4.0 out of 5 stars The second I've bought
This works just as I need: not too complicated, not too big (but big enough for a dinner plate), and the first one was just fine so when it gave out I simply replaced it. I do wish it had a lit touchpad, but for $100 delivered to my front door, I'm very happy. FYI: the old one never stopped working, but after a few years the paint inside began cracking and exposing...

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this one like the plague!
I should have known when the demo model in the store had a sticky door that it wasn't a fluke. But the other nice features (size, wattage, price, turntable, controls) were appealing, so we bought one. How do I hate this? Let me count the ways.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this one like the plague!, August 29, 2011

I should have known when the demo model in the store had a sticky door that it wasn't a fluke. But the other nice features (size, wattage, price, turntable, controls) were appealing, so we bought one. How do I hate this? Let me count the ways.

1. The door began sticking within a few short weeks of purchase. This meant having to put down any item you wanted to place in the microwave so you could brace the appliance because it is light enough to "scoot" across the countertop from the pressure. Then, you PUSH, PUSH, PUSH, PUSH, jamming it again and again in every conceivable spot on the door opener to get it to release.
2. The control pad also requires an inordinate amount of pushing to get the selections to work.
3. Of all the microwaves we've had, the exterior of this one heats up the most.
4. In less than 5 months, the cheesy turntable mechanism began to moan and groan while it tried to turn something as simple as an 8 oz. cup of coffee. Clearly, it isn't gripping properly.

On the POSITIVE side, let me say that GE Customer Service has been very obliging, even sending out repair people to our house the first and second time (I think it's their error, but who am I to question?) since I've had to call again. OF COURSE, the first time, the door problem was just beginning to happen, and it behaved much better when the guy was here. Now, it's consistently terrible. Maybe GE needs to spend as much on engineering as it does on customer service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk, October 7, 2010

We purchased this microwave brand new from a major retailer simply to heat water for tea, heat canned soup, and cook instant oatmeal. We just needed a simple microwave that wouldn't take up a ton of space on the counter. Also, we've always thought of GE as a quality company. Being smaller is the ONLY good thing I can say. After using this microwave for 30 days, give or take, it stopped heating. That's right, 30 DAYS. I didn't even get the "PF" power failure message that other people online have described. It turns on and seems to be working, but it is not heating at all. Spend the money, get a higher end microwave. This one is a piece of junk.

We purchased this unit less than one year ago. Price, coupled with the brand name, were the main points considered. As far as functionality goes, it has been reliable. However, the inside surface coating is coming off - mostly along the bottom near the oven door. We have had numerous countertop microwave ovens over the years, and have never had this problem. Anyway, into the junk pile it went.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible..worst GE appliance I've owned, January 17, 2012
This review is from: GE JES1139BL 1.1 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven - Black
First, I have all GE appliances in my home and have long trusted them. This microwave breaks that trust. The door sticks to the point that you have to push the button and pull the door to get it open, the cheap plastic push buttons look awful (crinkled) and hard to push, the paint inside is flaking and peeling off and the turntable jerks and rocks and makes horrible noise. We have had it about 8 months and it is garbage!

FYI: the old one never stopped working, but after a few years the paint inside began cracking and exposing metal. The unit still worked, but after a few months I decided not to wait for it to break down completely. I was very happy to see I could just click a button and get a new one, and never even have to read the manual.
