Having bought the JVC HAFX1X Headphone, Xtreme-Xplosivs, I thought this set would be an improvement since it adds a mic for a "hands free" experience... These are nothing compared to the robust and quality build the JVC HAFX1X Headphone, Xtreme-Xplosivs offers. It almost feels like a cheap knock off to the Xplosivs.
When I first took these out of package I felt disappointed to the build quality, tho BOTH pairs look alike. The Xplosivs feel more robust and are even "heavier" and sturdier than this pair here.
The sound. albeit better than average, is a far cry from the Xplosivs. The bass isn't as striking.
I guess I was too trusting of the picture and the same looks as the Xplosivs, but these are a definite step down. If you are looking for head phones with amazing club sound, the Xplosivs are the way to go, if you must have a headset with mic, I would buy these if you must as they still sound amazing compared to the average but the built is a disappointment... 2stars out of 5, due mostly on the build quality and slight let down on the sound quality compared to the sister Xplosivs.

I had previously bought a pair of JVC earphones from the XX series without the mic (model HAFX1X), so I was expecting something similar to them when I bought these. The sound is good, but not as good and you can tell just by comparing the two sets of earphones side by side. The other model I bought has a distinctly longer body...and you can hear it in the bass response. It also has a much thicker cord which is easier to manage than the thin cable used in these pair. Also, this doesn't come with a carrying case like my other pair do. I was planning on ordering a second pair, as I like having that mic on my cable and I need a pair for work and a pair for my commute/workout, but after getting these I have decided against that.

These also don't fit quite as nicely as the others and are even a little uncomfortable at times to wear. Not as bad as the sony pair I had at work before this though.

Still...they are better sounding than the pair of Sony earphones I had at work and any default pair that comes with a device (like my phone). So if you absolutely must have the mic, I recommend these. If not, go for the HAFX1X model instead you won't regret it.

I wasn't expecting too much from these, and they didn't really give much without a boost from the EQ of my MP3 player, but when I turned it on did it have some boomy bass. Not only that but it was able provide a clear sound when the equalizer was set to create a dark sound. (recessed mid and rolled off treble) The sound was not dark at all, it had great clarity and did not sacrifice bass. If that wasn't enough then I put it through another EQ and bass boost and it still had great clarity and had even more bass. I hooked it up to a FiiO E6 amplifier and it produced bass that would make a basshead happy. When plugged into my computer with the amplifier the quality of the sound is compromised at higher volume levels which is disappointing but it still has boomy bass at lower volumes. There are a few concerns though, that would be the fitting, packaging, and cord. The way I put these in the 1st time (what was seemingly the right way) created a very tight seal and caused the pressure of the blood in my ears to increase dramatically tot he point there it hurt my ear drums, but when I put it in the right way they were much better. Another concern is the packaging. They use the devilish plastic casing that everyone hates, and there is no way to open it without mutilating the packaging. They glued the box the headphones and documentation was in to the casing making it harder to get everything out and making it easier to mess up and break the headphones, they really should reconsider the packaging. My final concern is the quality of the cord. It's sub par at best, it seems to be a very cheap rubbery plastic and there are already indentations on it from the packaging. The headphones that came with my MP3 player (Samsung OEM) have a better quality cord than this.Read more ›

I am, ahem, frugal and a snobby audiophile. I am an IT consultant and require insulation from outside distractions when the work needs done. Regularly I jump on phone calls and GotoMeetings where I must type and talk; holding a phone is not a possibility. So the requirement: a set of ear buds with a microphone that sound good and drown out external distractions. The iPhone ear buds sound pretty good, but no sound isolation. The JVC HAFR201s do the trick. With a little equalization ([...]) these sound as good as my buddy's $300 Beats over the ear headphones, no joke. But the tone contouring/equalization is required to achieve "Beats" quality. I will submit that the Beats sounded better out-of-the-box, but for a $287 savings (I bought my JVC HAFR201s used for $13), I'll mess around with iTunes equalizer settings. These are worth way more than I paid.

I looked at at both FX101 and 201R and they are exactly same specifications with just 1 difference which is 201R has mic ( [...] ) , I wasn't sure why this had lower rating and the other had higher rating, I purchased this earbuds regardless and the sound quality is very good(Tested with HTC One 320kpbs mp3 song) and BASS is good as well i dont think any earbuds will beat a 50nm Headphones. These are very comfortable to wear for a long time.
