Product Description

Aquariums can get dirty quickly. It's not a surprise, though - all those plants, fishes , corals, food products, vitamins and supplements in just one place can sure accumulate a lot of dirt in a short period of time. Because dirt collects fast, you have to be faster with cleaning up. Luckily, you don't have to do it manually all by yourself. A lot of tools are available to you, one of which is the JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Cube Protein Skimmer Kit from www. petstore. com, a skimmer that skims off the thin layer of protein that forms on the water surface. The principle behind a skimmer is simple: It's a small cylinder with an air pump which draws in water. Then, the air stone inside it creates bubbles from the drawn water. The protein residue sticks to the bubbles' surface, so when the bubbles enter the cylinder, the residue does, too. When the bubbles pop, the residue remains inside the cylinder and is then collected in a cup inside it for later disposal. The JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Cube Protein Skimmer Kit does all that automatically and regularly. It is easy to install inside your aquarium. It is already equipped with a removable cup used for collecting residue, and also comes with its own air pump and air stone. As a bonus, it also has an air tube to improve oxygenation in your aquarium.

I wanted to get a really fancy one that uses a power head but hard to find one that fits and reliable. This JBJ is simple, but really works well. I get a lot of yuck brown stuff daily and it aerates my tank perfectly. Very happy with it.

I read all the reviews and many of them insisted that it wasn't really necessary. I would consider my self an intermediate, aquarium hobbist. (I have 2 saltwater and 1 freshwater The lukewarm reviews gave me cause for pause. I'm beginning to trust my own judgement so I purchased it and I was glad I did. The protein skimmer did exactly what I got it for. I had some trouble cycling a new tank and this skimmer worked overtime to help me clean the water. This does not replace a filter or good preventive maintenance.

If I had any complaint it would be the price. It looks like something you could make yourself. I couldn't find a better price anywhere else on the web.

It works fine, and it's designed for our 28G Nano cube. This is my second one, the pump only seems to last about a year, and the top plastic piece broke off from mounting, and unmounting the cup. Do yourself a favor and get a more power and more reliable pump and you will be good to go. Be careful mounting and unmounting the cup!

Received in good condition in 3 days. I've had this skimmer going since day 1 and it's still pulling out the junk out of my 28gal nano-cube quad cf reef setup after 5 days. It took about 6hrs, 3 adjustments to get the bubbles right. Right now I have the water level 2"s below the collection cup and the airpump dialed at about 75% output. The airpump is noisy and I will most likely change it out soon. Only reason I don't change it now, is because it's pulling out all that junk from the water and I'm afraid the mess with it while it's doing so well. The price was just fine and so far really happy with it. Four stars because of the noisy pump.
