So far I have shot about two hours of video and I am very pleased. This is my third JVC / Kenwood camcorder and all are still performing very well. The first Everio I bought was not HD but under the right conditions it takes very clean, bright images with good color saturation. My only complaint about the older ones I have is they are not good in low lighting. This model has excellent low light capabilities. Be aware that you'll need a computer with a 2Ghz or better processor to make longer videos that won't take hours to create since the files are pretty huge. Sound recording is great! I like taking videos of live bands that play the clubs in my neighborhood and this camcorder does a great job without audio clipping even when the band is very loud. The built-in lens cover is an absolute joy to operate. No more fumbling with old-fashioned covers that pop off and get lost or dangle from a tether!

Update - 6/3/13 : Battery life could be better. Instead of paying $55 for the extended battery you may want to consider an external battery pack like the ones used for recharging phones and MP3 players. I bought one that came with adapters and used one of them that fit this cameras power input jack. Similar product to this : http://www.amazon.com/EasyAcc-12000mAh-External-Battery-Charger/dp/B008YRG5JQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1370273898&sr=8-3&keywords=external+battery+charger - Other than that, the stock battery is only good for about 45 minutes of constant recording time.

If you want this for just the WIFI feature, then do not buy it. The WIFI does work, but it is far from as described on the item description. The WIFI is very hard to set up and get running. It is just not very user friendly. Then, once you set up the video, it has a strong delay and is very jerky.

I bought this camcorder because my son rides bulls in the rodeo and I wanted to set the camera up on the tripod and then start recording with the remote app just before he rides. It will not work for this. You have to be right next to the camrea for it to work at all.

I will keep this camrea. I thought hard about returning it, but with all the other features I could not find a camcorder even close to this price range. Who knows, maybe they will come out with updated software and all will be well. We can always hope right :) .

****Update*** I see they dropped the price from 299.00 when I bought it, down to 199.00 (always my luck). Anyway for 199.00 it is a much better deal.

The battery, only about a hour of life , was too short for a day tour. Extra one is needed..

The best camcorder on the market for the money. The WiFi feature is flawless. I would recommend it to anyone.

So I was expecting it to be compact, but not this compact. It's easy to use, not much to setup and takes great video (make sure you use a fast card). The touchscreen isn't hyper sensitive but JVC included a tiny stylus which helps. Oddly, I haven't found a place on the camera to stow it. The WiFi feature is pretty slick and easy to setup. I've used it with an Android phone and tablet. You can see (at a lower quality) what the camera sees, start/stop record, zoom and take snapshots via the connection. You can also copy files from the camera to the phone or tablet. When connected directly, the maximum range is about 30 feet. The manual says you can use this as a security camera and access it over the internet via your home network, but I haven't tried this. I have not edited any of the video, so I'm not certain how it will hold up. The one downside I've found so far is there is no charger for the battery, it only charges on the camera and you can't use the camera while it's charging.

Sure, the low-light ability could be better and the wireless range is not very good, but for the price this camcorder is phenomenal. I would definitely recommend for budget-consumers looking for something to take great videos.

Depending on what you need this camcoder is perfect. Light, small enough for most pockets, easy to operate. Clean HD video, good sound and the remote controll from smartphone is excellent. I've read some complaints about the wifi, but the truth is some people don't read directions. Others have a weak network setup to begin with. Wifi is fine. I would recommend this camcorder. I was concerned about what I would get because of the low price until I checked YouTube. There are plenty of demonstrations of the camcorder at work.

I got this for Xmas 2012. After research and consideration between this brand and Sony..I went with jvc. Has touch screen, wifi, and 1080p wide screen. Sony equivalent brand couldn't touch this as it didn't have wifi. And after reading the stuff that comes with. Its got an app u download for phone to control camera. As u need to be within 50 or so feet of came for the remote to work and well you can also use as a child monitor with the touch of your phone..anyhow I give

Great camera, quick to start up, good quality video and pictures. So far I like the touch screen over my previous JVC with the laser slide. This is much more intuitive. Mic is good. Small and lightweight, quicker than the hard drive JVC I used previously.
