Take your favorite music outdoors without losing precious fidelity with the JBL S36AWII weather-resistant, mirror-image bookshelf speakers. Offering an adaptable horizontal/vertical orientation inspired by the monitors seen in many professional recording studios, the speakers are ideal for backyard porches and patios, or even moist locations such as near hot tubs or in locker rooms. Each S36AWII employs an exclusive 6-inch WeatherPlas cone woofer, 4-inch WeatherPlas cone midrange, and 1-inch pure titanium dome tweeter to make music and movies come alive with superb depth and unmatched clarity. The tweeter also boasts an oval design called Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS), which results in a wider horizontal dispersion of sound. The idea is simple: turn every seat, regardless of location, into the best seat in the house or patio. Additional audio enhancements include an IsoPower baffle that reduces distortion caused by cabinet vibration and a Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network that preserves the original signal for additional clarity.
The S36AWII's owe much of their outdoor versatility to their high-temperature, oversized Kapton voice coils and Heatscape motor structures, which stand up to intense heat and whipping wind. For added protection, JBL recommends locating the speakers under a roof eve or awning for best results, as the speakers are moisture-resistant but not waterproof. Should listeners not possess a suitable outdoor environment, they can move inside and use the speakers as bookshelf units or rear speakers in a comprehensive surround sound system. The speakers even come with special screws designed for wall mounting at a downward angle, which lets built-up moisture drain from the cabinets. In addition, the speakers are video shielded, so listeners can place them near TVs and video monitors without fear of picture interference.

I have two pairs of these. These are the reasons you should consider them.
. 1) They are a high quality three way speaker in a small bookshelf. Most bookshelf speakers are only two way so you tend to lose out on sound quality. These do not have that deficiency. . 2) They are higher end than average JBL home speakers. These are from the Studio line which is better than Northridge/Venue/Blaboa/etc. . 3) They are far more attractive than the average speaker. Most speakers come in some dark depressing wood, usually mortuary black or if you are lucky cherry. These speakers have a tough attractive white housing and they will blend very well with many decours. . 4) They are bookshelf speakers, not some ugly monstrosity of a tower. . 5) These speakers are good enough that four pairs of these and a sub would make a fine home theater. . 6) Price - at about $240/pair you cannot get anything else in the JBL Studio line for nearly that price. They put the same drivers in much more expensive speakers. .

Awesome Outdoor Speakers,

We were in the market for some quality outdoor speakers and after reviewing my options we chose JBL for price and quality. We live in Phoenix and had the speakers installed on our patio near the pool over three years ago and have not had a single issue since installing them. The speakers are less expensive than Bose and really deliver a quality sound. I would buy the S36AWII again.

I just wanted to let people know that for the price, the S36AW II 3-way speakers from JBL really get the job done. I've been installing home theater and A/V solutions for quite some time now, and these speakers really sound great. IMO, You can't find a better outdoor pair for under $400.
