Dark ages,

This TV is very dark. The picture gets very red and if the scene is nightime you can't see the background. You try to adjust the brightness to no avail. It didn't start out this dark but gets worse with time. If you like a clear picture this is not the set for you.

These JVC's don't last. I have had to repair it twice in a 3 three span.

I own the direct predecessor to this set, the AV27D201. My set is black and looks exactly the same as this one. I've enjoyed it for about five years now. Sure, the screen isn't perfectly flat, but this set has a nice picture, really good sound for a TV, and you can get sets like this for almost nothing these days!
It looks like they still have the annoying little light right underneath the picture tube. For some reason, the brainiacs at JVC seemed to think I need a bright little red light right under the picture tube to tell me the set is on. Can't I tell that by looking at the picture? Anyway, I used a bit of black electrical tape to cover it and all is well. With this one, just use duct tape instead.

Right out the box, this TV has a gorgeous picture and for this model number there is a similiar review @ Epinions.
No overscanned jagged edges, skin tones are correct. True black rendering is very good. Menu for the TV is dead easy. Meijer stores,Ohio ran an ad last week and took $50 off which dropped the price to ** $175.00 ** Best thing I could find with a Digital Comb Filter under $200 was Samsung TXR2035 or the Toshiba 20AF45, both 20" sets. This JVC has the digital comb filter, 600 lines of resolution, sound leveling (so the commercials don't yell at you)and several display and sound options and component inputs. We intended to tweak skin tones, color intensity, and true black. We have video sample that we use for that. There was nothing for us to do, right out of the box, this picture was great, period. |
