This light has been in my backpack for the past month and I've used it almost every day.

Only negative is I wish it had a screw in pocket clip, instead of the snap on ring, other than that it's a great vaule.
Rick
I use it when I walk my dogs and the blinding light has discouraged aggressive dogs from approaching us.

I've been using a BA10 for five months and it has performed well. I carry it on me almost everyday and usually regret it when I don't have it close by.

I like that it has only two modes, low and high. 160 lumens is good outdoors and also during the day when you need to look somewhere dark but your pupils are contracted. Low is good indoors at night or up close.

The clip is not reversible without modification, and I initially did not like its orientation (you can't deep pocket carry it), but now I prefer it because it can clip on the brim of a cap to use as a caplight. It clips very neatly on the Leatherman belt sheath that I have (I think it's the premium nylon sheath).

It can tailstand, but it wobbles a bit.

The only other experience I have had with this type of light is the Fenix LD20. The LD20 is more expensive, has more modes, and seems to have better build quality.

After five months, some of the anodizing is wearing off. I don't have long-term experience with other lights so I don't know if this is good or bad. It seems like normal wear and tear to me so it doesn't bother me.

I will probably buy another Jet Beam, either this one or the BA20.

I figured this light would be the ideal Fathers Day gift for my dad, because he previously had been borrowing my JETBeam (Jet-1 pro V3.0)whenever he needed a decent, reliable flashlight. I like my Jetbeam a lot, so decided to get him something similar from the same brand, albeit with a simpler design and fewer features. This BA10 appeared to be the perfect balance of price, performance, and features, so I went for it and we're both very pleased. With the same type of battery (rechargeable), his BA10 is more powerful on "high" than my Jet-1 Pro at the same setting. That's significant because the latter was twice the price when I got it through Amazon back in October of 2010. JETBeam has apparently introduced a new series of products since then, and they appear to be squeezing even more light power out of the same battery types, while maintaining or reducing physical size. In addition, by changing the interface of various lights, they were able to make less expensive models that equal or surpass the performance of the higher-end models of the previous series. The BA10 product description claims that on high mode its output is 160 lumens. I don't have the means to test that scientifically, but as previously mentioned it is definitely brighter than my Jet-1 Pro on high, though they both run off of one AA and are about the same size (the BA10 is a smidge shorter). The BA10 beam is warmer in color and it has an orange-peel type reflector that gives it greater spill than throw, with less of a center hot spot (the Jet-1 Pro is a smooth polished reflector). The circle of light it creates is very wide in diameter and exhibits no artifacts - I was pretty impressed with the beam. What I don't like as much about the BA10 compared to the Jet-1 Pro, is the tail-switch cap shape and the interface.Read more ›

The points that were key to this purchase for me - presence of momentary on, a High and a lower mode, a "forward clicky" switch - which typically allow "momentary on", the ability to tail stand, a pocket clip, type 3 anodization, and the use of AA batteries. I also saw videos of torture tests done - dropping from at ~ 12 feet high, boiling for a few minutes, setting on fire with lighter fluid and hammering. Google it if you are interested.

I will mention some particular quirks about this light you would not find in specifications - only my opinions of course.

Output - I was concerned about the utility of the low setting. But it's very useful -about as bright as you'd want it to be for working close up on things at 1 foot or less while still being comfortable. Low mode seems to be plenty of light in the dark indoors if you're on familiar ground. High mode is plenty for across a house at night and the area within the hotspot seems as if I've tipped a 120 watt floor lamp over on it's side from where I stand. BA-10's low mode is brighter than Mini Maglite AA LED's on low mode, and dimmer than Mini-Mag AA LED high mode. BA-10's high mode is definitely brighter than a Mini Maglite AA LED on high mode.

Clip - the one thing I wish I had known about the pocket clip is that it is not designed to be reversible (see UPDATE! EASY FIX). It looks as though it might be but if the clip is detached at moved to the area adjacent to the tail cap, the gap is too narrow and the tail cap will not be able to screw down all the way. This leaves the light in "lock out mode" and is inoperable. However the clip works well in it's current position. The clip serves as the only anti-roll device.

This flashlight is nice for the price. Comparison between this and the ThruNite Archer1A:

JETBeam BA10

Pros: simple operation, one twist from high beam to low beam. Reversed clip so you can clip it to your hat for hands-free use, slightly shorter than the Archer 1A

Cons: Clip detaches from the flashlight too easily, and ends up on the ground . Clicky button feels thin and cheap

Thrunight Archer 1A

Pros: can use AA battery or rechargeable Lithium battery. feels higher quality than the jetbeam. slightly smaller diameter than the jet beam, much brighter than the jetbeam if using rechargeable lithium battery.

Cons: pocket clip is weak and flashlight has come out of my pocket a few times. You have to cycle through the 4 intensity settings by twisting the headlamp back and forth to find the setting you want. It has a "strobe" mode.
