This 32-inch set uses a Pure Flat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared with a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture--partly owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light, but also due to the set's velocity-scan modulation technology and Invar shadow mask. A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. The mask allows in a brighter, clearer picture. Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.
The AV-32F702's three-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line). Other picture enhancements include Dynamic Focus and JVC's pairing of Real Color and Real Detail Creation. The set provides stereo audio with 5 watts of power per channel. Hyper Surround simulates surround sound from any stereo signal, while BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.
A component-video input grants optimal connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between two sets of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for convenient camcorder and gaming console hookups. The Return+ feature lets you return to a channel via the 10-key pad with regular return, or program a "Return Channel" to be returned to after sequentially scanning the channels (this feature's not available on JVC combination units).

What a great TV! Spend the extra $ and buy the flat screen it makes all the difference. The picture quality is incredible even with standard cable. Tried digital cable for awhile and the picture is even better. One problem is with using the AV-Compu Link and composite video to my JVC DVD player and receiver, the input does not automatically change to input2 it stays on input1, I have to manually change it. Also the picture turns black and white until I change the input. It's probably my lack of knowledge on how to hook it up properly not the TV itself. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this please email me. Other than that it has been a stellar performer. For those of you considering buying this TV, find the lowest price online then print it out and goto Sears. They matched the lowest price I found online and provided free delivery and also financed it for 6months at 0%. A+++++

After 4.5 years with this JVC,the tube died. we are not the kind of people who trade-up with every new innovation -- we just expect that $900 will get us a TV that lasts longer than a toaster oven. This product was not under warranty and while we didn't expect JVC to replace the set, we did expect some kind of accomodation with respect to replacement parts. JVC refused to stand behind its product and told us that we are SOL. I won't buy another JVC and I hope you don't either. Stick with a Sony (our old set is still around and going strong).
