Product Description

From the Manufacturer

True 2.1-channel sound from just two components.

Many home theater installations require five loudspeakers, a subwoofer and miles of speaker wire. The JBL® SB 300 greatly simplifies that situation. It's a complete home theater sound system comprising only a single amplified soundbar and a wireless powered subwoofer. The JBL SB 300 soundbar houses dual 2-inch (51mm) midrange transducers and a 1-inch (25mm) dome tweeter with 50 watts of amplification for each of the two front channels. The wireless ported subwoofer features an 8-inch (200mm) woofer cone driven by 100 watts of amplification. That's real power, but it easily fits into any listening environment. Just connect the soundbar directly your television, DVD player or game console, and plug the subwoofer into any convenient power outlet. You'll enjoy rich, full-spectrum, 2.1-channel output that dramatically improves the sound. Or you can select 3-D surround processing to create a realistic, 360-degree soundstage. Either way, the SB 300 delivers true JBL performance with the absolute minimum number of components - and without a speaker wire in sight.

JBL® Cinema SB 300 at a glance:

    Optimized performance.

The SB 300 soundbar and subwoofer drivers are designed and custom-built to work together as a single system, delivering better overall performance than stand-alone components for more realistic movie and music experiences.

The SB 300 intergrates speakers, amplifiers and control in a single, sleek soundbar with JBL's distinctive "weave" design

    Versatile front soundbar.

The SB 300 soundbar - one sleek component integrating left and right speakers, amplifiers and controls - is styled with the distinctive JBL® Weave design to complement the look of flat-panel TVs. It is magnetically shielded to eliminate video interference and may be placed on a tabletop near the TV or wall-mounted with hardware that's included in the SB 300's carton.

The wireless subwoofer delivers deep bass with the flexibility to put it whereever you want in the room

    Wireless powered subwoofer

The 8-inch, 100-watt SB 300 powered subwoofer delivers deep, satisfying bass without speaker wires. Unlike conventional, front-firing subwoofers - which interact with nearby walls, causing unwanted reflections that can muddy the sound - the down-firing SB 300 sub interacts principally with your floor, and its enclosure is ported for improved bass output and quality.

    3-D surround processing.

In addition to traditional stereo playback, the SB 300 features 3-D surround processing, which creates a realistic surround-sound experience that's effective for both movies and music.

Multiple connections means you can connect to your Blu-ray or DVD player and your television at the same time

    Dual input connections.

Connect to both your TV and your DVD player or another audio source at the same time, and eliminate cable swapping.

    IR remote.

A credit-card sized remote controls SB 300 power, volume and audio inputs.

For more than 60 years, JBL has been delivering world-class listening experiences where ever great sound matters.

From the pioneer in movie sound.

It was James B. Lansing and a team of engineers who developed high-quality movie theater sound in the 1930s, and it's been JBL® systems that have introduced successive generations of movie-goers to all the important innovations since, including 70mm stereo and Dolby® and THX® audio processing. Today, you'll find JBL equipment not only in theaters but also in recording studios, concert halls, arenas, stadiums, dance clubs and theme parks around the world. Audio professionals prize our systems for their power, accuracy and dynamic range. Chances are, many of your favorite songs and movie soundtracks were originally mixed and mastered on JBL studio monitors. But you don't have to be a professional to bring the legendary JBL sound home. We build exceptional home entertainment systems that incorporate many of the same advanced technologies, materials and manufacturing techniques that we originally developed for our professional systems.

JBL has done a really nice job with this soundbar home theater solution. The styling is very nice on the soundbar itself, although the subwoofer is not quite as pretty, but it's wireless and you can hide it behind a plant if you don't like the looks. A couple of things impressed me. First, it really sounded good. Very balanced sound with completely flat tone control adjustments on the TV. I also like the fact that the subwoofer has an adjustable crossover, so if I want to boost the bass control on my TV, and can control how muddy the bass sounds by dialing down the crossover frequency to tighten it up and make it more musical. Most of the other soundbars I have auditioned are all preset with limited or no adjustability. The sub also has a sub level control on the sub itself. It would be nice to have that on the credit card sized remote, but with these type systems, you are probably gonna have it close to maximum output anyway in a good sized room. The fact that there are 2 inputs, one digital optical input and one analog is also helpful, so you can connect an mp3 player or your smart phone easily with a 3.5mm mini-plug to stereo rca cable adapter.

Bear in mind, if you are looking for the true surround sound experience, this will not be anywhere close to the sound of a high quality receiver with 5.1, 7.1, or 9.2 surround sound. But if you want to greatly improve TV sound, simply and easily, this is a great way to do it. Connection is simple: one optical digital cable from the TV to the soundbar. Plug it in, then plug in the subwoofer in the desired location. Press the pair button on the sub, the light flashes 2 seconds then goes solid. You are done. Enjoy.

Compared to The Bose Cinemate series II, the Bose might have a slight sound advantage, but requires a wire from the remote control receiver to the bass module and wires from the bass module to the 2 satellite speakers. The satellite speakers may require a wall mount speaker bracket or stands at additional cost (in addition to the $599 retail verses $499 on the JBL). The Polk IHT6000 is same retail price, or $50 less on sale, but sub has less punch and no adjustable crossover. The LG has bluetooth, and more inputs, but max volume is wimpy at best. My best advice, go listen to this at the store, bring your favorite bluray concert video and go from there. But this is a top ten contender.

    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I'll start with what I don't like... the subwoofer looks like Darth Vader's helmet. And I can't put a plant on top of it because it's not flat.

That is the only thing I don't like.

But wow, the sound. Full, excellent range with no distortion at full volume. Not that anyone would want it at full volume, unless you've truly got a theatre. The surround sound is really superior for a soundbar. There is definitely a sense of sound moving from one place to another. True, it would be better if you had speakers mounted all over the room and made it truly surround, but this is plenty good. Probably the reason it works so well is the length of the soundbar: 46 inches. Very long and thin. Like a light-saber.

Did I mention the sound? Wow. Really excellent.

I like the pairing on these. My other sound system has channels that you have to switch to match the soundbar to the wireless sub, but with this system you just press the "pairing" buttons on both units within 30 seconds of each other, and voila! My other sound system has a problem with interfering with other wireless devices around the room. It slows my wireless internet, etc. So I turned on my other sound system with its wireless woofer, and my computer and its wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, put it all right near this new JBL sound system, all in an effort to screw up the JBL's wireless feature... just to see what would happen. But it kept going strong and steady and didn't interfere with anything else in the room.

The subwoofer has an Hz crossover adjustment so that you can fill in the sound from the soundbar with the sound from the sub; it's not just a woofer, but also another speaker. There is also a volume control on the sub in case you want to rattle your walls a little more.

The whole thing is very easy to set up. Took me 5 minutes to get it out of the enormous box, and 2 to get it all plugged in.

The force is strong with this one.

    Just wow. September 15, 2011

I purchased this thing at a local retail store and you'll need to hear it to believe this thing. By comparison, this soundbar is one of the best available on the market at a great price. It can be turned up louder than you'll ever need the soundbar to be going and you'll be impressed with this purchase. There is no noticeable distortion that I could hear of when turned all the way up. The only downside to this JBL is the fact that you don't get the actual physical surround sound itself. Simulated surround sound will never sound good as a good old 5.1 system but it's just not fair to be comparing the two.

The bass of that is including with this thing is wireless and packs quite a punch when compare it with the PolkAudio IHT3000, IHT4000, or IHT6000. Some say the sound is comparable to a Bose Cinemate II but I think the JBLs sound better. That Bose bass is just not enough for myself.

This thing has the slickest look of any soundbar out there. I just wish it were a little shorter but with the same audio quality. The setup couldn't be simpler, you just run a single wire into the tv. It only includes a standard RCA cable so make sure to buy an optical cable. At $499, this things a steal.

Buy it if you want some good sound with a simple setup. Don't buy it if you really want that physical surround sound and the pain of hiding all those wires.
