I ordered this iphone 5 docking station because JBL has a decent rep for sound, and I didn't want a huge dock/charger. I don't really have a "case" on my phone, just one of those edge protectors...so my phone fit fine onto the lightning plug.

Controls are pretty simple on the dock.. "On/Off button, volume up and down, and mute. Has a little blue LED that gives you status reports (dock batteries dying, unit on, but that's about it).

If you're looking to have a dock that's not too conspicuous, this one may fit the bill...but be aware that the wall plug is roughly half the size of the dock itself (which means it ain't too small).

Come on people, I am tired of having power supplies that are bigger than the unit they are powering! Put an extra couple bucks in to the manu-process and give me a switched-mode power supply, and knock down the size of the transformer. (Heck, Apple did it with my iPad charger!)

But I digress. Aside from the big power supply, the JBL speakers give pretty decent sound (I'm using mine in the bathroom, so acoustics are going to be different than if you try and use this out on your deck).

The only other thing to be wary of, is that the dock holds your phone by it's lightning connector (well, with a little rubberized bar to support the back, near the bottom of the phone as well). It's stable, as long as you aren't trying to change apps or are otherwise messing with the phone's screen very much. You just have to be kind of careful with it.

This is a really nice, solid unit from JBL. However, it won't work with any case on your iPhone. The lightning connector is just too short.

I'm a musician, so I tend to be picky, but I needed a player for a small space for my acupuncture treatment room and this looked like the right size and had good reviews, but really wasn't expecting anything fantastic and was just going to be okay with that. Well, it does not disappoint at all! I actually think it might sound better than the Bose docking system my old roommate had. While the Bose probably could go stronger on bass than this one can, I think the mid-tones and high tones are much crisper, and there are some elements in songs that I did not pick up on with the Bose.

Super impressed. Doesn't have any individual sound adjustments (bass, treble, mid etc.) but surprised doesn't really need them. Sounds good on almost every variety of music, ranging from classical without vocals, to rock with vocals, pop, hip hop. Just about anything. Nice, nice sound! SO happy I chose this model!

This is exactly what I was looking for, to have a charging dock that can be used without taking cover case off from the phone and to have a good quality sound. I got exactly what I wanted.

The first thing about this speaker dock that I noticed was the packaging: very easy to open with no plastic clamshells to pry apart. I had it set up within 3 minutes, charging my 5S and playing iTunes and Pandora. I bought this dock for work where it takes up very little space on my desk due to its small footprint. I don't have to remove the case from my 5S before docking it because of the open bottom. The sound is clear, and the controls are very simple (power and volume only).

For the price, this unit was exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to charge their iPhone 5/5S and listen to music at the same time.

This speaker dock is great. The only caveat is that you need a phone case (if you use one at all) with an open bottom, otherwise it won't dock properly. Other than that, I'm very happy with this item.

I purchased this unit in hopes that it would charge my phone and I could use it to wake up to music using the iHome app that fades in the music gradually as an alarm. Well, come to find out that if it doesn't have any sound coming into it, it shuts off after a short while. First it goes into "standby" mode, and then it totally shuts off. So of course I didn't hear my alarm. Looked on the JBL website, and it says "Please note that after 10 minutes of no audio, OnBeat Micro goes into Standby (5 minutes on batteries). After 30 minutes, it goes into full OFF. While it is in Standby, it will revert to ON status when it receives an audio signal, either from a docked component, from the analog AUX input or the USB input. From full OFF, it no longer wakes up automatically, but can only be turned ON again with the round Power Button. The reason for this is EuP regulations, which require products to go into automatic standby to save energy. We are sorry about any inconvenience caused by this." Darn. I was really hoping it would work as an alarm to wake up to.

I wanted a dock for my iPhone that had a speaker so I could listen to music while my phone was charging. I do not use this as an alarm clock. I was excited when I found this product. When my package arrived, I ripped it open with glee, plugged it in, inserted my phone and turned it on. To my dismay, the music sounded no louder than when my phone plays on it's own speakers. After a few minutes, I decided to read the instructions. Right there in fine print it read "does not charge phone while docked". I was disgusted. The two main features I wanted, both out the door. Before returning the item, I decided to take the case off of my phone and try one more time, just in case. I plugged my phone onto the dock and the music blared so loudly out of the speakers that it almost knocked me over! Also, I was thrilled to see that my phone DID indeed start charging. I have a very thin speck case (see photo) on my phone and I thought it was fully connected while on, but it was not. I decided to keep this item and I am overall pleased with it, even though I have to pop my case off to use it.
Pros:
- great loud sound, fills my whole (small) downstairs
- item is small and doesn't take up much counter space
- simple to use, only 3 buttons (on/off and volume controls)
- came with the A/C adapter
- charges my phone while it's docked (even with music playing)
- inexpensive!

Cons:
- I have to remove my phone case to use this
- cord is a little on the short side

I do not have a problem with my phone wiggling, rocking, or coming loose while it is properly docked. It is pretty sturdy.
This was exactly what I was looking for and I love it (it would only be better if I could leave my phone case on)
