Again, handle and cover very poorly designed.

In our opinion, more than enough for your "everyday" sewing machine.

I'm very new to sewing, and this machine was relatively easy to use.

I am a beginner - the last time I sewed was in home economics class more than 20 years ago - yet this machine is extremely easy to use. The machine itself has good illustrations embossed on it, which direction the thread goes, that kind of important stuff. No need to pull the manual out all the time. This machine is much, much easier than I remember machine sewing being. Nothing jams. The materials and build are not flimsy and cheap and plasticky the way the lower end Brothers and Singer machines are. I was scared to buy this model because of the dearth of online reviews. However, this purchase has been an example of when the brand speaks for itself, Juki being the sewing machine brand used by every tailor shop around me. They did not skimp on quality on this model, though its price point suggests it's intended for residential, non commercial use.

I heard good things about the Juki brand (they mostly make industrial machines) before purchasing, but was hesitant to buy a lower end model because of the shortage of online reviews. So far, it's been a great little machine. I've made dresses, car seat covers, and baby carriers and it has handled them all nicely. It does pause just a bit over my heaviest layers (which have been 8+ layers, mind you) but as long as I slow down a bit it has been a champ. I would go for a more expensive model if planning a lot of very heavy sewing. The manual is fantastic-I think it would be great for beginning sewers because it tells you which stitches to use for each purpose. Not fussy about tension, winds a great bobbin, and well-engineered and well-marked for easy use.

I have been ordering from Amazon for many years - starting back when it was "just books", and I'm so impressed with this machine that I'm taking the time and effort to write a review, which is something I've never bothered to do before.

I have a seven year old Kenmore 385 that has been a very reliable workhorse, but is starting to show its age and the use I put it through (costume design), and purchased a Singer Curvy 8763 from a local sewing supply store about six months ago. The Singer was heavenly for about a week, then became temperamental and would stop in the middle of a simple, straightline stitch with high quality thread and regular quilting weight fabric for now apparent reason, complete with a high pitched beep alarm and every light on the stitch selection panel flashing. Even after opening the machine up according to the manual and cleaning every nook and cranny and making sure there were no loose or broken parts, thread jams or other problems that someone with quite a bit of sewing machine usage experience but no specialized technical or mechanical repair training would be able to identify or fix, I was unable to get the machine to come out of the lights flashing, beeping, refusing to move condition, and even though my husband insisted on sending it out for repair, I haven't taken it back off the shelf since it came back, opting instead to stick with my old, noisy but reliable Kenmore.

But a couple of weeks ago, I was idly browsing Amazon and came across this Juki machine and somewhat impulsively ordered it. I can't describe how happy I am that I did!

I just purchased this machine to replace my old Singer. I make purses for a living and have wanted a Juki forever! I had been looking at the industrial machines when my Singer decided to die on me, I came across this machine and thought hmm I don't think this thing will hold up to all the sewing I do or the material I use, I WAS WRONG! This is an awesome little machine! I log in 10-14 hour days sewing everything from cotton, silk, taffeta, leather and vinyl. I have been using this machine for 2 days now and I have put it through some thickness tests! After you reach the thickness of your needle you will have trouble =) but that's a no brain-er lol I am very pleased with this machine and would recommend this to anyone from beginner to expert.

The feature of the needle threader will for sure take a few tries to get the hang of but OMG I do not have to wear my glasses to thread the needle! I would all so say that the power cord for the machine falls short, they should have made it about 6"-12" longer. This machine runs SO much more quieter then my old Singer lol I swear my old machine sounded like an airplane was landing in the room =) And this little machine does not jump on the table!

When I researched my purchase of a new sewing machine I read all the reviews carefully. Overall I am satisfied with this machine but I am a bit surprised as well. This machine has an automatic bobbin winder. As with all machines I have used in the past I have to guide the thread with my finger to wind the bobbin evenly. I expected that with a new machine I would not have to do this. I am also surprised at how loud it is when I am using it. This is not a machine you could use if noise is a factor for other people. It took quite a while to adjust the tension settings so that I could use a plain stitch. I expect to have to make adjustments, but this took a lot of time to get it right. The cover it comes with is really poorly designed. Although there is an opening at the top to reach through for the handle on the machine you cannot pull the handle up through it. You have to have the handle in it's upright position before placing the cover over the machine. The cover does not lock in place, it just sits over the machine. Again, handle and cover very poorly designed.

For the price I paid I am happy with this machine.

The vendor customer service is absolutely fantastic. I made this purchase before leaving the country for a week. I called to see when this order would arrive so I could determine if I needed to have someone available to receive it. They assured me I would have it before I left and I did. Very quick shipping. Everything arrived in great shape.
