Product Description

Large vertical arrays of constant-directivity horns hidden behind the screen of your favorite movie theater or high overhead at major concert events have long been a defining characteristic of JBL Professional loudspeakers. It’s how they deliver the massive amounts of highly accurate sound and live music experience that large audiences expect. The most advanced JBL residential loudspeakers, including Everest DD66000, K2 and Project Array, also feature high-frequency horns, coupling them with powerful low-frequency drivers to achieve the highest levels of dynamic realism and dimensional accuracy. Now JBL Studio 5 Series speakers, designed by renowned JBL chief engineer Greg Timbers, continue this performance-proven tradition. The JBL Studio 570 floor standing loudspeaker combines a 1-Inch (25mm) HF compression driver and Bi Radial horn with dual 5-1/4-Inch (130mm) cast-frame Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) woofers to deliver extraordinarily lifelike performance. Ideal for both music and movie systems, the Studio 570 system is powerful, accurate and styled to make a dramatic design statement in any listening environment.

Key Features

5-1/4" (130mm) Low-Frequency Transducer

The heavy-duty magnet assemblies with Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) technology and delivers clean, powerful bass response at all listening levels. All of this technology is beautifully stored in a rigid, non-resonant cast aluminum frame, resulting in a crisp, high-impact bass performance and more emotional impact at all listening levels.

1" (25mm) High-Frequency Compression Driver

The one-piece Teonex® diaphragm/surround with 1" voice coil produces a significantly lower distortion and greater dynamic range than conventional midrange and HF drivers. This feature vastly improves realism and clarity, espeically at lower output levels.

Glass-filled ABS Bi-Radial High-Frequency Horn

The glass-filled ABS Bi-Radial High-Frequency Horn is controlled directivity at ear level of seated listeners minimizes unwanted HF interaction with walls and furniture, which creates cleaner, more realistic HF sound over a wider listening area.

3/4" (19mm) MDF Enclosure

The rigid, heavily-braced design with non-parallel surfaces reduces unwanted resonances. Such enclosure provides a clearer, more detailed sound.

Low loss, 2-way crossover network

The 2-way crossover network smoothes transition between woofers and HF compression driver/horn. The crossover network produces reduced distortion and coloration for improved sonic clarity.

Good Size, Great Looking, Terriffic sound!

The JBLs however; If the baffles are not in and if the 580s are too close to a wall or corner, the bass surrounds anyone within the listening stage like a cocoon.

The sound is very detailed due to the horn compression drivers.

Prior to buying the 570, I first purchased the matching bookshelf model, the Studio 530 as a stereo pair. I was so impressed with the bookshelf speaker, I next added the matching Studio 520C center channel. For music I really enjoyed the 530 model for stereo listening, and used the 3 channel set up as a partial home theatre. After several months of enjoying this set-up, I began toying with the idea of adding the smallest floor stander in the Studio 500 series, the 570. My listening is done in a moderately sized 11'X11' room dedicated to just my 52" tv and speaker system, with two theatre style leather recliners for a nice open space for music and movies. I hesitated on the floor standing 570's, fearing the bass might overload the space. After much research, I decided to pull the trigger on the 570 pair. I moved the bookshelfs to the rear and already had the matching center in place. WOW! What a difference.
The 570 floorstanders pack a much bigger punch, but without the boomy bass effects I was worried about. In 2 channel stereo mode these speakers are a pure delight, with an open, very detailed sound, big and very lifelike.Cymbals, guitars and vocals just sound totally natural. The mids are full and rich without being bloomy or overly dominant. The bass is tight and full, with good articulation and a sense of body to acoustic instruments. Overall, the 570's present a very natural sound, and the JBL horns are much better to my ears than all the various treble domes I have heard over the years.
In 5.0 mode, the JBL Studio Surround speakers form a seamless blend of highly detailed, very natural sound. Everything is perfectly balanced and forms a perfect surround field in my room.

I had missed a distinct bass in my speakers and when my old MB Quarts broke I decided to find something that filled the room, had a solid lower register while also presenting a good clarity and resolution in the mid and high sections.

So after some shopping around, I listened to JBL Studio 580 which was in the size that I was most comfortable with from an esthetic point of view. They did deliver but after hearing the Studio 590's I compromised on the size (thought to be a little to large for my taste).

I'm positively surprised that the horn sounds so good as it does. The base is firm and full (almost too much and I'm considering trying out the bass dampers that come with the speakers).

I matched these up with a new Yamaha RX-V2071 of 140W to allow them to deliver fullness also at low volumes.

Not needing my external my external Denon bass cube anymore.

Being in China, I totally overpaid for the JBL's (USD 2,400) which bugs me a little as they are made here. But then, I found nothing better on the market for the same price.

These are fantastic speakers. JBL has done well with this 2 1/2 way design. They extend from the low to high frequencies without any noticeable coloration. Midrange is very smooth and great bass extension that is not too overbearing. I normally do not like horn loaded speakers and avoid them them at all cost because in most cases I find that they are too harsh. I decided to purchase these upon their high recommendation. I have found the horn on these speakers to be very easy to listen to. I find you get the benefit of the high frequency extension and directivity of the horn without any of the negative effects. Of course, this can be expected from a company that is a leader in horn technology. I was concerned a little about the sensitivity being slightly lower, however they do perform well with a moderate amount of amplifier power. I have used them in both dedicated listening and home theater applications and they perform well in both cases. I have to say they really shine in the a home theater environment as you will get every detail. I have had these about 2 months now. I have done a fair amount of frequency analysis of their output and have found that they are quite flat and extend up in the 20kHz range and beyond effortlessly.

While these sound very detailed with all the bass you need, the cheap quality of the feet and grills ruined them for me. One was delivered with a broken plastic foot and grill peg. The grills are ridiculously flimsy, be very careful if you try to remove them, and follow the instructions. The feet are so cheap I could see them flexing from the weight of the speaker, and was afraid to move them. For tha price of these, they could have at least had aluminum feet, and a heavier grills. I sent mine back, I was so disgusted with the cheapness of them.

I bought a pair of 590s sight unseen and have no regrets. I feel that I'm hearing the full audio spectrum with these speakers, no frequencies are missing. Great detail in the mid and upper frequencies but not harsh, along with detailed bass that's not boomy or muddy at all.
