With its broad picture and relatively small price, this 27-inch set offers massive value. The AV-27430's dark-tinted picture tube provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture, while its three-line comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt). The set provides stereo audio (front-firing speakers) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. Hyper Surround Sound simulates surround sound from the set's two speakers.
A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between two sets of rear audio/video inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience (great for hooking up a camcorder or gaming console). A rear stereo audio output hooks the set up with an amplifier or surround receiver.
The set's Hyper-Scan high-speed channel changer is one of the fastest in the industry, while Return+ lets you return to a channel via the 10-key pad, even after sequentially scanning other channels. The set also features V-Chip and Channel Guard parental controls, front-panel lock, a multi-function timer (with sleep timer), XDS auto clock set, black-level expansion, Apacon (which enhances picture sharpness to deliver a crisper, sharper picture), closed captioning with text, noise muting, TV speaker on/off, and a unified remote control with game button.

Worth every penny,

I've had this TV going on almost 8 years now without one problem. The picture hasn't dimmed, the speakers are still crisp, and (despite being dropped a few times during 6 different moves) the TV just keeps on working as well as the day I bought it. I have a few friends that have gone through 2 or 3 TVs in the time that I've had this one alone. This is the only time I've bought a JVC product and am more than pleased. I recently upgraded to a HDTV (JVC of course) and this TV is being demoted to my bedroom. Still, I have a feeling I won't need to replace this TV for years to come.

I own this model and I love it. Very clear rich color. Only drawback is it only has rear av jacks.
