Product Description

Creating great sounding bass is not that difficult when the available space in the vehicle is generous and you use high quality drivers. When space is limited (like in stealthy custom installations or behind the seats of a truck or sports car), achieving excellent low frequency performance becomes far more challenging. One way to deal with this is to use small subwoofer drivers, like our 6.5-inch or 8-inch models, but if the goal is higher output bass than the small drivers can comfortably deliver, a more potent solution is needed. This is precisely where the new TW5 subwoofers slot into the lineup, offering groundbreaking performance in the tightest space applications. The patented thin-line woofer technology compresses the architecture of the woofer to make it all happen. Central to the technology is the "concentric tube" structure that supports the oversized voice coil and the suspension attachments. This permits placing the motor of the woofer much further forward in the speaker than with conventional designs, while maintaining excellent linear excursion capability. Equally important is the fact that the TW5 designs are optimized for extremely small box volume applications. Whereas a typical "small-box" 12-inch driver operates in well over one cubic foot, the 12TW5 needs only 0.63 cubic feet to achieve optimum in-car performance, while the larger 13TW5 is optimum in only 0.80 cu.ft. (significantly less volume than any other JL Audio 13.5-inch woofer). To counteract the efficiency tradeoff of small box volumes, the TW5´s are designed to handle very high power levels thanks to the use of very large voice coils (7-inch and 5.5-inch diameter). So, if you´re looking for premium subwoofer performance in the tightest spaces, you have not only found the shallowest automotive subwoofers on the market, but also the most capable. American ingenuity is alive and well.

First of I will say this sub is nothing short of pure awesomeness! It doesn't sound like a 12 nor does it sound like a 13" sub, it sounds like 2 sealed compound 10's. Its wicked tight and kicks the crap out of you using a 500watt JL amp. I am blown away how loud this sub can get! I am talking loud up to the threshold of pain inside a small car. Now it doesn't play ultra low but it will still play low but that tight kick you feel in the chest more than makes up for it. There is no equal anywhere on the planet. Match it with a GOOD 500 watt amp and a well build .8 cu ft box (make sure the box is sealed as this is critical as the slightest air leak will rob you output and sound quality. I had to brace and re caulk my box to get the best results.)

This is my 4th sub from JL Audio. I have owned 10w7s, 12w7s, and 10w3s. This is by far the best spending sub of all of them and I was able to fit this under my floor in my CR-V. If you want amazing sound quality and volume in tight spaces get this sub.

I had this sub mounted in a box built under the rear seat in my 2011 F350 CC powered by a 500 watt amp by Rockford Fosgate.....Did not realize what I was missing until this was installed....not a big bass guy....but you not only can hear the difference,,,you can feel it. This completes the audio system upgrade,,,matched with two sets of JL Audio C3's and an 800 watt amp....with the factory head unit, sounds better than I could have hoped for

Overpriced! I currently have a JL Audio 8W3v3-4 which sounds great, but being an audiophile and a bass lover, thought I would try an upgrade. Mistake. This speaker does sound good, but is way overpriced, and didn't sound any better than, or have more output than the 8" sub I already have. $150 vs. $420 . I guess they charge a lot for the super shallow mounting, or the 8W3v3 is a great value. Disappointed.
