Abraham Z. Idelsohn (1882-1938) was one of the great collectors and historians of Jewish music, and at the time of this publication was Professor of Jewish Music and Liturgy at Hebrew Union College. As per the preface, "This volume includes a complete service for the entire cycle of the Jewish religious year, based mainly on Jewish traditional religious folksong," designed to enable the entire congregation (Reform or Conservative) to participate.
It is also noted that, "There is here presented for the first time in America, a complete music service for the Three Festivals." In most cases tradtional material was used, in others, rearranged, as well as some original compositions by the author. Music and words both in English and Latin alphabetized Hebrew for 155 songs.
