Lithium or rcr 123 lithium. Also uses AA or cr 123 but not
As bright with these. This light does not come with the SMO
(smooth) Reflector as written in the description. It comes with
The OP (orange peel) reflector. I wanted the SMO and then found
Out I couldn't buy the reflector only. I gave the light 4 stars because
It is a very high quality light but amazon and the seller should get
The description right. I ordered another light from [...]
And got the light I wanted at the same price and was able to speak
With someone who was much more knowledgeable. They shipped it
Free and I got it in 2 days. Very happy with the light but not happy
With the seller and amazon getting the description wrong.
This RRT-O (S2) version which I got recently has been updated from the original R2 & R5 versions. The selector ring used to have "detends" with set brightness levels. With this one, they updated it to feature infinite ramping capabilities. The transition from low to high is now a smooth process. At the low-end of the ring there's a "stop"...and just past that, is the "strobe mode". Then if the ring is turned up & down quickly 3 times...it goes into SOS mode. Uses a lithium CR123 or rechargeable 16340 cell. But with the extender tube, either standard AA's (or NiMH) or a rechargeable 14500 li-ion cell can be used. Note that it'll be brighter with the lithium cell as opposed to the AA or NiMH. In any event it's mighty bright, and the beam-distance capability is excellent for a light of this size.
The only problem is that many of these RRT-O's have a "flickering" issue. This is where the beam will lightly (and intermittantly) flicker when generally set at the mid to lower levels of brightness. Mine does it... and is the reason for the 3 stars. I could send it back, but I'm afraid a replacement might do the same thing, and it's really not bad enough (fingers crossed) that it gets in the way too much. Many people have received a "flickering" light... and many haven't. It's a crap shoot. But you may get lucky!
