4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money
This is a quality hybrid saw. The setup is straight forward and relatively simple although it does take two people because of the weight. Once setup, the saw required just a little adjustment for proper parallelism and accuracy of the blade and the fence.

Cuts are smooth and the saw has plenty of power for the home woodworker.

The saw arrived undamaged from shipping. Set up took about 3 hours by myself and was simple enough. The steel wings are a little flimsy and difficult to align perfectly with the cast iron table. Started the saw up on a 110V 20amp dedicated circuit which is above the required level for the motor. The blade would spin about one inch and the motor would hum. Calling...

2.0 out of 5 stars Broken start capacitor, September 19, 2010
This review is from: JET 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Tablesaw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip Fence with Steel Wings (Tools & Home Improvement)
Calling technical service was easy, but I got the runaround from three different people.

1st guy: Told me the saw needed 40 amps which is wrong since it says 15 amps in the manual and on the Jet website. My hopes weren't high at this point that anything else this guy told me was going to be accurate. He had me take off fan to look at the centrifugal switch. I did this and called back 5 minutes later...
2nd guy: I got the fan off and could not see the centrifugal switch. The technical support guy told me that there was a plate to remove to access this switch. There was no plate. He argued with me that there was a plate to remove. He got testy. Finally he put me on hold and came back 5 minutes later and said that I was right and that the newer models did not have the plate he so urgently wanted me to remove. He told me the problem was definitely the centrifugal switch even though I was not able to actually access it to check it. He gave me the phone number of a service guy 40 miles away and told me to remove the motor and drive, make an appointment with the service guy and get the motor serviced. I said this wasn't acceptable to me and that they needed to send out a service guy to fix my brand new defective saw which never worked. He told me that this could not be done so I tried getting another tech guy.
3rd guy: Told me the saw had a bad starter capacitor and that he would send me one in the mail.

Now I am waiting for this part to arrive. When it arrives I will finish the review. I think the saw will probably work well once it is going. Basically I have a problem with the attitude of several of the tech guys. They seemed impatient, testy, and didn't seem to know what they were talking about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Saw but still needs work, February 27, 2008
This review is from: JET 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Tablesaw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip Fence with Steel Wings (Tools & Home Improvement)
woodworking is what gets my mind off large complex computer systems. I have gone thru 3 saws. I could not have a bigger more professional saw becasue of space limitation so I settled for this after careful reviews.

These ehancement will make it a great saw for its price.

1 - The Dust collection is poor.
2 - The dust and service door does not have hinge. 4 screws must beremoved to get access to inside of the saw
3 - Legs Have hole in them which will reduce the dust collection effectiveness.
4 - The rubber shoes should be self leveling.
5 - No riving knife. too bad because jet will not have solution for current customers. By next year they have to have one. I am considering MicroJig splitter
6- The power cord could be a bit longer
7 - the insert should have been standard like other jet saws. it is unusual thickness.
8- The miter gauge is too cheap. I am going to replace it with a kreg miter gauge.

Everything else on this saw is first class. All the essentials are among the best. The motor, fence, cast iron top, rails. Hope jet will address these short comings.I will recommend this saw
to anyone. Don't waste money on other saws. you will not find anything better out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good saw, not perfect, buy local if possible, Amazon too slow, February 12, 2008

This review is from: JET 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Tablesaw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip Fence with Steel Wings (Tools & Home Improvement)
I love the saw, coming from a benchtop crafsman how couldn't I. But the legs are a little weak for what I was expecting. And the dust collection is a little weak. Dust always leaks out the bottom 4 corners which have huge openings in them, even with my 1250CFM JDS dust collector pulling hard. But other wise it is perfect. Wish I had bought the cast iron instead of steel, they also seem a little flimsy, but they work fine. The fence is nice, saw is pretty quiet and has very solid features.

I'm not sure why it took Amazon almost 3 weeks to deliver the saw. In the meantime when I inquired about the delivery they were not helpful at all and just a little rude about the whole thing. I think the tool customer service is separate from their regular CS because I have never been treated bad before like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great saw with a few minor detractions, October 4, 2008
This review is from: JET 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Tablesaw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip Fence with Steel Wings (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought the 480K saw with steel wings almost a year ago, couldn't get a firm delivery date on cast iron version at the time. Purchased the cast iron wings directly from Jet for a couple of hundred $ more. The manual with the 480K covers install of the cast iron wings, too.

Minor detractions - dust collection ain't great. I had to get a small tap to clear out the threads in the cabinet body that accept the hold down bolts for the dust collection door, the bolt insertion/removal worked fine after that. I find myself vacuuming the cabinet out after each project, again, dust removal weakest point with the saw. The steel wings were difficult to keep from bowing up, or cupping. With the cast iron wings, no problem. Making zero clearance inserts is a bit tricky as the blade retracts just slightly below the plane of the table. I used two pieces of 1/8 inch fiberboard glued rough-rough side to allow two very smooth outer surfaces for the zero clearance insert, then routed the edges to get the insert level flush with the table.

Pluses - great fence, smooth gliding, very easy to set and keep true; Lots of power, no issue cutting thick stock; quiet; works well on the JET mobile base; fairly true out of the box, easy to true up, good manual.

A great step up from my prior 20 year old craftsman contractor saw, for sure.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting a high quality 110v saw for serious hobby work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great saw!, December 22, 2008
This review is from: JET 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Tablesaw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip Fence with Steel Wings (Tools & Home Improvement)
I upgraded from a Craftsman 10" contractor saw to the Jet Hybrid saw and wow what a difference. The Jet saw is quiet and has little to no noticeable vibration. Dust collection is not great but sufficient. I taped up the corners inside the cabinet so that chips wouldn't fall through the corners and that seemed to slightly improve the dust collection. The saw was easy to assemble and all adjustments were easy to make (square up the miter slot to the blade and square up the fence to table and blade). The table saw feels solid and cuts very smooth and accurate. The saw has plenty of power and was able to rip through 8/4 birch and walnut easily and also cut through 3/4" oak without a problem.

The fence is very accurate and easy to set. I do wish Jet would have used slightly thicker steel tubing for the fence rails as they do slightly flex when you tighten down the fence.

I would certainly recommend this saw to anyone looking for an upgrade but not wanting to buy a full sized cabinet saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars toolguy68, October 17, 2011
This review is from: JET 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Tablesaw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip Fence with Steel Wings (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought the 52" right and left cast iron wing version from another source. But I thought I would throw in my 2cents here as most folks are likely to check on amazon toward the beginning of there search when shopping for this type of tool.
I have to say my search lead me far and wide across the vastness of the internet and it's many sources. I discovered that I was not alone in this quest. I read as many reviews as I could, compared stats across the full spectrum of table saw types, and went out to brick and mortar stores to look at them first hand. It's not for the joy of getting a good deal that I did this, though that is nice, it was for the fact that what ever table saw I would get, it would have to last me.
As always at the end of the day it's about time. So save yourself some time. I found no better bargain when it came down to it. Sure you could spend a few more bucks and get a full on cabinet saw, or spend a few less and get a portable job sight saw. You could get a different brand of Hybrid to I suppose, if that saved you money. However, at the end of your search I don't think you will find a better more fully realized example of the Hybrid form for the price.
All the other reviews will spell out the benefits and pit falls of this saw, so I will not bore you by repeating them. I will say this, I love the fence and the arbor lock. The motor can take anything I have thrown at it. Dust collection issues are the fault of the dust collector your using, not the saw. I have seen and used worse on high end cabinet saws.
At the end of the day you have to be comfortable with what you buy, on function as well as price. You might, as I did, start wondering if all the time and effort you put into the search will be worth it. I know it stopped being fun for me as the months rolled by. Take hart, for you may have found the saw that will work best for you. In the Hybrid category you could do a lot worse on both price and performance. It is also worth pointing out that there are many useful accessory available. Jet makes one of the best Tenoing jigs, and there are mobile bases, as well as zero clearance inserts. When it comes to this most critical of all tool buying decisions no one review is going to sway you, and it shouldn't, but if you do go with the Jet ProShop I think most will be very pleased they did. Remember, any tool can be dangerous, table saws especially, all ways take every precaution when operating your saw. Make sure to read and understand the operation manuals for all your tools, and never forget your safety glasses. Now go make some saw dust.
