Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Equipped with a DVD/CD player that plays a variety of popular disc formats, the compact JVC FS-S77 is ideal for space-challenged homes and apartments. The unit measures only 6.31 inches thick--slightly larger than the average CD case--yet still plays DVD-Audio/Video, DVD-RW, CD, Super Video CD, Video CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 formats. It also reads JPEG and WMA files and displays them on a connected TV screen. The combined features give users a solid home theater system for a moderate price.

The 100-watt system includes such essentials as electronic bass and treble tone controls, a 32-track programming memory, random and repeat play, four preset audio modes (pop, rock, jazz, and classical), a sleep timer, and CD synchro recording when connected to a recording device. The unit displays track information in an easy-to-read LCD window that glows in the dark. The FS-S77's flexibility extends to the tuner, which offers enough memory for 30 FM and 15 AM stations.

The FS-S77 is designed as a standalone unit, though it does include a front auxiliary input and a headphone jack. The dual full-range bass reflex speakers (50 watts x 2) each feature a 25-watt woofer and 25-watt tweeter to deliver rich, full-bodied sound.

What's in the Box
Main unit, 2 speakers, speaker cords, remote control, user's manual.

Product Description

The JVC FSS77 offers DVD Audio / Video Compatibility with virtually all disc formats. The FSS77 is also compatible with DVD Audio ¿ One of the latest and most advanced formats that far exceed CDs in total sound quality. The high specs of DVD Audio let you enjoy the highest quality stereo sound. The JVC FSS77 features Rhythmax for an intense listening experience even at low sound levels. This JVC exclusive technology accurately detects areas of sound, which constitute beats, or rhythm of the song, and amplifies them for an even punchier sound. Rhythmax provides upgraded acoustic experience even when the song has no articulate beats, such as classical music, because the Loudness function automatically amplifies bass sound recorded at low levels, which becomes inaudible when the sound level is low. The compact body of the JVC FSS77 incorporates a 5-disc tray-type disc changer mechanism, which lets you jump around an expanded number of movies, albums, and tracks without being bothered by frequent disc changes. Discs not in play can be removed even while playback is underway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Problem Solved... You Can't Go Wrong With JVC, March 30, 2005

When did I suddenly start reviewing electronics? Beats me...

I just picked up this nice little unit after having some trouble with a desktop Philips stereo which I also reviewed here on Amazon that I had to return (click to see the rest of my reviews).

No problems here...

I should have known I would like this unit. I first bought a JVC unit back in the early '80s, and they still haven't lost their touch (it was a small boom box which still lives on as the rockin' air monitor in our CD library at the radio station I'm involved with).

This rig was overkill for me, but at the price, it didn't matter. I am only using this for music, and through headphones- so I didn't even need the speakers (they will likely become my new studio monitors- so I may have killed two birds with one stone here...).

What is this RhythmAx feature? According to the manuals, it's some trade secret- but I find myself using it all the time. It's a bass-boost, but it's not. I never use 'loudness' or 'bass boost' on other units because I find them insanely irritating, and I'm not listening to rap music. I'm normally a treble-freak too... The RhythmAx feature brings out a nice clean bass line while leaving everything else alone. It's almost like having surround sound without surround sound.

Overall, this thing sounds great, it's solid, it weighs a ton, it's well-built.

If you need a small system- buy it.

The other selling point for me was the inputs on the back for my cassette deck, plus the full function remote control.

I keep the unit (without speakers) on my desk at work, and it's just the right size. It would also fit nicely on any sturdy shelf if it's deep enough.

I also found this unit in Circuit City and Sears if you want to play around with it... Bring your favorite CD and headphones and tell the salespeople to beat it...
