Product Description

The JVC Adixxion 2 GC-XA2 was an awesome tool for making movies and recording memories. The Adixxion 2 Camera takes this tool to the next level. With improved resolution, an improved gyro-sensor image stabilizer, upgraded Wi-Fi functions, an expanded viewing angle, and enhanced low-light performance, the Adixxion 2 could elevate you from casual user to full-blown addict. Despite weighing only about four ounces, the JVC Adixxion 2 Camera shoots in 1080/60p HD so you can capture every detail. The Adixxion stands up to rugged action without the need for an external housing, so you can capture every second as you ski, surf, mountain bikeyou name it. Film others and watch it go down with the LCD monitor, or set up a solo shoot using your smartphone to control the Adixxion and stream images remotely. The Adixxion 2 is also capable of monitoring up to four more Adixxion 2 cameras simultaneously. In addition to filming video, the Adixxion also shoots eight-megapixel photos and even has a time-lapse function for stills or video, so you can capture the sun slowly setting over the water or record the snow as it builds up outside your cabin overnight.

This camera has excellent video quality when recording at 1080p60. Any setting under this is pretty underwhelming. Good thing it can handle 1080p60 like a champ, right? Wrong. This camera will overheat if you record longer than 20-30 minutes, even if you set the LCD to turn off while recording. I did not experience this issue when recording in slow motion (720p120,) but the video quality was very poor. The bitrate was low and the video was grainy--barely usable. I was expecting the same 720p quality, simply at 120 frames per second. Clearly the processor cannot handle this, so video quality suffers.

When I experienced the overheating, one of two things would happen. 1) The camera would not indicate any problem whatsoever, and when you reviewed the footage later, you would find artifacts and major discoloration, (like a purple filter was applied.) 2) The camera would shut off without warning. If you leave the screen on while recording, you will see a warning about overheating. In my tests, I was using 1080p60, with or without the LCD on, and the camera mounted to a suction cup/arm from my car's windshield. I got the arm so the camera could sit back from the glass, and in the shade of my vehicle to prevent overheating. The device was not in direct sunlight. My A/C was set very comfortably as well. The camera was clearly overheating from the processor handling 1080p60 recording--not due to the environment.

I did get a chance to take the camera to the lake, and it performed admirably. Being quad-proof right out of the box without needing a case is pretty awesome. I did notice that when you got water in the microphone/speaker holes that recording and playback were affected until that water was removed.

JVC GC-XA2 - A First Impression

Check out my quick video first impression: http://youtu.be/D1MOzruOhs0

Hi,

This is just my first impression of the JVC GC-XA2 action camera (so 4 stars so far). I will include a more in depth review later after I get a chance to run it through its features.

Initially it seems well built, has an easily understood user interface and ergonomics, the video quality seems to be on par with the GoPro Hero3, but I haven't tried all the settings yet.

One thing to be cautious of, especially if you are clumsy like me, is that when inserting/removing the SD card, be very careful because, if your finger slips off, the card will shoot across the room OR if you happen to be outside, it will inevitably launch and head straight for the nearest body of water... that little compartment is spring OVER-loaded :)

Also, the battery can be a bit of a challenge to get out as it slides in quite snugly and you have to tap it out or get some very small fingers (nails) on it.

Other than that, so far it seems like a great alternative to the much more expensive GoPro Hero 3.

Just got this camera the other day and took out for its maiden voyage (Southern California surf mission)

I was really impressed with the larger mount that made it easily stick to the nose of my board and even more stoked with the upgrade on video quality. I previously had the Addixxion, version one - GC-XA1, and was underwhelmed with it's performance and video quality.

The microphone did get a lil' distorted with wind and water but that is too be expected with this little guy. However, when at the car and getting ready to surf audio was clear and crisp.

Really pumped that no water housing is needed as it saves a little extra money! Seems like it seals up nicely and I did not have any corrosion inside the camera after the surf.

The menu screen is really easy to navigate although I did not use the LCD much. The new app that JVC has is also pretty rad and easy to use and link up to -- night and day compared to the old version that was through a third party app provider. (I hooked up to my I-phone)

All-in-all, can't wait to put it through some more paces to see how it performs.

Verified Purchase
I have owned this camera for a little over 3 months now
I take it everywhere I go because it fits in my pocket.............

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this camera for one reason,.......Sound Quality

All the YouTube video reviews I saw made this cameras audio sound horrible
But I took a chance and purchased it anyway.............

As soon as I got it I updated the "Firm Ware" from the manufacture (Step by step instructions)
It's easy to do but Im sure the new cameras have the newest Firmware on them

Anyway
the Newest Firmware update addressed the Sound issue and added some nifty features to the menu
sdo the sound quality is not an issue at all
If anything its awesome be cause you can adjust the loudness in the menu

As I stated above:
I take this camera everywhere I go
Battery last almost 2 hours and best of all
this camera can be plugged into power while recording
for those 8 hour drive "Dash Cam" filming experiences.....

I recommend this camera over the HERO 3 for its ease of use and price

Regards, Rick
