A couple of storylines here, and they are only average. Wonder Woman has to cope with a philosophical paradox when she is caught in a sticky situation with her lasso.

Plastic Man goes back to family, when he looks into what his occasionally seen son is up to, along with a bit of help from his friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Joe Kelly takes over the JLA, November 2, 2003
This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
This collection marks the arrival of a new creative team to handle the JLA, Joe Kelly (writer) w. Mahnke and Nguyen providing the art. In my opinion they do a pretty decent job of filling the rather large shoes of previous writers such as Grant Morrison and Mark Waid. The first story shows the JLA saving the world in a two minute warning. In this story I really enjoyed the diplay of personality of every JLA members before they were called in, i.e. Green Lantern no having enough money to buy a frappachino, then Superman leaving Lois, Batman training w/ Wonder Woman while trying to solve three other cases at the same time. The next story is the Golden Perfect which centers around the breaking of Wonder Woman's lasso and the subsequent alteration of all facets of reality...okay so, it's a little farfetched but still enjoyable. The final and the best story in my opinion is the "Dark Nut Strikes Again". It is a "team-up" (if you can call it that) between Plastic Man and Batman. We find out about the rather tumultuous civil life of plastic man where he has abandoned his son, who has joined up w/ a gang. The boy also has inherited his father's pliable powers. Anyways, Batman scares the boy straight out of the gangsta wanna-be phase. In the story, Batman even comments on how he thought Plastic Man would have made the best father becuse he would always keep his kids laughing. It is really a great story. In my opinion as a JLA reader from the very beginning, Joe Kelly writes the best plastic man. I highly recommend this trade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, June 9, 2003

When a child is stolen from under the Amazons' protection, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League of America (Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Plastic Man, and the Atom) set out to reunite the child and his mother. Finding that the boy is heir to an ancient, hidden civilization, Wonder Woman uses her lasso (the Golden Perfect) to discover the truth. But when the lasso breaks, truth and order become uncertain throughout the whole universe. And now it is up to Wonder Woman to fix the Golden Perfect and the JLA to fix the universe.

As an added bonus, two other stories bracket Golden Perfect: Two Minute Warning, which gives the JLA two minutes to save the world; and Bouncing Baby Boy, in which the improbable duo of Bat Man and Plastic Man must work to save a boy from a life of crime.

This was a really good graphic novel. The graphics were short of excellence, but the story was fantastic! While Flash and the Atom were somewhat minor characters, Plastic Man was used to his absolutely funniest best. It's been a while since I've seen Plastic Man so well represented! My nine-year-old son and I both loved this book, and highly recommend it to you!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read, August 9, 2006
By
This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
Wonder Woman has always been a great character, but it always kinda bugged me the whole "lasso of truth" thing. After reading this, I found a new appreacation for her and her golden perfect lasso. Basically, some Amazons come to the aid of a woman whoes child has been "kidnapped". Wonder Woman and the JLA go to a small, xenophobic country and finds the child in question to be a "Buddah" type. When the lasso is used on the magican-dictator of said country, it reveals he's teling the truth and the child must remain in the country and not with his mother. But WW refuses to believe it and the lasso breaks. Then, pretty much, all hell breaks loose as reality becomes "subjective".

I really dug how the JLA changed due to "public opinion" (especially Batman).

I got it from the library, but I am going to add this to the collection, it was an enjoyable enough read.

5.0 out of 5 stars JLA: Golden Perfect, May 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
I LOVE JOE KELLY/DOUG MAHNKE JLA RUN!!!!!!!.

First think I read from them was The Obsidian Age, and instantly became one of my top books ever. I doubt in getting this one because I thought it was too small. Maybe wasn't worthy. Man, I was wrong!!.

What a great read!. Joe Kelly have the ability of putting the players in situations that makes them think. Problems were they need to actually plan instead of throwing a few punches and win. Plus... Kelly CAN write Plastic man. The dialogs are so rich. You can finally sense that these are people that have work together for a long time. They talk, they joke, they argue and never get out of character. Brilliant!!!.

Add what I mentioned above the art. I love Doug Mahnke's art. This first book is were he's just starting. I admit the art in this book is not as magnificent as in other books (Final Crisis, Blackest Night) but still have that little flavor of what's coming. The way he draw combined with Kelly's (right to the point) dialog makes it a powerful partnership.

Because of this and more I definably recommend this book. Because I love it so much now I got the whole JLA books from them: Golden Perfect, Obsidian Age Vol. 1 and 2, Rules of Engagement, Trial by Fire and Justice League Elite Vol. 1 and 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not the stongest JLA trade., November 17, 2009
This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
Kind of short for a trade at only 5 issues. The 3 issue arc in the middle Golden Perfect is a good read if you can suspend your disbelief a bit. It was nice to see a strong story with Wonder Woman as the central character. If you haven't read Tower or Babel, Rock of Ages or New World order (JLA #1, 4, and 7, I believe) I would go with them instead. But this one won't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonder Woman front and center!, January 16, 2007
This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
These were originally published as JLA #61 - #65.

Wonder Woman is usually an ensemble character at best in the JLA series. But, in this first storyline written after Mark Waid's steady hand (written by Joe Kelly), Diana, Princess of the Amazons, takes center stage. A child is kidnapped in a strange land, and Diana, always seeking the truth, comes to a paradox, where there are multiple truths, and her precious Lasso of Truth, the Sacred Rope of Hestia, is "torn asunder" by Diana pursuit of her only belief of what is right. And it breaks the very foundations of truth for the rest of the world and humanity. Wonder Woman must go on a quest to rebuild it, as the other members of the JLA battle events brought down by the distruction of quantum mechanical laws (yes, you read correctly. pg76 Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, explained by the Atom in a JLA graphic novel!).

An excellent story, as Wonder Woman discovers that there can be many truths, showing the frailties and strengths of one of the core members of the league.

Fav panels: pg 102, Wonder Woman with her lasso (of course), and the opposing page of Batman on top of Plastic Man making like a gargoyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great portrayal of Wonder Woman, January 3, 2005

The writer and artist both gave a superb representation of the Amazon Princess and this story did a great job presenting her as the focal point. Also, the Batman/Plastic Man team-up (harkening back to the Brave and the Bold days) gave me a new appreciation for a character I was determined to hate.

5.0 out of 5 stars another perfect team, July 21, 2003

This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
joe kelly and dough mahnke makes a perfect combination, just like morrison and quitely,or ennis and dillon,or loeb and sale,
mills and bisley,jodorowsky&moebius.
and while i think morrison is very good,i prefer the way kelly writes jla.morrison is better suited for x-men.
the story is fun,the characters well described and used.
there's an exchange between bats and ww that are fantastic.or plastic man trying to get a peek at ww in her chambers.
but the best of it is mahnke's artwork.superior to any of the artist who accompanied morrison on the jla.he's just getting better and better, since his days drawing the mask, and the classic mask versus lobo.he draws plastic man quite a bit like mask sometimes, the wildest i've seen him.
at the end there's a separate short story about bats and plastic man that is just pure poetry.really excellent.
after having read this,i'm certainly getting "the obsidian age" too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes sense, June 17, 2004
This review is from: JLA: Golden Perfect (Book 10) (Paperback)
....Let me just start off by stating that I do not know the writers. I mean, at all. I read these books strictly because I like the JLA. I've read the previous books, but after "World War III" I was really skeptical about buying the rest. WWIII made no sense 2 me. But "Golden Perfect" {aside from the title} was pretty good. Focused alot on Wonder Woman, which isn't usually the case. It caused me 2 realize that her whip is more important than I once thought. Aside from that, Batman and Plastic - man have a duo story. ...Its as expected, u get 2 see the silliest and the most serious work together. Its ok. I really don't know what else 2 say. The book is good, but nothing special. But it does make sense ... thats really all I ask.
