4.0 out of 5 stars 12'' wireless wonder, February 2, 2011

This review is from: JBL ES250PWBK Wireless 400-Watt Powered 12-inch Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
The JBL ES250PWKBK is a very good subwoofer for 2 reasons:

1. Wireless is rock solid despite using 2.4GHz band but it disrupted the WiFi signal in the proximity.

2. Clean, powerful bass!I was very impressed with the frequency range of the subwoofer: 25 - 150 Hz. Adjustable crossover knob in the rear lets you scale it from 50 to 150 Hz. Phase (0/180) degree switch in the rear. LFE or Left/Right inputs in the rear to hard-wire.

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing absolutely THUMPS!, November 24, 2009

First of all, by way of background...I got this to replace my Sony 12" 180 watt wired sub that was making a permanent humming noise. I would have gotten the 300 watt version, but at the time, the difference in price was only $10, so of course I got this one. As you might imagine, it is big and heavy but at least that tells me it is built well. I wouldn't, but you could probably use it as a chair.

Anyway, hooking it up was fast and easy. Once I could give it a good test (when the wife and kids were far enough away), I cranked it up and the house shook. We have a good sized living room with a 12 foot ceiling and open floor plan into the kitchen and dining room and it didn't matter; there was no significant dissipation of sound. When I have the volume knob to about 20% I cannot sit on the couch next to it, but if I scoot a little further down the couch, it does turn it into a bit of a chair massage. I actually had to turn it slightly at an angle so some of the bass would be getting pushed away from me. When I can crank it up and go outside, the window screens and everything on the porch are rattling. And dont get me wrong, these are good things.

To sum up, make sure you got a good space to put this thing, seems constructed really well, packs a serious punch and is a breeze to set up. If the price falls again to being so close to the 300 watt version, then go for this one like I did. Otherwise, the 300 watt would probably be enough, but its nice knowing I got the other 100 watts just in case.

I was a bit leary of getting a speaker that was wireless, but my fears have been put to rest. I was able to place this unit exactly where I wanted it without having to cut into walls or run wires along the floor. The sub gives plenty of punch and I would recommend it to anyone in a similar situation.

If you need a sub look no further. Bought this and 7 other ES series speakers and could not be happier. Not just some noisy booming box but a quality sub to compliment any system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Quality, April 30, 2011
This review is from: JBL ES250PWBK Wireless 400-Watt Powered 12-inch Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
As with anything wireless, I had my doubts but they were soon put to rest. The crisp, clean punch of the subwoofer was fantastic. The wireless component has never missed a beat. Well worth the money. Easy to set up

This thing absolutely thumps! I have a large living room with vaulted ceilings and in a great room style that includes the kitchen and dining room. Even at 50 percent, this sub is commanding. Ungraded from a 8 inch Sony sub and this is a whole new world. When I turned it up and went outside and shut the door, the siding on the outside of my house was buzzing with each bass hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, March 5, 2011

This review is from: JBL ES250PWBK Wireless 400-Watt Powered 12-inch Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
Amazing subwoofer, love this thing! Does everything I was looking for, replaced a 100 watt Sony, and it is simply crazy good; low end frequencies rumble out of this thing with ease, don't imagine I would ever turn the dial past 50% though. Wireless connection works great as well, very solid all around. 5 Stars!

With a $20 difference in price between this and the 300 watt 10 inch sub (at the time of purchase), I went with the bigger one, but I imagine the 300 would be stellar as well, this thing is overkill and then some.

After shopping for subwoofers for several months, I had given up because they were all so expensive. Nor could I find a wireless sub at a 'big box' store. I thought: "If sound bars can have a wireless sub, why can't I simply buy a wireless sub to complete my 7.1 system?" But there were none to be found.

I could not believe that not only did I find what I was looking for, but it was made by JBL and at such an unbelieveable price.

All I did was plug this baby in and it proceeded to work its mojo. I now feel my couch rumbling beneath me during the action of the movies! The reason you want a 12" speaker and 400 watts of power is to move the air so you can feel the sound, not necessarily to hear it at loud volumes; smaller, less powerful subs can hit the low notes, but not like this baby does!!

Setup was easy; I simply plugged in the small transmitter to my subwoofer out, plugged in the sub to the wall and done. I was able to move the sub anywhere in the room with no wires (my wife is happy now..major selling point).

It is also very easy to find the sweet spot for the level and crossover controls. I simply watched a few of my favorites and found a happy place for both controls where the sub worked its magic when called on, yet is very subtle and silent when it is un-needed; I do not experience any rumble nor is the sub too dominant in my 'mix'. There are no timing delays if you are concerned with that...everything's right on time.

This is by far the best purchase of my home theater...if you're on the fence, get off and buy this sub now and start feeling the action!!

I am limited with using wired speakers except close the the 60" Sony. I have hardwood floors but wanted the sub away from the tv. I bought this and problem solved. Easy to set up. Great sound. I would have bought the smaller one had I know this was going to be so powerful. Very happy with this product.
