The E50s throw a changeup in traditional speaker orientation by resting as comfortably horizontally as they do vertically. The alternate positioning--which was inspired by the horizontal monitors seen in many recording studios--makes them ideal for people with bookshelves or tables that can't accommodate tall speakers, and for folks who just prefer the flatter look. The units measure 17.5 by 11.5 by 12.25 (W x H x D) and pack plenty of punch into the relatively compact frames, with 90 watts of continuous power handling and a max amp level of 175 watts.
The speakers' convenient five-way binding posts provide a variety of secure hookup options, including support for bi-wiring and bi-amping. The alternate cabling methods can offer either subtle (in the case of bi-wiring) or significant (bi-amping) improvements in audio imaging and detail. When the low, mid, and high frequencies are isolated, the speakers' trio of transducers can reproduce their frequency ranges even more efficiently and with greater accuracy. In addition, the speakers' computer-designed, lock-mitered cabinets virtually eliminate distortion, while their slim European profiles look elegant whether stored on individual speaker stands or bookshelves. Listeners can also mount them on a wall--an ideal solution when using them as rear surround speakers.
The E50s hail from JBL's Northridge E Series, which comprises not only floorstanding and bookshelf speakers, but also center channel speakers, subwoofers, and anything else you need to create a superior surround system. All Northridge speakers are magnetically shielded to protect against video interference and are covered by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.

This review is from: JBL Northridge E50 3-Way 8-Inch Horizontal/Vertical Bookshelf Speakers, Pair (Cherry) (Electronics)
The jbl is a very good sounding speaker system...The bass is solid. The highs are open and dynamic...There is a slight lower midrange emphasis...This can appear as a slight hollowness, with a boasted upper bass range...This may not be noticeable on rock or pop,but may be heard,on light classical music...The speakers have an an excellent dynamic range..These speakers will easily produce a clean undistorted output of over 105 db,when used with a good high current amplifier,or receiver, rated for at least 100 watts clean,at 4 ohms,20 to 20,000cps unclipped...The more clean power, the better, the will sound...Most speakers are damaged by low powered receivers, that clip...These speakers are in cherry finish, with free shipping...These speakers are identical,to the black ash version, but with no free shipping...I highly recommend these speakers, when mated with a good subwoofer,4 star rated...A very good deal thank you stewart L.
