5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the price
This JVC TV is a great flat screen TV. It doesn't have all the unnecessary bells and whistles like Picture in Picture, Surround Sound, HDTV, or 3D filter tube like all the 700 dollar models, but who really notices or needs that. It has great sound and a perfect color flat screen for watching TV and DVD's.

3.0 out of 5 stars good tv
I just got this TV last week. It has 16:9 feature same as Sony wega. Document that comes with is horrible! I couldn't find any information about this feature as if it isn't a big deal. I know that it is a matter of pressing the button but it would be nice if there is some document about it. So when I first use this feature, 16:9 mode there are 2 black bars on top and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Best TV in it's price range, January 3, 2003

After a lot of research, I decided to buy this TV. I looked at the Sony WEGA but analog cable looks like junk on it. The JVC is better for all different sources. I'm giving it a 4 out of five because I wish it had 2 s-video inputs. Oh well.

The reviewer who is having a problem with 16:9 mode needs to set an option in his DVD player setup to output to 16:9 (sometimes called widescreen) mode. The DVD player will then not add the second set of black bars (unless the movie is 2.35:1, then there will be small black bars added to maintain the correct aspect ratio).

I know that it is a matter of pressing the button but it would be nice if there is some document about it. So when I first use this feature, 16:9 mode there are 2 black bars on top and the bottom, so far so good. But when I pop in any of my DVD movies, it has 2 more black bars on top of the first 2 black bars. So I have double black bars on top of one another. Picture is great but all movies looks like shooting with 2:35:1 panavision camera, doesn't make sense! I got this TV mainly for gaming and movie watching and it has enough RAC jack for all the systems I own, 1 component, 1 S-VHS, and 2 more audio video input plus extra audio jacks for audio receiver. Great buy none the less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV at a great price, March 29, 2003

Great picture and feature set. Kid friendly set lets you disable the front buttons from the kids. Theater Pro setting helps get the picture looking good (only a few changes using AVIA to get the picture near perfect). ...Highly recommended.

Just bought the TV from a local store, we compared this product against comparable Sony and Toshiba 27" flatscreen models. Couldn't tell the difference in picture or quality, yet about $50 cheaper than either of the two. Great value for your money, and although longevity remains to be tested, so far a great TV for all our daily uses.

... Bought the TV to watch cable, play DVDs and Playstation games.

Has plenty of jacks and more.

Picture is great for all my uses.

If you are looking for a good non-HDTV for a reasonable price, this one is a good choice.

Have seen the double black lines mentioned by another reviewer, but if you view widescreen DVDs, I recommend turning off the 16:9 ratio and they look fine. It seems that viewing widescreen DVDs in 16:9 ratio gives you a double wammy on the widescreen bit. Not too good, but viewed in regular mode, they look great.

I've owned other JVC products from 13" to 36", and this model is the best of them all! The 27" flat screen gives the illusion that the tv is much larger and the picture is absolutely incredible! Playing DVD's and watching digital quality tv is most rewarding. The sound output is excellent especially with the JVC Hypersound option. The remote is very user friendly with the illumination and universal controls for any vcr, cable box and dvd. I was tired of having so many remotes around the house. Plus the silver exterior makes the room brighter and (hides the dust very well). This is an awesome unit and you can get excellent pricing at BJ's wholesale club. FIVE STARS!!!!

Pros: The price has recently been marked down [money]at my local store, therefore, this makes it well worth the money. The picture on this model is sharp, and crisp, and better than the equivalent Sony.

Cons: Does not have a surf or favorite button (that I could find). The instructions were confusing. Also, the remote control could be better designed. It takes awhile to find what you are looking for, and the numbers are not aligned with the buttons.
