JBL rules the roost on Bluetooth Speaker Technology!!!

As the new small lightning connectors on the newer Iphone & Ipad devices are relatively new (Oct. 2012??), the choices for Bluetooth LIGHTNING speaker docks are a little limited. As usual JBL comes thru. This is a great dock which I purchased for a new mini-ipad. I looked at EVERY possible solution and model for a bedroom dock to replace my faithful, but aging Panasonic CD clock radio.

As these were only recently released there weren't a lot of revues to go by, but it was a safe assumption they would be little different than the older JBL 30 Pin Onbeat Venue model.

Okay time to get down to the nitty gritty:

PROS: As usual JBL doesn't disappoint on sound. After wading thru a sea of cheap disappointing auxiliary speaker crap at Walmart the JBL quality (Bose also) is a welcome relief. No shortage of distortion free power and has excellent "throw" if that makes sense as the sound seems to "carry" farther at the same volume as other similar sized speaker(s).

THE HUGE SURPRISE WAS EQUAL AUDIO QUALITY ON BLUETOOTH AS WHEN DOCKED!!! NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERNCE!!! SOUNDS EXCELLENT EITHER WAY!!. Almost all Bluetooth speakers and devices tend to suffer from at least "slightly" degraded sound quality when connected by Bluetooth. THIS DOES NOT. I have a pretty good ear & couldn't detect any discernible difference.

Price: I found this online for $179 somewhere else, which IMHO when you compare it to other options is reasonably priced and of higher quality.

Size - About the size of a LARGE loaf of bread. Unlike other docks it generally fits comfortably on a headboard or end table. Not too big, not too small.

For once in the lives of my twenty-something/teenage children I believe they are envious of an electronic device that I purchased BEFORE they did! I shopped around a lot before purchasing this JBL product and very happy with my choice. I looked at Bose, Beatbox, Jawbone, Phillips, Sony but nothing had the same features at a reasonable price. The Bose Soundlink is $100 more but doesn't have a dock/charger, looks kinda clunky and from the reviews doesn't sound all that great. Came closest to buying the Jambox or Big Jambox but once again - no dock/charging capability and $100 more (for the Big Jambox). Both the Bose and Jambox products are rechargeable so that's a plus. The specs on the Sony and Phillips products were lacking and the reviews of the sound quality was lacking.

So here's what I like: simple blue tooth connection either with the free JBL app or through Ipod Touch settings. I have a 2,000 square foot home and I'm able to go anywhere in the house and maintain connectivity. Works great with Pandora as well as my own playlists. Great room-filling sound. Wall thumping bass. Even with the volume maxed out there's no distortion just clear, crisp sound. No regrets!

I am very satisfied with the sound quality, build quality as well as the design. The charger also works great. The only problem is when I connected it as a Bluetooth speaker with my desktop, if I plug iPhone/iPad to the speaker at the same time, the volume is messed up. No matter what volume level I've set in my desktop OS, the volume changes according to iPhone/iPad's level when there is a call or a message comes in. This really creates a big hassle. I have to adjust the volume of my desktop OS to a fairly low level in order not to receive a big bomb surprise at some time. :(

This is our first JBL for our new iPhone 5's. Okay, a little behind the times, but we uploaded a lot of music, took the JBL Venue and 1000 preferred songs with us. What a joy! Only drawback, wish it had the ability to charge and / or use battery back up too. Once you unplug, no music, so can't hike with it. Will get a smaller, less quality one for that I guess. Thanks JBL.

Just received this speaker today. Before I go on, let me say that this is my first speaker dock ever for an iPhone, or for any phone for that matter. Also, I cannot directly compare it to any other similar product because I've never really heard any other speaker dock. I bought this purely as a shot in the dark after reading reviews for many different speaker docks from different vendors.

Coming to the actual review now, let me say that when I plugged in the dock and played a song on my iPhone, the audio quality took me completely by surprise ! It sounded amazing, in the sense that you could get such good sound with such small portable hardware too .. ! So my first experience was great and I was happy with my choice.

Now I've had several hours to play around with it, and I have a couple of points:

1) Audio quality truly is amazing, but I would still give it about 9/10 .. Why ? Because at certain times (very few times) to feel that the audio is a bit muffled. Remember that I used the words *few*, and *bit*. So its very rare and virtually not noticeable. And even when it is, it can easily be fixed using the iPhones equalizer settings. But overall this is a very very minor issue and unless you're a total audiophile, I won't worry about this.

2) One thing I did find lacking though, are buttons on the dock for playback control. Imagine this: You have you phone seated in, and you want to change the track. What do you do ? Since there are no quick playback controls on the dock itself, you're forced to either try and control the device while its seated in (you have to crouch, limit your body motion to use the phone's touch system, etc.). This can be quite irritating at times to be honest.
