The best swing CD out there,
By
This review is from: JUMP (Audio CD)
Strong words, but I stick to them. Casey MacGill's CD is the best swing CD out there, especially if you're looking for original hi-fi tunes! Contrary to what other reviewers have written, Casey wrote 7 out of the 10 songs himself; they aren't all covers. But they are so awesome, that the first time you hear them you will swear you've heard them a thousand times. Ironically, you can listen and dance to every song on this CD a thousand times and never get tired of them, they are that good. With Casey's sexy voice (several women I know have said so), amazing vocals, original lyrics, and energetic style, this is a must-have for any swing dancer, Lindyhopper, or big band enthusiast.

Casey MacGill's Jump, is one of my faves!,

Casey MacGill's CD, JUMP is so listenable that I keep it loaded in my player at all times. I defy any woman not to fall in love with the voice of Marc Sorger on the ballad, "Love Ain't Nothin But the Blues". If you really want to get your heart pumping, get-a-load of "Jump Up"! This CD has seven original tunes written by Casey MacGill and they hold their own next to the three covers. This band is going to the top!

I have to admit that the first time I went to see this band my expections were low. But they blew me away! When the CD came out I couldn't stop listening to it. Having heard it hundreds of times already, I still love it. The original songs are so catchy you'd think they are already swing standards. The vocals are great and all the songs are great to dance to. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Casey MacGill & the Spirits of Rhythm come through Portland frequently and I try to catch them everytime. They're probably one of my favorite 2 swing bands to dance to, and this CD is a good example of their work. I'm just happy you can now get it somewhere other than just at their shows.

DANCERS DELIGHT GUARANTEED,

The first time I played this CD, I didn't expect what I heard. An obscure band playing dated material...NOT! As a former musician not loyal to any kind of music, I could not believe my ears. This group of songs is not only pleasant to listen to, but I dare you to try to keep your body still. You don't have to be an audiophile a musician or a dancer to appreciate the energy of this collection. And whatever you do do not play this CD while driving, You will get a speeding ticket. Any music that allows the listener to close the eyes and feel presence of real swing, with outstanding instrumental solos, vocal excellence and pure artistry, is hard to find. "Jump" is a selection penned by Casey MacGill that will emty every seat in the auditorium. A selection called "Love ain't nothin but the Blues" is a replica of a bygone era. The vocal is haunting and pure blues. "Whaddya Want" is a tune that will bring a smile to your lips and remind those baby boomers that weren't alive to see the 30's and 40's that an era of music did exist before the 50's and Elvis. What an era this had to be. Miss Lee Lee who sings this dynamite arrangement is authentic down to the last atom of voice! $15 for this CD is a cheap price to pay for a CD that you are going to wear out. Better buy two.

I've been a fan of swing and Big Band for many years and I bought this CD on the recommendations only. I did not regret it.It's become my favorite. It has some fast "Rhythm" and some slow blues like "Love ain't nothing but the Blues". Great CD good quality recording even if you play it loud, it still sounds great.

Hello!Casey has one CD seller track on this CD - Whadaya Want. I hear it at swing dances all the time and it's great for beginners. It may have cost me ... for the CD with shipping, but the song was worth it to me. 'Rhythm' is another fine song and I'm sure you'll agree it's an addictive swing dance hit. 'Jump up' is the third track that I kind of dig and think any hepcap may enjoy. Not convinced to buy this CD? You can check out samples of the songs on this CD at the Casey McGill web site..

A True 6 Star 'Gotta Have' for any Swing Dancer!!!!,
By
This review is from: JUMP (Audio CD)
'Jump' w/ the Spirits of Rhythm, is Casey @ his mature best. When one thinks great can't get any better (I've seen Casey back in the 1980's [doing the LA club circuits] w/ Mood Indigo- and they were GREAT back then)!!! BOOM!! Casey will show you!!! 'Jump' is a gotta have. Cuts like 'Git it (In the groove) & 'Jump up' ROAR of 'toe tapping' 'knee slapping' 'spine shimmying' boogie woogie/swing. Lyrics 'hit that place in the soul' that cry out for one to dance. "Let's do the Lindy Hop till we blow our top...Get it, git it in the groove" "Do the Hop like a dynamite, do the Jitterbug jam w/ me..Saxophone swinging to the song, singing the blues away". His 'crooner' talents come out in 'Love ain't Nothing', 'I'm going to Love you Tonight' are beautiful ballads of uncompromised quality. 'Whadya Want' has a touch of the Lemon Sister's style, except better, as Miss Lee Lee does a fun riff (and octave slide) & almost a 'scat' into a trumpet sound. It is a complicated intermixing of multiple singers, in a fun 'jockey' style of presentation. Lastly 'Swing, Brother, Swing'. I needn't saw anymore. With the quality of Mr. Macgill a song title of that magnitude- does speak for itself.

Swing, Baby, SWING!,

Covers and originals all good, fun stuff! Great beats, good clean sound, easy and fun to sing along with. Some of the original songs are sometimes simplistic in structure, but the musicians are all the tops in their craft. Great for East Coast, Smooth/Savoy Lindy. (One of my all-time favorite dance songs, "Rhythm", is on this one!)
