At 8.38 inches wide and 36.5 inches tall, the JBL Northridge E80 floorstanding speaker takes up a solid amount of space--far more than the smaller bookshelf speakers currently in vogue. But the impressive sound that radiates from the speaker more than justifies its size. When used in conjunction with a second stereo speaker or as part of a comprehensive surround system, the speaker makes music and movies come alive with superb depth and unmatched clarity. The speaker includes a 0.75-inch titanium-laminate dome tweeter, which reproduces high notes and dialogue at the peak of precision. Meanwhile, its 4-inch PolyPlas midrange and dual 6-inch PolyPlas woofers combine to deliver full-bodied mids and lows that sound rich and energetic whether you're playing complex classical recordings, bass-heavy hip-hop, or the latest sci-fi epic. Each JBL Northridge speaker also offers such features as a FreeFlow flared port, which minimizes distortion and boominess; an oval-shaped tweeter orientation called Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS), which disperses the sound at a wider angle for broader enjoyment; and a Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network, which divides the audio signal with minimal processing for a better overall sound.

Audiophiles will appreciate the dual sets of sturdy, gold-plated, five-way binding posts, which enable both bi-amping and bi-wiring. The alternate cabling methods can offer either subtle (in the case of bi-wiring) or significant (bi-amping) improvements in audio imaging and detail. With the low, mid, and high frequencies isolated, the speakers' quartet of transducers can reproduce their frequency ranges even more efficiently and with greater accuracy. In addition, the speaker's computer-designed, lock-mitered cabinet virtually eliminates distortion, and its slim European profile looks great in almost any room.

The E80's technical specifications include 200 watts of maximum recommended power, 100 watts of continuous power, and a frequency response of 38 Hz to 20 kHz. The E80 hails from JBL's Northridge E Series, which comprises not only floorstanding and bookshelf speakers, but also center channel speakers, subwoofers, and anything else you need to create a superior surround system. All Northridge speakers are magnetically shielded to protect against video interference and are covered by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.

The JBL.E80 have very good sound.They produce a very deep and open soundstage...The speakers have excellent,if not slighly recessed bass peformance...The highs are a little bright,but are easily tamed with a twist of high-frequncy cut, on your tone controls. Most people will like the sound,because of hearing loss,caused by listening to music via portable media,at high volumes,including myself...The speakers,when mated with a good subwoofer will truly rock...Please listen to these speakers at a friend or retailer to make sure you like the sound of these speakers...When purchasing please make sure they have a good refund/exchange policy of at least 30 days...I thank you stewart L.

These speakers have it all. The look great and sound even better. Listened to them at Best Buy then bought them from Amazon for much less.
