Volume buttons do work if you know how to use them! DUH! SO CUTE AND SO POWERFUL!!,

Okay, I don't know why some people are complaining about the touch volume keys. At first when I got this product, I FREAKED out because I couldn't make the volume lower or higher- what I realized was that you can't just touch it with the tip of your finger. You need to like press it with your thumb lightly and with your index finger grab the other side. This can be done lightly- do it as if your trying to touch the tips of your fingers together with the volume key in between them.
I have no complaints EXCEPT that the bass button is on the subwoofer is a little hard to access. My subwoofer is on the floor so in order to increase the bass, I need to basically get on my hands and knees and turn the button that is next to all the other output wires. It's a bit hard to turn since the other wires are kind of blocking it. This is the ONLY negative thing. These speakers are little and produce the craziest amount of sound. If you're considering getting cute speakers that are girly and that are really strong and play REALLY good base- GET THEM! (By the way, they don't have wires coming from the speakers, they look like jumping rope which is easier to manage and so frikin cute). I'm a 23 year old med school student and I LOVE THESE!!! :)

Look cool, sound OK, but volume keys don't work at all,

I bought these speakers because they looked so cool. Very innovative design. The sound is pretty good, but not great -- decent highs, but the bass from the subwoofer isn't as strong as I would like. Based purely on the design and sound, I would recommend these speakers to others.
But I cannot recommend these speakers since they have a "fatal flaw". JBL really messed up when they made the volume buttons touch sensitive. Interesting concept, except that they don't work AT ALL. I can't raise or lower the volume, or mute the speakers. I'm stuck listening to everything at the default volume level. In reading some blogs, it turns out that others are experiencing the same problem that I am. Sounds like a fundamental design flaw in the product. I applaud JBL's effort to bring some style to the PC speaker market, but they went too far with the volume keys, putting form ahead of function.

When I bought these JBL I expected really good quality, but I got something even better, the sound is very crisp, the bass is perfect, the sound is just great to fill not just the room, even the garden next to the computer room is full of music. Great product, completely satisfied.

I love my fuchsia Spyro speaker system. It is so fun to use and great to look at. The sound is excellent especially the base. I have used my Spyro with my new third generation i-pod and it is fabulous. The system can handle a pretty large space and is perfect for smaller spaces as well. Initially I found the volume control on the speaker to be a bit temperamental but with some practice I am able to set the volume without a problem. My only complaint is that the system is so unique people are distracted by its appearance which makes it difficult to teach my yoga class. I may have to hide the speakers!

Not bad for the $80,

I paid a special onsale price of $80 and that's why I made the purchase, and this review is based on this price.
Pro: great design, nice to look at, decent sound quality and volume based on its size. Cons: Subwoofer not enough for really heavy bass but that's expected, tremble and mid range a bit lacking as well but again it's pretty normal for the size, the two flower paddle speakers can be knocked over pretty easily, you need to keep holding on to the touch sensitive volume control areas for a half second or so for it to react properly and continue to go up or down in volume, the audio in cable tip will produce noise if touched when it is inserted into the subwoofer so better insert it first before turning on the subwoofer. Overall, it's really not that bad for the price I paid. I immediately liked it right after it came out but I was not willing to pay for the higher retail price. Don't buy it if you are expecting really strong bass out of a subwoofer this small and don't use the full subwoofer volume if you buy one, as the bass can be a bit hollow when cranked to the full volume. I get better sound when connected to a PC than a iPod, and I tried setting the EQ on iPod but no matter what the setting the sound effect came out a bit un-natural, so I set it back to EQ Off. However, I believe I am a bit more picky and discerning to sound quality than some out there, and I am very into audio systems and all that, so this unit didn't blow me away when I first tried it, but I am getting used to its sound now. If you use it with a MP3, the bit rate of the songs also plays a pretty significant factor, as I can tell the difference between a 128kbps and a 320kbps very easily, the 320kbps song gives a louder and fuller sound for sure and it can match the output of my old CD player on bedside, so that's worth the $80 I spent but I am not sure paying over $100 for it.

a great buy, excellent sound,

first, let me address the issue of volume control that's mentioned in virtually every other review: it is initially tricky to adjust the volume level because of the non-mechanical, "touch sensitive" controls on the right speaker. so fiddle with the settings while playing music, set it as loud as you can, then use the volume control on your computer or ipod afterwards to adjust levels. Problem solved. That so many people appear to use the touch controls for adjustment is baffling, and unnecessary.
The system is on the slight side, but produces excellent sound for its diminutive size. The cables connecting the speakers to the bass unit are heavy relative to the light, "flower"-style speakers, but are plenty long and appear to be of very durable construction. The bass unit is a pleasing dome shape, and produces more than enough bass for reasonable listening levels. The controls and connections are all on the bass unit, so setting the bass level medium-high and forgetting about it is the best option. EQ controls in itunes or whatever will suffice if the need for fine-tuning arises. I paid around $50 for this system, basically cost for a friend who had a couple left, but I would have been happy up to $100 or so. A good deal and great sound from speakers that are virtually invisible and well-made.

I'm very happy with these speakers. I needed them so I could watch a DVD on my computer while I walk on the treadmill, and they needed to be loud enough to hear over the treadmill and my footsteps. Success!
I only wish they had a remote so I could adjust the volume from a distance.

I purchased these for my office and the decor is great and the sound is great. These speakers are great at producing full sound at low volume levels.

It's not okay! I can only control the volume using my IPOD, which makes for limited sound. I wanted to love this unit for the look, the price, and the brand. It seems that the Pink one is the only one with the intermittent complaint about the volume controls. I do think the controls work on some units, and doesn't on others. I paid $50 for the unit, and was disappointed. I had to return it. If you're thinking of getting this color DON'T! Try the black or white one. It might actually work...no complaints from those purchasers that I can tell.

I just bought these at Sam's Club for $40 (in white to match my mac)! I went online to read the reviews. I bought them because i saw they were on sale and for the price, they were exactly what I needed. They have great sound and amazing volume for the size of the speakers. I can't complain about the subwoofer since it's perfect for my needs. However, my only complaint is the positioning of the input jacks and bass control. with all the wires where they are supposed to go, it is very difficult to adjust the bass. Also, the way it's set up, the control is right next the rest of the jacks in the BACK... or the jacks are in the FRONT depending on how you look at it. All in all... not a bad buy for $40, but I'm glad I didn't pay Amazon's price.
