Product Description

The new JVC HA-FX300 employs a range of sound-enhancing technologies, including an aluminum evaporation diaphragm, a new internal dual-metal structure and aluminum housing. The new aluminum evaporation diaphragm used in the HA-FX300 reproduces high-frequency detail more accurately than conventional cellulose or polymer-based diaphragm designs. To further enhance performance, the headphone features JVC's new Bi-Metal structure. The drive unit is housed in a stainless steel base wrapped in a high-specific-gravity brass ring to eliminate vibration and energy loss. Other innovations are aluminum housings, designed to reduce resonance, and the use of OFC (oxygen-free copper) to minimize transmission loss in the 1-meter cord. The HA-FX300 also offers a plug that is compatible with Apple's iPhone. To ensure a snug, comfortable fit, the headphones come with three different sized silicon rubber earpieces and a pair of memory foam earpieces for a customized fit. These provide superior isolation from external sounds and minimize sound leakage.

The tiny wire gauge and iffy cord construction of these cans is to be expected in phones hanging on a wall at Target for twenty bucks.

The sound is better than those, however, so a higher price is justified. Two things help the sound here--first the choice of eartips, which are soft Comply-type foam that provide a great seal and enable better bass response and subtler volume levels by keeping ambient noise down. Second, the over-the-ear cable arrangement means your ears will buffer any cable movements, keeping cord microphonics to a minimum.

Problem: the same over the ear cable setup is inconvenient and can be less comfortable than JVC's own "ear cushion" arrangement in its HAFX67 buds, which are very low priced. The ear cushion on those absorbs pretty much all cord noise and as a result those phones are the comfort champs of all canal earphones. They're just fantastic. My review of those buds asks JVC to make a step-up model with better drivers and the same ear cushion configuration for more serious sound with the same great comfort.

This set of phones has the sound upgrade but deletes the air cushion. Perhaps JVC found that the weight of the improved drivers and enclosures made the ear cushion design impractical for its "better sounding" models.

But I think there's ample room for a midrange air cushion model that doesn't go for the full metal jacket like these phones do, but still has sound quality that slays the current air cushion buds. JVC: you must make that model.

I'd pay an extra 5 bucks on this hi-fi model for upgraded cord and solder joints, just to make sure the durability justifies the $60 price tag.

My search for the perfect earbuds continues. I find myself using the $14 ear cushion buds more than these, just for comfort--even though these do sound better. If I want great sound I'll listen to my Senn HD350s right here at home on their ASL amplifier. When I'm on the go, comfort and convenience override ultimate sound quality for me--and since I'm getting the same crappy cable with the ear cushion phones for 14 bucks that I'm getting with these $54 wonders, I'll stick with the cheaper phones because when they break it doesn't hurt to replace them and they're more comfortable than anything else, at any price, from any manufacturer.

You can spend big bucks on Etys with their mushroom tips (very good, I have a pair of those) Shures, Senns, Beats. Even Bose if you don't care about price/performance. All of them will sound better than JVC's ear cushion models, just as these do.

But they won't be anywhere near as comfortable. This model has great sound from lows to highs. JVC: you have made a good headset here. Upgrade the cord to reflect the rest of the unit's quality and sound, please, and then I might think about buying it when my current ones bite the dust.

Or I might just stick with the lower-fi, cheaper air cushion buds. Make the step-up air cushion phones, JVC, and I'll buy a lifetime supply.

This 8 Hz to 25 kHz frequency response range Dynamic Driver In Ear Monitor is one of the best I've heard of any type, either Dynamic or Balanced Armature; at any price range.

It just has so much smooth bottom end, and just enough sparkle after a 200+ or so lenth burn in time that you will really, really enjoy the heck out of them.

I do.

ALSO: I use the v-moda BLISS Large Sleeves with them to get the best fit for my ears. You may choose to do the same. They work perfectly together.

I've had these buds for a month now and absolutely love them. The design which is bent about 45 degrees allows them to sit snugly within the ear while maintaining a good seal and the the cord wrapping over the ear is both comfortable and makes them very secure. I use them regularly while weight lifting and doing chores around the house and have not had any problems with them coming out.

That said, what makes these buds great are the sound. All I can say about that, is WOW! The bass is booming but the mids and highs come through clear, without being over whelmed by the bass. If you like music with a lot of bass, I listen to punk and some metal, then these are absolutely the best buds you can get in the $50 range. I tried 4 other brands before these and none even compared.

I would and have recommended them to my friends.
