I really wanted to like these earphones. I found their sound reproduction to be pretty good for the price. They have three sizes of soft, easy to change ear pieces and a pair of foam ear inserts. I determined the small size would work great for me. The fit felt comfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Clear Accurate Sound - Especially at this price point!, March 15, 2009
This review is from: JVC HAFXC50B Micro HD Inner Ear Headphone (Black) (Electronics)
I previously owned the Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones which when compared to the stock iPod headphones are a vast improvement in themselves.

Recently I have had alot more time to really listen to my iPod. For the last few years I have only been able to listen for a few songs here and there without being interrupted so I never really enjoyed any of it - it was a nice distraction but that about it, just never really sunk my preverbal teeth into the experience. Now that I can spend hours listening I have noticed that the Bose headphones lacked fidelity, depth, clarity - as well as the bass is rather muddy - and I have always been annoyed at them falling out of ears when I would chew gum or get a little active.... So it was time for a change....

I tried a number of different headphones out including some Altec Lansing, Philips, and Bose QC2... nothing really gave me the full body sound that I am looking for.

So I started to research the sound Isolating type earbuds. I absolutely adore the specifications on Shure SE530, as well as the Ultimates Triple.Fi Pro 3 Way - they look phenomenal! I wish I had the money to check those out, but right now the budget does not permit it - so I tried the JVC Micro HD, because they boast a different type construction then all the other headphones - they do not use an acoustic chamber to develop the sound, which means that there is no chance of any standing waves or wave coupling that can happen. Just pure clean sound straight from the driver...

Frankly I am Amazed - Seriously and Whole Heartedly Flabbergasted at the quality of sound from these ear buds. The bass is solid, full and tight, the mid range has full body without being over powering and the highs are crisp, clean and refreshing like a deep breath of mid-morning air in the Rockies...

There experience is revolutionary for me, I am rediscovering my music collection, there is a song that I have listened to for over 20 years and with these headphones I have heard talking in the background at the end of the song for the first time.... The data was always there - just never had a means to really extract it....

My music tastes are all over from Metal, Industrial, Techno to Hip Hop, (some) Rap, Acoustic guitar, New age, Environmental, Blues, Jazz - and I listen to a daily talk radio show... and everything that I have thrown at these guys they have produced an experience that tickles the taste buds of the ears and mind...

I can say without a doubt - this is one of my all time best ways that I have ever spent $23(including shipping)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't do better for the price, May 14, 2009

Just got these in the mail yesterday and I was really impressed. I was a little nervous about the fit, but they are extremely comfortable (I used the smallest tip provided). The noise isolation of these is really good, which will be great when used in the gym. The sound quality is great for a 25-30 dollar set of earphones and they seem like they will be easy to care for as JVC recommends using a damp cloth and a tooth brush to clean the tip as needed. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a set of earphones that are comfortable with great sound quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb in-ear headphones at this price point, June 8, 2009

I just got these JVC in-ear headphones and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sound.

Especially impressive is the bass--amazingly clear and tight without the "boomy" sound you hear on some in-ear headphones, a major achievement considering how small the drivers really are (they have to be small enough to fit into the ear canal!). You'll need in-ear headphones costing maybe 5-6 times as much to approach the quality of the bass of what the HA-FXC50-B achieves.

I'd like a slightly less peaky treble, but otherwise this is one of the major bargains out there in terms of in-ear headphones for portable music players.

I really wanted to like these earphones. I found their sound reproduction to be pretty good for the price. They have three sizes of soft, easy to change ear pieces and a pair of foam ear inserts. I determined the small size would work great for me. The fit felt comfortable.

My concern is about durability. During the first day of use, one earpiece ceased working. I think it would be unfair to downgrade the product because I had a defective sample, so I'm giving three stars, right in the middle. A cursory evaluation of the product leads me to think that the size of the wire leading from the plug to the earpieces may make this product less durable than some other listening devices. (Disclaimer: I'm not an engineer and I don't have the capability or interest to perform an earphone autopsy.)

Summary: If this had lasted for a year or so, this would be a five star product. My experience indicates there might be a durability issue with this item.

Although this is a review of the product, I would like to comment on Amazon's service. They were prompt to resolve the problem. Amazon offered to replace these headphones or issue a refund. I chose the refund and ordered another pair of earphones from a different manufacturer. Kudos to Amazon for customer service. Amazon's 30 day return policy makes it easy to correct a problem when there is a defective product.

2.0 out of 5 stars The left ear bud died after three months of use, August 21, 2010

I liked the sound quality well enough but the left ear bud started to flake out just after two months and was completely dead after three months. I used them mostly when walking and at work. If the durability is improved, these would be great lower cost ear buds. Compared to my two year old SkullCandy earbuds, theas ear buds just don't cut it.

I saw the warnings, but assumed that the durability issues were exaggerated. Nope. Right ear stopped working a few weeks ago. I was hoping for more than six months out of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Headphones Ever, January 17, 2011

This was actually the second pair of JVC HAFXC50B Micro HD Inner Ear Headphones I have purchased. I had come across an article in an audiophile magazine (don't remember which one) in which the author raved on these headphones. He/she stated that these headphones as good as any high dollar set ever. Being the kind of guy that loves sound quality and saving money, I ordered a pair and was blown away by the lows, mids and highs that come from these tiny headphones.

I have had mine for about a year now with no problems whatsoever, and ordered this second pair as a gift for my niece. She absolutely loves them.

Best deal I have come across in a long time.

These are excellent earphones for the price with a few caveats. The first is that in order to get the best sound out of them they need to be broken in for several dozen hours. The second is that to get optimal bass response you must have a very good seal with the silicone tips - just pull the top of your ear upwards gently while inserting them to get a deeper seal. Otherwise they just sound tinny.

If those criteria are met these provide a very clear and detailed sound. The sound signature is definitely on the bright side and they are rather treble-heavy. Persons suffering from treble sensitivity should probably stay away. The level of detail and tonal balance, though, is very difficult to beat for the price. Don't expect subwoofer bass - the low-end response is tight, punchy, and accurate. A very pleasant sound overall and a very cheap glimpse into the detail and clarity offered by higher-end earphones.

QC issues aside these are definitely pretty near the cream of the crop as far as budget in-ears are concerned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value for your money!, November 9, 2009

This review is from: JVC HAFXC50B Micro HD Inner Ear Headphone (Black) (Electronics)
I've gone through a large number of ear phones, due to durability issues and frequently misplacing them. So I have a pretty good basis for comparison when it comes to audio quality of ear phones. I have to say that the audio quality in these ear buds is simply amazing and comparable to most really high end ear buds. It is amazing to me how JVC managed to price these so low. I've bought 3 pairs of these so far, to replace the ones I have at work, home and a set I carry with me most of the time. Aside from the great audio quality, I bought 3 pairs because from my past experience, the cable on the ear buds appears to be less durable than I would hope (because the cables are so thin). I haven't had any problems with them yet and they've already out lasted my last pair of V-moda, which were supposed to be very durable. Only time will tell how long these will last me. Either way, at this price, it's still an incredible value for your money. I highly recommend these over a pair of most $100 ear buds. The audio quality is just that good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Sound Quality, August 23, 2010
This review is from: JVC HAFXC50B Micro HD Inner Ear Headphone (Black) (Electronics)
Terrible Sound Quality!

No Bass, Harsh Tremble. I would said it could not compare an open-air earphone in dollar store.

(Although usually open-air earphone is better than an earbud because of size).

Not recommend to anyone else. Surprised JVC produces such bad product.

The only pros is it looks nice.
