I love it and my grandson wants one.

I will quickly compare this to my Bose Soundlink III, the Jawbone Jambox, The JBL Flip, and a 7.1 sound system.
Mr. Scott
The sound is clear and can be extremely loud with the right amount of treble and bass.

You might have read that the brights are bright, that the bass is a little weaker, and that at high volumes there's a little distortion. You didn't read wrong. It's a fine enough bluetooth speaker, but that's not the primary reason you buy this guy. It's the light show. And it looks just as awesome as these pictures would lead you to believe.

It's small enough to fit in a sidebag or backpack without taking up too much space, it's big enough to adequately provide music for a day in the park or an impromptu party in someone's apartment, and it's flashy as hell.

I have my audiophile tendencies/neuroses, but the sound is just good enough to keep me from being disappointed, especially whenever I look at the pretty colors flashing about.

The downside is the battery life. If you plan on having a party going longer than 5~ hours, maybe you should think about some backup juice for this guy, because he won't make it.

Pros:
* Flashy lights
* Sounds good enough
* Can get loud as hell
* iTunes visualizer feels inferior in its presence

Cons:
* Bass a little weaker than I'd like
* Treble a little brighter than I'd like (both these issues are fixed with good EQ'ing)
* Cannot keep on keepin on when the party runs long
* Probs gonna get stolen in the park, it's too pretty, I'm gonna cry. Seriously.

Verdict: Buy this and party.

This thing is really COOL... so many possible patterns to display and you can download new patterns from mobile device to the speaker wirelessly, how COOL is that?! It's uber COOL that's what it is! You can also change color, brightness, so many little tweaks. My kids love it... me too!

Unfortunately, that's where the coolness stop...

Battery life is stated as 5 hours, much less than many others. In real use, I've gotten less. The 5 hours is probably stated without the light show. So you can't drag this thing outdoors for a day and expect it to work.

Now for the sound. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I have ears... so I can hear highs and lows. I'm mostly comparing this to other speakers of the same size, even shape. The highs and mids are really good, very clear and crisp. But the bass is so lacking it's almost sad. If you listen to some classical without the deep bass it's pretty darn good. Even some vocal POP without big bass is pretty good. If you listen to anything with some meaningful bass, it's sad to say it's sad... If I compare this to my sound bar or Bose Sounddock it's even sadder... I know you can't compare to those, but I'm just saying...

But hay, my kids use it. They like it. I listen to it for convenience at times, it's ok. For $200 and its sound quality, not worth it at all. For $200 with its sound factor and battery life, even worse deal. For $200 and its sound quality with it's COOL light show factor... perhaps you can justify the buy...

Hope this helped a bit...

Jbl flip is one of the first bluetooth wireless speakers ive owned and it exceeded my expectations and is in fact louder and has more bass then Beats Pill.
When it comes to speakers i like looking into the specifics of them (which most bluetooth speakers dont apply)
And when it came to the Flip and the Pulse, they had Watt ratings which was convenient and gave me an idea of what i was buying
Flip: 5Wx2 (5 rms @ 12v , 10W total)
Pulse: 6Wx2 (6 rms @ 5v, 12W total)

when i seen that the pulse had more watts, i just had to get my hands on it. once i did , i turned it on and was dissapointed...
I got a defective one and after 2 weeks of careful use the bottom right half row of LEDs is a different color then the rest, going to return asap

~The LEDs are awesome, BUT the Flip was louder and clearer considering the pulse is COVERED by a sheet of LEDs, and im not sure if the pulse had a port hole which makes it also lack in bass
~LEDs best for indoor use, can hardly see it in the sun
~Battery life is Awesome, lasts way longer then the flip, then again takes way longer to charge
~I get Compliments all the time when i play it in class, and they tend to ask me where i got it and how much it was, etc.

If you want a speaker for looks, and to show it off. the Pulse is for you
If you want a speaker for quality and loudness, then your better off with the Flip for 1/2 the price

Just Because JBL made an awesome speaker, and overall i like what they do, im giving them 4* despite the flaws

*And you cant use Pulse for hands free calling like the FLIP if your using bluetooth from your phone

Bought it for my daughter to use, but I ended up using it. Nothing like a few adults gathering around a table having a few cocktails and reminiscing about the music we used to listen to, with an electronic light show (lava lamp updated).
We have several canister type speakers, but the JBL is much clearer and more powerful (don't expect heavy bass).
I havent tested the full battery life because I only needed it for 3-4 hours and thats good enough for me. If I need more I'll plug it in.
Its a little expensive and should come with a case so that it doesn't accidently get turned on and drain the battery (oh yes I did), but the Pulse is a lot of fun
