5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Stuka reference for the modeler..., August 16, 2009

...and offers a lot for the general enthusiast also.

This is a typical entry in Mushroom's Yellow Series (this is No 6125 in that series). It is a 152 page, 6-1/2" x 9" card cover. Like most Yellow Series entries this book is divided into three sections:

The first section through page 66 is a development history supplemented by period photographs and line drawings. Prolific author Michulec here does a very neat job of following the dive bomber concept in general, at Junkers in particular, and the Ju 87 in detail. Each variant of the Ju 87 is described and illustrated with production numbers. There is even a brief section noting versions not built. The line drawings are outstanding.

The second section through page 122 has detailed photos supplemented by illustrations from contemporary technical manuals. The Ju 87A is illustrated with period photos since there are no survivors of that version but there are also excellent color shots of preserved Ju 87R and Ju 87D/G versions.

The third section has the color profiles detailing the various color schemes carried by the Ju 87 from before and throughout the war. Rather disappointingly there are only German schemes. I would have thought a Spanish Civil War scheme would have been a natural.

There are better books on the Ju 87. Some are listed in the bibliography on the last page. The Yellow Series does not have the service histories that other books offer. But this book is superb value for the money for the modeler and general enthusiasts aren't left out either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise Stuka Information, September 21, 2011

This review is from: JUNKERS JU 87 STUKA (MMP: Yellow) (Paperback)
This is a very good single-source book on the Stuka. It includes 1/72 scale drawings of the A through G versions of this aircraft. These drawings are very well done and clear. There are many color profiles from the A through G model included. There are detail color photographs of the JU-87R that is in Chicago's Museum of Science and Technology. The Ju-87G that is on display in the RAF Battle of Britain Museum is covered as well with color detail photographs. This volume includes a history of each variant along with many Stuka Technical Manual technical/maintenance illustrations that I have never before seen published in the many books covering the Stuka.

Mushroom Publications are known for their quality publications and this volume does not disappoint. This is a very good single volume reference for those interested in the Stuka from the historical perspective, and very good reference book for aircraft modelers.
