I received this item in a box with nothing but the speaker inside. No padding at all. Upon inspection I realized that it is not even the correct item. Instead of a JL AUDIO 12W3V3 that I ordered, I received the previous model the 12W3V2. Further more the condition was not to my liking either. It was a terrible buy!

How do you know when you have a good subwoofer? When you replace a bad one and the new one really comes alive.

I bought this based on reviews all over the place after rushing into my first sub that was a shallow sub and was basically silent most of the time. It did not do the job it was intended to do.
This JL 12W3 does do the job. It takes up more room for certain, and with a prefab vented enclosure takes up about a fourth of my small SUV's cargo area, but I have learned that you really need the volume to get really good bass. This one delivers.
I put it in a 1.7 cuft. ported pre-fab subwoofer box and it sounds awesome. I did line the sub box inner walls with layers of polyfill sheets (purchased from a fabric store as crib cushion fill). This cut down on unwanted higher frequency reflections exiting the port. The result is deep rich bass without the boomy peakiness of most ported enclosures.

Highly recommended as your subwoofer solution.

i only have JL in one of my cars. i could have gone the route to get a 15" L5 but i was looking for accurate smooth bass. WOW! is all i can say, it sounds amazing, JL has done it again, this bad boy is loud 141db loud in a sealed box. i know that JL is pricey, however, its worth every penny!

this is a great product on most sites expect paying up to 300 dollars amazon is the place to buy this was a greg product this is JL audio top of the line system not that rattling piece of crap that most get at the flea market you can depend on these and the technology in these is incredible smooth and it hits hard i would recommend this product i have had over 4 other JL audio systems and 2 of them were over 8 years old and still works

I was ordering some 6x9's and 6 1/2" speakers for my car, and since I live in Canada, and things are half price in the USA, I figured that I should order a sub to make a modest, well rounded stereo system. This sub surpassed my expectations. I'm impressed.

I've owned two JL 12W4-D2's about 10 years ago, and this sub pounds almost as much as both of them did put together. I made a sealed box exactly to spec (from JL's website) using 3/4" MDF, screws every 3 inches, and sillicone to seal it. I am very pleased with the bass.

It has good accuracy and dynamic range. I set the LPF at around 100Hz. It has great punch for songs that are recorded that way. It shines when playing songs with low rumbles and chest vibrating frequencies. Two of these would be sick, but then I wouldn't have much room for the golf clubs, and would need another amp.

The sub looks classy. No high-school style bright red glossy colours with flames. JL's upholding their rep.

I like the spring loaded speaker terminals. I'm running it off of a Rockford Fosgate Prime r500-1 amp. I have the gain set at 9 out of 11 and the punch control set at about 3/4 of the way up. Perfect combination of amp and sub. It's a bonus to have that control right at my fingertips.

I just listened to someone who had 2 MTX 10" Jackhammer subs, with cap's and the works, and there is no comparison. Sorry dude. :) Your window will be fine lol.

One of these subs is more than enough for my goal of having a cheap 'modest' system under $1000, but I have a feeling that I'll be craving more soon, and I will b-line straight for more, or bigger JL subs when the time comes!

Excellent sub. Big upgrade from the w1. If you're looking for sound quality don't waste your money on other brands.
