This review is from: JC Bach: Piano Concertos Op 13, 1-3 /Hanover Band * Halstead (Audio CD)
These concertos were written for the fashionable public in London and Paris in the mid-1770s. As such they had to be 'popular' in style. But nonetheless it takes a master of JC Bach's stature to make them stand out even amongst other 'trifles' of the period. Here are more than just glimpses of the future Mozart. The works are the foundation on which Mozart was to build his series of Viennese concertos of the 1780s. Taken on their own, they are immensely enjoyable and do not deserve their current neglect. JC Bach was a pioneer who broke with the old North German style of his father and brothers to embrace and perfect the new Italianate Galant style, in which he was unequaled and which Mozart was his successor.
