clean your oven. When I tried to unsnap the snaps, they almost were melted together. Had to cut the covers off.

I decided to order two of these rack guards after burning my arm for the umpteenth time. Although a klutz like me can manage to burn himself just about anywhere, its definitely the forearm that gets exposed to the searing hot front of the oven rack most often. If you're someone that uses the oven a lot, you know what I am talking about. (Even if you use one only occasionally, you still probably know what I am talking about). These thick, easy to install silicone based rack guards stay reasonably cool even in the hottest ovens. Cool enough that you can touch them and rub your vulnerable forearm against them without ever having to be worried about being burned again and saying a whole lot of naughty words. There is no question about there effectiveness, nor there durability either. The down side to these, (and all the ones available on Amazon it seems) is that they are all too short. They are designed to cover just the middle of the rack figuring that's where most of us will encounter the hot spot. Although that's mostly true, my experience with them is that in the process of sliding the racks in and out you can easily rub your arm or hand against any part of the rack and get burned. Yet all of them seem to be cut off at a certain point in protecting only what appears in the picture. Frustrating. (If you really want to cover the entire rack, you can order two sets and cut to size without a problem). Also, these strips are not any more resistant to stains and spills than anything else in your oven. They get dirty over time and are not easy to clean. Like the walls of your oven, after a while a lot of scrubbing on your part only produces passable results at best. All stains seem to get baked in as we all know and hate. Despite these flaws, I still recommend these JAZ guards. I have owned in the past the cheaper blue style strips also available on Amazon and they do not work at all in comparison to these. These ones do work, and well. They are reasonably priced here on Amazon, and near impossible to find in stores...

I've been using this for about a month or so, and haven't burned myself yet on the oven. I used to, occasionally. I haven't really "tested" it, but I rely on America's Test Kitchen/Cooks Illustrated (same company) that it does work - they actually did test it. They're simple to snap on, and then you don't have to think about them again...they just sit in your oven, keeping you safer. I highly recommend this for anyone who cooks/bakes a lot...and is occasionally accident prone :)

These work very well. These are the second pair we are ordering the snapes wore out on the first pair

My wrist thank me all the time for these little beauties. They are easy to install and have lasted the last year with no problem. One snap has given up the ghost but it hasn't effected the use of the rack guards. My Wife loves them to death as well.
