This is a great tank for Salt/Fresh water. I've never had fresh water in mine but I have a friend running fresh and he says it's great. I have a Saltwater setup in mine and it has been wonderful as well. The PC lighting on it is good, Bulbs seem to last about 6 months before they need to be replaced. These lights will support most easy care coral (mushrooms, ric's, zoas, hammer/frogspawn) and any fish. The filter is fine for a small bioload and with 1 - 1.2 lbs/gal of live rock you can keep quite a bit. I've had mine for about a year, here is what I have.

Clean up crew -
4 x nas snails
1 x sand sifting sea star
3 x astra snails
1 x turbo snail
1 x emerald crab

fish -
2 x damsels - this is what I started with and the GF won't let me get rid of them

Corals-
1 x Hammer
4 x Ricordia
4 x Mushrooms
some Oulophyllia
and Lots of Zoanthids

**DO NOT PUT A FULL REEF IN THIS AS IT WAS NEVER INTENDED FOR THAT, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A LOT OF UPGRADES AND IT IS NOT WORTH IT. IF YOU WANT SPS, CLAIMS, HARD CORALS OR A TON OF STUFF START WITH A MORE EXPENSIVE SETUP AND READ READ READ.

S o m a n y t h i n g s wrong with this product. I can't even begin to explain.

Overall, the craftsmanship is terrible.

1. The hood doesn't sit flush on the tank.
2. The fans used to cool the tank are PC fans (and I have trouble believing they are rated for a moist environment. More on this later.)
3. The tank is acrylic rather than glass and scratches really easily.
4. The skimmer is a joke.
5. The flow in the tank is out of control. Small fish are constantly fighting the current.
6. On mine, even the logo sticker is crooked.

Seriously, I've seen some beautiful tanks in various forums that have been based on this unit, but mine has been a nightmare from day one.

It was shipped with a small fracture behind the plastic lip of the tank. It wasn't noticeable when I set the tank up. I think with more experience I might have seen it, but being a noob, I had no idea what to look for. The crack grew over the course of a month and now forms a perfect crescent across the top of the tank.

Dealing with JBJ for a replacement has been less than productive. Today was going to be my last push. I had forms, I had contacts, I even had an RMA. When I woke up I turned on the day lights and *poof* one of the fans (the PC fans I have a hard time believe are rated for moist environments) sparked and flamed.

So now, rather than enjoying my day, I'm running around trying to salvage livestock and find a replacement tank. I really don't even know where to begin.

At least ranting a little makes me feel better. 1 star is far too kind for how I feel about this product.

The lighting system is amazing. The splash-plate covers the bulbs entirely and the lights cooling fans run at a whisper. The filter system also runs silent and is well made with only a 106gph pump; I added an extra sponge at the filter intake to prevent small animals from being sucked in. The Nano Cube is made strong and is well worth the price.

Solid system, I've had one for over 5 years. Lighting is great for softies, and even monitpora grew well high up. Wouldn't do anything else unless you do a lighting upgrade, which is easy with LEDs. Not sure how any rusting mentioned earlier would cause a tank to crash... My pump didn't rust but if it did its nothing carbon wouldn't remove. A lot of folks prefer to add a hydor pump or similar anyway.

i've had my tank for 4 years and let me tell everyone that I know nothing about saltwater tanks. This has got to be the easiest and most practical tank that has ever been made. I do very little maintenance and my animals live forever. The parts are easy to find and are affordable. I get lots of compliments on my tank. I have a clown and coral angel thats lived in there for at least three years. My snails are huge and emerald crab is very happy living amongst the rocks. My coraIs strive(buy the hardy ones). I would recommend this tank to anyone. A couple pieces of advice, be patience, if you have any issues contact the company or your local fish store and do not over think keeping a nano its not that difficult. Thank you nano.

Tank started to leak after 8 months. Dont even attempt to call as it puts you in an automated loop where you cant leave a message because the box is full. Second customer service is horrible and the company policies are worse. They refused to overnight the tank but said i could pay to do it. so my livestock in the mean time, because it took them 3 days to respond, started to die in the 5 gallon bucket i quickly converted. They dont reimburse for lose of the fish and coral. They dont care that it will take 10 days to get a new tank. they dont care that their inbox is full. DONT BUY

At first I loved this tank. I had an older 5 gal nano cube from a different company and I bought this to "upgrade". I used the cube for saltwater for my two seahorses and some coral. It was the perfect size and would have been my favorite tank, had it worked.

These animals/coral had lived for a few years in my 5 gal nano. Sadly, they lasted only three months in this new tank before they all died. The tanks had been running for four months, including the initial set up time/cycling of the new tank. I am an avid aquarist who has been raising livestock for several years, so trust me that I did all the normal maintenance you would normally do on a tank, including water changes, cleaning, water testing, etc.

I found the root of the problem and the cause of the crash was the filter. The shaft that holds the propeller in the pump RUSTED and caused the pump to fail. Who designs a pump that RUSTS?????

Also, the design of the filter is flawed and I don't feel it gets enough oxygen in the water. IF you are going to buy this tank for saltwater, use a different pump (one that isn't going to rust on you) and invest in a nano skimmer to increase the oxygen in the water.

My friend had the same nano cube and his crashed after only two months. He doesn't know the source of the problem, but I imagine it is the same situation.

Also, the lid is designed and built really cheap. The front flip lid broke after one month of use.

I imagine this will be just fine for freshwater since it is not as corrosive of an agent as saltwater and may take longer to rust the pump.
