Product Description

The JDS Air-Tech 10-16 is the ultimate air cleaner for your shop. With two speeds this heavy-duty 1/3 hp motor produces a class-leading, 2,117 cfm unrestricted airflow and provides 1000 cfm and 1600 cfm of filtered air. This will clean the air in a 40 x 40 x 10 shop every 10 minutes. The filtration system will remove 99 percent of dust particles as small as five microns and 91 percent of particles as small as one micron in size. A powerful blower motor will quietly circulate and filter the air in your room. No outside venting is required and existing room temperature is not affected. The JDS Air-Tech will operate most efficiently mounted to the ceiling. If a ceiling location is not convenient, a tabletop or shelf may be used. The more elevated the location, the less the air flow will be restricted. In larger areas requiring a high volume of air filtration, multiple units can be strategically placed. Our air handling experts can assist you in solving your specific problems. Changing the filters for the JDS Air-Tech systems is quick and easy. The prefilter and the secondary bag filter both slide in and out with ease. The disposable prefilter will need to be changed more frequently, but can be replaced with an optional washable electrostatic prefilter. The electrostatic prefilter does not need to be replaced, just occasionally washed out with a mild kitchen degreaser and water from a low pressure hose. The secondary bag filter is easily accessible through an access panel door on the side of the unit, and wont need to be changed as often as the prefilter. The final diffusing filter needs no cleaning and can be replaced with the optional charcoal filter.

The woodshop that I have worked in four the past four years is a college woodshop that is large, often used by many students at once, and also has an extensive and powerful central dust collection system. Keeping in mind the difference between this shop and "home" shops, the application of the JDS Air Filter is to collect the fine dust that the central dust collection system missed. This specific application may be different from home shops but the environment is as good as any to rigorously test the JDS system.
The JDS air filtration system is large and heavy and requires at least two people to install. The mounting harware was convienent but in the case of this shop that has exposed floor joists, the eye bolts could be mounted on 16" centers so no bracing is required. If changing filters saturated with dust is an indication that this beast works, then it clearly filters the air. However, the trim that holds the first filter on the unit is a bit flimsy and has only a friction fit. I would suggest sturdier trim and a better way to attach the trim because though it has not happened yet, constant removal of the trim could wear out the fit or bend the trim. Noise is not an issue and the two speeds are nice. I will say that I have cleaned dust off the top of the unit. This, however is probably due to overworking the unit rather than it effectiveness.
All in all, a bit pricy and large but in over five years of use, none of the working parts have failed nor has any maintence been performed save the filter changing. The quality is evident.

I bought a JDS 2000 about 2005. It was in great shape, I hung itin my basement shop and it runs 24/7 unless I'm out of town. I just moved it to below my work bench as I have a lot of finish sanding. It's the best!

Top of shipping container had been removed exposing the unit & poorly taped back on with cellophane packing tape, ultimatly left flopping in the wind. One large dent in the side of the unit, corners of the unit were bent & rivet was sheered off(apparently dropped) such that the filters couldn't be removed.

Several large scratches that gouged deep into the sheet metal.

I spent over an hour straightening & reforming corners to make the thing operational!

Quality of the unit itself was acceptable, but I wouldn't pay suggested retail for it. Shipping was free & I can see why!!

Probably the last big ticket item I will purchase from mail order!

Save yourself some grief! buy locally!!

I have a fairly large work shop and use 2 of the filter systems. They work very well once I fixed the units from the damage during shipping. One of the boxes was heavily which transferred to the unit. The sheet metal was bent which required some repair. I also found that both units were either dropped or just put together haphazardly. The squirrel cages in both units not straight and rubbed on the intake. I was able to repair both units. It really pisses me off to have to repair something that was obviously packed improperly. I don't think it was the shippers fault since some of the problems were obvious manufacturing problems. Both units have been working for a few months now without any issues (after the repair). JDS should really review their packing procedures and upgrade accordingly.
