Executive summary: The JBL system is tiny, intuitive to operate and has superb sound. It is very reasonably priced when compared with the Bose system which prices out at more than $300. The remote control could be improved by allowing the user to operate the ipod menus from the remote.

I bought this system to relieve the burden of running itunes on my pc all day long. Itunes is a ram eater and was forcing me to reboot several times a day particularly when I had multiple applications running together with itunes. Windows and apple products still don't play nice together all the time.

The JBL Onstage 2 system is elegant, simple to use and has superb sound for such a small form factor. It's in my cube and I can't crank it up during the day; but at low volume it is remarkably clear for treble, bass and midrange tones. You'll probably want to use the ipod equalizer function to improve the sound. It can get a little muddy without the EQ turned on.

The remote control works from a distance of 50 feet and is completely intuitive. The remote could be improved by allowing the user to operate all of the ipod menu controls from the remote. Choosing playlists, genres, or altering system settings must be performed from the ipod itself.

I wanted something to be able to play my IPOD while I work in the kitchen, without a mess of speakers and wires. This is compact with tremendous sound, no set-up involved at all... just plug it in, insert IPOD, enjoy.

I bought the JBL On Stage II speaker just yesterday and tried it out last night. I am highly impressed with the sound quality. It is a small speaker that gives off comparable quality to that of a Bose speaker. Of course it isn't a Bose but JBL made a fantastic speaker at more than half the price. This speaker is a Harmon product (an audio specialty company) so it's good quality and delivers an impressive sound. I'd buy it all over again!

This speaker/docking arrangement is great. I have 3 of them placed around my home. The sound is good, the volume goes loud enough for daily use. I have used mine daily for about 13 months without any problem of any kind. If you already have a main stereo system I would suggest the Kensington dock that will play your iPod right through you system. Otherwise get this JBL. I also use my JBL when I go a friend's home who doesn't have an iPod.

I have currently owned this product for about a year now since I got it from the store so I wouldn't go to sleep with a pair of headphones on.
Set up took about 5 min, and was easy. I read the directions for about another 5 minutes and got the gist of it. The bass is reasonable and sound quality sounds better the more you increase the volume. It is compatible with all kinds of ipods so far. The volume can go very high, so I rarely put it up there. It charges everything as long as you plug it in, so I don't have to connect it to the computer.
It seems very durable, and is small enough to carry it around comfortably. It has a pretty good design of a doughnut.
I was surprised at its smallness at first, but quickly got used to it.
Follow the directions, and you should be fine.
Highly recommended.
Note: Only for home use or a place with an outlet.

I highly reccomend the JBL on stage II. this is probably the best deal available for big sound out of your ipod. yes I know you read reviews about bose and some of the other bigger speakers systems but lets face it they are pretty good money for one of those systems. do they sound better? I have listened to all of them and I have been an audiophile for at least three decades, and yes they do sound better to a degree. but I ask you is that degree worth another $100 -300?? this JBL produces room filling sound that does not sound like it is coming from a tin can. it is rich and there is considerable bass for such a small unit. one of the many things I like about it is when I mount my ipod classic I can sit it on the table in front of me and it puts the screen at a decent viewing hieght so now I can watch a movie with spectacular sound and with the discomfort of headphones. also it is ultra portable. Want to take it to a friends? or to your hotel room? the jbl is light and small enough to pull that off without feeling like you need another suitcase.it will easily fit in a messenger bag, a briefcase, whatever....carry it in your hand for that matter it's ringlike shape makes it easy to carry. the transformer is more of a problem being just a big sguare of weight.
also when I say the sound is good, believe me it is! I have had so many friends look at it and say "all that sound is coming from that little thing???" heck the first time I heard one I did the same thing. I was at a friends party and I thought he had a stereo blarring until I noticed this little device sitting on the end table next to his couch. So unassuming I had not even noticed it, until his roommate went over to change the music. I had been on the fence as to what speaker system I wanted to purchase for my Ipod and was leaning toward the very expensive Bose, but when I heard the sound coming from the JBL I was sold right there on the spot. I highly recommend you give one a try I really think you will be pleased.

Think twice about buying this model! I was testing it out at a retail store and it fried my ipod, as in a little trail of white smoke came out right before it totally went dead........... Apparently it did the same thing to a guy a week earlier. I went with the Klipsch Igroove HG. Its a beauty AND reasonably priced. Just as good if not BETTER than the absurdly overpriced Bose system for 300.00.

My daughter was expecting a Bose dock for her ipod, but I had heard this speaker at a small store recently, and decided that for half the price, I could give her a comparable item. She wasn't sure about the JBL speaker when she first opened it, but after hearing the quality, she is thrilled. It is perfect for smaller places (dorm rooms, offices, bedrooms, etc.)

I have had this speaker system for about a year and it worked very well at first. Then when I tried to put a different kind of iPod in it, it skrewed up and ended up freezing the iPod. The sound wouldn't work and if it did, it would have a clicking noise in the background. I put my old one in there and it skrewed that one up also. I ended up having to get a new iPod. If you are looking for a one iPod speaker for not very long, then it is alright, but not many people are.

I am so happy with my slightly used JBL - On Stage II Speakers for the IPod that I bought a second one so I can have one at work and another at home. The sound truly is incredible from this circular speaker that is very compact and doesn't take up very much room. The sound is very rich and vibrant. I also like that it can be used as a docking station to charge the IPod even when the speakers are not in use. Others have commented on these being overpriced, but I've bought both of mine used for 40 dollars in the market place. My mom and sister were both so impressed with mine that they wanted a set and also bought them used here at amazon. We are all thrilled.
