Great Speaker set for the price,
This review is from: JBL SCS136SI 7-Piece 100-Watt Home Theater Speaker System (Electronics)
If you are looking for a good speaker system for a great value, this is the system to get. I am an amateur home theatre enthusiast, and I recently bought this system to go finish my home theatre system. Every movie I have watched with friends and family, I have always gotten complements on how great these speakers sound. I don't use the 5th satellite speaker because my reciever only handles 5.1 digital surround (It's 4 year old Sony reciever that was top notch then) but it still sounds perfect. For movies, XBox and playstation or even just the t.v., this system sounds great. The sound is very clear, and even the subwoofer when turned up can pound away at all the bass effects in movies and video games. A must buy for someone looking for quality, performance AND above all, VALUE. Great job JBL.

I'm certainly more of an enthusiast than a trained expert when it comes to surround sound/home theatre... not to mention a price conscious consumer - okay, I'm always on the hunt for a good deal! When I came across this speaker system, I was suprised at what a big bang for the buck it was. Went to Worst Buy to actually hear the system (which I would suggest). Of course the kid working the speaker room was prepared to set me up with a much heftier sub, larger fronts, etc. For my application (6.1 Surround), it not only met my needs, but didn't freak out my wife. Sorry, I guess I'm one of those people that don't want a dorm room look for a theatre system.

Can't beat the quality for the price!!!,

I have a 3 year old Sony Receiver(top of the line when I bought it) I have had a pair of KLH 3 way tower speakers w/12" woofers, two KLH satellites and a sony center channel. My system sounded pretty good till the large speakers became annoying after our last move. I searched around for a smaller set and came across these in HHGregg for 299.99. They sounded awesome in the store. I didn't buy them in the store, I waited till later the same night and found them on Amazon for $100 less and ordered them. Let me tell you, when it comes to home theatre, size doesn't necessarily make the grade. I'm blown away and my large speakers are blown out. This is a great buy!!!

Out of the box this set worked pretty well. I had a listening room set up in the spare bedroom before my daughters were born and watching movies were a great experience. After they came along, there went my theater room. I moved the flatscreen to the living room but these speakers weren't a good match for the room and I didn't want to fish all those wires again so, I relegated them to the basement with the old tv and bought a Sony receiver to drive them. I had to mount wherever I could find space and I fight against noise from the heater and the washer/dryer. ANyway, the sub started popping and cracking one day. I thought maybe my kids had dropped something in the port but not the problem. Since the warranty had expired, I popped in another speaker (MTX) I had from another enclosure but it still sounded like crap. Since the cost to repair was likely not worth the effort, I tossed the sub and bought a 12" Klipsch Sub 12 for an increbible price from Newegg. This thing rocks. Now I need to toss these little JBL satellites and get some real surround speakers. Oh, and buy a new house with a true listening room.
I'd consider this set of speakers an inexpensive starter set. It doesn't reproduce midrange frequencies well enough for my taste. |
