I ordered this iphone 5 docking station because JBL has a decent rep for sound, and I didn't want a huge dock/charger. I don't really have a "case" on my phone, just one of those edge protectors...so my phone fit fine onto the lightning plug.

Controls are pretty simple on the dock.. "On/Off button, volume up and down, and mute. Has a little blue LED that gives you status reports (dock batteries dying, unit on, but that's about it).

If you're looking to have a dock that's not too conspicuous, this one may fit the bill...but be aware that the wall plug is roughly half the size of the dock itself (which means it ain't too small).

Come on people, I am tired of having power supplies that are bigger than the unit they are powering! Put an extra couple bucks in to the manu-process and give me a switched-mode power supply, and knock down the size of the transformer. (Heck, Apple did it with my iPad charger!)

But I digress. Aside from the big power supply, the JBL speakers give pretty decent sound (I'm using mine in the bathroom, so acoustics are going to be different than if you try and use this out on your deck).

The only other thing to be wary of, is that the dock holds your phone by it's lightning connector (well, with a little rubberized bar to support the back, near the bottom of the phone as well). It's stable, as long as you aren't trying to change apps or are otherwise messing with the phone's screen very much. You just have to be kind of careful with it.

This is a really nice, solid unit from JBL. However, it won't work with any case on your iPhone. The lightning connector is just too short.

I'm a musician, so I tend to be picky, but I needed a player for a small space for my acupuncture treatment room and this looked like the right size and had good reviews, but really wasn't expecting anything fantastic and was just going to be okay with that. Well, it does not disappoint at all! I actually think it might sound better than the Bose docking system my old roommate had. While the Bose probably could go stronger on bass than this one can, I think the mid-tones and high tones are much crisper, and there are some elements in songs that I did not pick up on with the Bose.

Super impressed. Doesn't have any individual sound adjustments (bass, treble, mid etc.) but surprised doesn't really need them. Sounds good on almost every variety of music, ranging from classical without vocals, to rock with vocals, pop, hip hop. Just about anything. Nice, nice sound! SO happy I chose this model!

This is exactly what I was looking for, to have a charging dock that can be used without taking cover case off from the phone and to have a good quality sound. I got exactly what I wanted.

The first thing about this speaker dock that I noticed was the packaging: very easy to open with no plastic clamshells to pry apart. I had it set up within 3 minutes, charging my 5S and playing iTunes and Pandora. I bought this dock for work where it takes up very little space on my desk due to its small footprint. I don't have to remove the case from my 5S before docking it because of the open bottom. The sound is clear, and the controls are very simple (power and volume only).

For the price, this unit was exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to charge their iPhone 5/5S and listen to music at the same time.

This speaker dock is great. The only caveat is that you need a phone case (if you use one at all) with an open bottom, otherwise it won't dock properly. Other than that, I'm very happy with this item.

YES it does fit Iphone 6 plus easily! I was worried that it might not, but it definitely does. Attached is a photo of my 6 plus on the dock.

The sound quality is surprisingly good for the size! It goes loud and fills the room with sound.

I also love that the lightning connector is on a pivoting piece, which makes it nearly impossible to 'accidentally' break the charging tip off, which was something I was worried about. The placement of the phone on the dock feels very secure and not easily breakable.

The only weird thing is the power adapter, it's a two piece adapter with a separate piece for the "prongs". I guess they made it that way so that their European model could just have a different prong attachment.... No problems with it, i've just never seen that before.

JBL OnBeat Micro Speaker Dock is a charging dock that turns your iPhone's little sound into an enjoyable experience. Until I recently switched back to Android with OnePlus One, I used this dock every day and night on my desk whenever I was home. By simply plugging it in, the dock works as a stand and charged my iPhone 5 very fast. Since this uses lightning port, iPhone 5 and 6 variants will all work without a case and some with cases. JBL is known to make good audio products and it doesn't disappoint on this dock either.

It features a smooth grill with speaker openings all around the dock from front to the back. There's a clean logo in the front, lightning port in the middle along with power button and volume buttons. It's worth noting that this doesn't come with a remote unfortunately, so you'd have to switch songs manually if you were to listen to music. There's power plug, aux in, and USB port in the back, respectively. While connecting a compatible device on top would output your sound fine, aux jack also proved to work with any other devices. The USB cable can be used to play sound out of other Apple devices that too, even though I never needed to use that ever. The speaker dock will detect the source of audio automatically and it may take a few seconds at times, but I found it to work easily and as expected. Having extra alternatives beyond the lightning jack alone is definitely nice.

If you wanted to cut the cord, you could also put in four AAA batteries to take your dock on the go. I've used it outdoor once for a picnic and using batteries didn't have any effect on sound quality at all. It's kind of interesting that the dock would charge the iPhone even if it's running on batteries, so it might make your phone last longer but the dock might die sooner.
