JBL designed these speakers to work with a wide variety of configurations and placements. A promotional video shows them wall-mounted vertically and horizontally around a flat-panel display, set up on stands, pushed into corners, and even suspended from the ceiling in groups of three or four. A set of four would, of course, complete the wheel shape and would therefore be roughly omnidirectional.

This review is from: JBL ES250PWBK Wireless 400-Watt Powered 12-inch Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
The JBL ES250PWKBK is a very good subwoofer for 2 reasons:
1. Wireless is rock solid despite using 2.4GHz band but it disrupted the WiFi signal in the proximity. 2. Clean, powerful bass!I was very impressed with the frequency range of the subwoofer: 25 - 150 Hz. Adjustable crossover knob in the rear lets you scale it from 50 to 150 Hz. Phase (0/180) degree switch in the rear. LFE or Left/Right inputs in the rear to hard-wire.

First of all, by way of background...I got this to replace my Sony 12" 180 watt wired sub that was making a permanent humming noise. I would have gotten the 300 watt version, but at the time, the difference in price was only $10, so of course I got this one. As you might imagine, it is big and heavy but at least that tells me it is built well. I wouldn't, but you could probably use it as a chair.
Anyway, hooking it up was fast and easy. Once I could give it a good test (when the wife and kids were far enough away), I cranked it up and the house shook. We have a good sized living room with a 12 foot ceiling and open floor plan into the kitchen and dining room and it didn't matter; there was no significant dissipation of sound. When I have the volume knob to about 20% I cannot sit on the couch next to it, but if I scoot a little further down the couch, it does turn it into a bit of a chair massage. I actually had to turn it slightly at an angle so some of the bass would be getting pushed away from me. When I can crank it up and go outside, the window screens and everything on the porch are rattling. And dont get me wrong, these are good things. To sum up, make sure you got a good space to put this thing, seems constructed really well, packs a serious punch and is a breeze to set up. If the price falls again to being so close to the 300 watt version, then go for this one like I did. Otherwise, the 300 watt would probably be enough, but its nice knowing I got the other 100 watts just in case.

I was a bit leary of getting a speaker that was wireless, but my fears have been put to rest. I was able to place this unit exactly where I wanted it without having to cut into walls or run wires along the floor. The sub gives plenty of punch and I would recommend it to anyone in a similar situation.
