Great sound for the price,
By A Customer
This review is from: JBL Cinema ProPack 600II 8-Piece Home Cinema System (Gray) (Electronics)
I have the original 600 not the 600II but most features and performance are the same. Decided on the JBL after listening to a lot of home theater systems in the under $1000 price range. Bought mine refurbished from an authorized dealer so it had same warranty as a new one. The remote is a little confusing but the sound is great! It replaced my old larger system with Bose 901s so I wasn't sure I'd be happy but I am. Only problem with DVD played has been a few hesitations when playing enhanced widescreen DVDs but 99% of the time, no problems. Small speakers were a consideration and the 100 watt powered sub is more than adequate for home theater in a medium sized room. I think the model II may use an active sub powered from the receiver, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Had it two months and so far I am very pleased.

JBL Cinema Pro Pack 600II Owner,

I recently purchased a JBL Cinema Pro Pack 600II Home Theatre System and I am very happy with it. The system was easy to set up with very good instructions. The sound is great and I love all of the different sound modes available. I have had no problems with it at all! My only complaint would be that the buttons on the remote control are small and that the DVD and Receiver are large in size. I would purchase this unit again.

Not worth it!,

This review is from: JBL Cinema ProPack 600II 8-Piece Home Cinema System (Gray) (Electronics)
I've had nothing but trouble with this system since I got it in June'02. First the receiver wouldn't output video on the video2 port. Service seemed really helpful and responsive at first, they replaced the receiver. Then I tried to play CDs on the DVD player. Nothing but skipping and errors. Support tried to blame it on the CDs, but these were new store bought CDs. Support recommended I take it to an authorized repair facility which I did. After 1-1/2 months, it's still there! They found the problem but JBL won't send them the parts. It's still under warranty!! In 5 months after purchasing this system, I haven't been able to enjoy it. System's initial setup is easy, but is very complex in functionality.

I purchased this unit on September 13th, 2002. As soon as i got it, the DVD player's tray did not even open. The receiver was not giving enough output. so i called JBL and they seemed very helpful at beginning. They said they will cover the shipping cost and will fix it in a month. It's been 2 month now and my DVD unit is still in shop. I just got my receiver yesterday!!! i would not complain if it was working correctly. guess what.. there was another problem!!! Video 1 was not working at all!!! Now, JBL is being so rude to me and refused to replace the unit. Everytime i call this place, I have to wait at least 20 minutes, and then their service requires 2 months of my time!!! It's not worth, trust me. I purchased this unit for [xxx] dollars. I thought i got a GREAT deal at first. However, after spending over 2 months and over 4 hours over the phone with JBL service guys, I think i even lost money on buying this unit... DO NOT BUY JBL PRODUCTS!! THEY ARE JUST PIECE OF ...!!!

Good System,

I have not had the problems that others have had. This system is discontinued, but nonetheless, its a pretty good buy for about $500 or so. The speakers are very good, and the sub is okay, but a little underpowered. I like the DVD player and the reciever is very good for new comers to the Home Theatre world.

Great Sound, but Ergonomically Challanged Remote,
This review is from: JBL Cinema ProPack 600II 8-Piece Home Cinema System (Gray) (Electronics)
I picked this up at a national chain store for $$$$$. The sound is great for the price. It's still great at $$$$$. The highs are crisp and clear and the base has plenty of punch. The power is more that adequate, and the DVD changer seems to be competently designed. If you're looking for movie theater sound, this system delivers. But the system loses points for the remote. It has tiny buttons labeled with tiny type, all squeezed too close together and incompetently arranged. JBL knows how to make good sound equipment, but they need to repeat Ergonomics 101.

Overall, this is a very good system for someone with a budget. I've had mine for almost 4 years.
1. The Receiver: Pros: It has all the connectors you can think of. Cons: It's huge, it doesn't auto-select between Digital and Analog audio in. It is hard to find a universal remote that will handle JBL. 2. DVD: Pros: MP3 player, 5 CD/DVDs. Cons: It's huge, truncates the names of the songs, firmware sucks. Had to take it to the shop because it didn't accept CD/DVDs at some point. 3. Speakers: Pros: Good sound for the price, it includes the bases. Cons: Bases are not quite well designed or manufactured, may break. 4. Remote: Pros: Universal. Cons: Very poor design.

Cinema ProPack 600II has worked well for over 1 1/2 years,

This review is from: JBL Cinema ProPack 600II 8-Piece Home Cinema System (Gray) (Electronics)
We've had this system setup for over 1 1/2 years with no problems at all. It has a good sound that more than fills a 400 s.f. area (tile floors help). The remote is the only minor complaint, as many others have already mentioned. We're about to add a pair of outdoor speakers to the system and aren't sure yet how to do that (the receiver's speaker outputs are limited to the 5 speakers that come with it) but I'm sure there's a way. We feel we got a good bargain on this system and are very pleased with it.

Simply ROCKS !!!!,

I recently purchased a JBL Cinema Pro Pack 600II Home Theatre System and I am very happy with it. It was easy to set up with very good instructions. The JBL DCR600II-Z 6 x 100-watt receiver powers all of the speakers, including the subwoofer. It offers Dolby Digital, DTS decoding, and our own advanced digital processing algorithm, Logic 7, for enhancing standard surround modes and for creating natural multichannel sound from two-channel music or movie sources. The powerful JBL 2-way satellites and center channel are a perfect complement to the receiver and 8" subwoofer. You won't believe the performance and features you get for the price, there just isn't a better home theater value. Additional key features: JBL speaker system key features: So, if you get a better deal, go for this Cinema ProPack 600II without any hesitation!

About to go Office Space on this piece of cr@p,

This review is from: JBL Cinema ProPack 600II 8-Piece Home Cinema System (Gray) (Electronics)
I purchased this HTIB back in June of 2002 and was mostly pleased with the picture and sound until late November 2003. Now I experience all of the same problems of the other consumers with poor reviews. With the warranty now over, I'm SOL! CONS: The system didn't come with a powered subwoofer. The remote, DVD player, and receiver were not at all intuitive to use. The remote had poor ergonomics. I'll keep the satellite speakers and center speaker from JBL. But, the non-powered sub, receiver, and DVD players are getting replaced. Like my headline suggests, the DVD player is going to pay for its defectiveness. My advice for newbies to home theatre is to piece together quality components from top manufacturers in each area of a home theatre system. |
