This slim, compact silver camcorder includes a powerful zoom, digital noise reduction, and an LCD screen to make recording at picnics, backyard barbecues, and graduations easy. Best of all, when you are done recording, simply pop out the cassette, place it in a VHS playpak adapter (not included), and play it on any standard VCR.

The GR-AXM18US camcorder features a digital time-base corrector (TBC) that helps eliminate picture jitter, and digital chroma noise reduction (CNR) that eliminates color noise and smear. This unit also features a picture stabilizer function that corrects camera shake instantly, giving you smooth and stable pictures, which when combined with the TBC and CNR features makes this camcorder not only incredibly easy to use, but as point-and-shoot as they come. The GR-AXM18US also includes a combination of 11 built-in digital special effects and wipes/fades that allow you to give your videos a polished, professional look, as well as a built-in battery charger that means you will always have a spare at your fingertips, without having to fumble for an extra battery in the middle of an important moment.

This JVC VHS camcorder utilizes a 1/6-inch CCD image sensor with 320,000 pixels, and a 2.2 to 44 millimeter f1.8 wide-angle lens. This unit provides you with both a 20x optical zoom, and an 800x digital zoom, ensuring you will always be able to get up close and personal no matter how far away you are. The GR-AXM18US has a 30.5 millimeter filter, and requires less than one lux of lighting in Super LoLux mode. This compact camcorder utilizes the NTSC system for VHS-C and VHS NTSC Standard formats, includes mono audio, and date and time stamping. You can view your subject while filming through the 0.5-inch black-and-white CRT viewfinder, or via the 2.5-inch color LCD display that both rotates 270 degrees, and flips out before snapping back so you can film your video from virtually any angle. This unit includes both auto and manual controls for the focus, exposure and white balance, has a built-in microphone, and a title generator that features eight preset messages in either English, Spanish, French or Portuguese. The JVC GR-AXM18US allows for animation and time lapse, has a quick review and retake function, includes a black fader feature, and provides you with digital auto tracking. My husband and I bought a new digital camcorder last August, but have never adapted to it, as it is so difficult to view the films. We had owned several VHS-C in the past. This is a welcome return to a familiar format. As expected it is bigger that the digital one, but it is slimmer and lighter than our last VHS-C model.
The instructions are a little more complicated than the last model. The zoom button is very conveniently placed. We have only tested it and the quality of picture and sound seem good. We are about to go on a trip and see the results.

my old camera was getting worn out. i knew i had to look for a new one, but wasn't sure about digital ones. i was afraid that i would need a DVD burner to make DVDs and did not want to store all the videos on my hard drive, because i could lose them any time (you never know when a virus may strike). anyway, i almost lost hope, thinking that vhs cameras are long in the past. luckily, i was wrong. i love this camera! it's very convenient. it has a great screen, so you see what your taping, and you can flip it over to tape yourself! neat!!! i would definitely recommend this product to people like me, who like some things old-fashioned way!

After a year's use of my JVC GR-AXM18U video camera, which was a gift from my husband's parents, I got the "Safeguard Mode" message that suggests you remove the battery and try again. After a lot of expense and trouble, including purchasing a new, bigger battery, I put the camera on the shelf for another year.

Today is my little girl's third birthday, and I really wanted to use the camera to memorialize the event. So in desperation I did a google search for "jvc vhs camcorder safeguard mode message" and have spent a good half hour reading that everyone else in the world who owns a JVC camera has the same problem, and that there's no way to fix it. The best solution is tossing it in the trash and buying a new one.

I just want to shout to the world that JVC is a defective brand, the company should be sued, and there is an online group attempting to do just that. As for me, I will NEVER buy anything from JVC again, and if I can save a few other buyers from the same disappointment and expense, then that's the best I can do with this situation.
