These jaws are designed to grip in the contraction mode. The step sizes provide optimum gripping for 3 bowl foot sizes. They will grip from 1-5/8" to 1/4" diameters. Expanding dovetail jaws fit a recess of 3" to 4" diameters to hold up to 12" diameter bowls.

Chuck Jaws are GREAT,

Yes, when you buy this item, you get only the black jaws, and not the silver chuck. But that's just what the item description says. The step jaws are the standard Technatool Nova Chuck step jaws, solid steel, and at a killer price. If you've already got the chuck, adding these jaws lets you do bigger faceplate turning than with the standard jaws that come with the chuck. Personally, I'm thrilled. See mikeswoodwork.net for some of the stuff I've made with the chuck and jaws.

You don't get what is in the picture only 4 jaws. The jaws are worthless without the rest of it. Tried to get the rest of it but no luck.
