Very good headphones.
Hard TT
The bass is nice and strong, but the treble is not very pleasing and the middle sounds too far.

VALUE: I won't say because it hurts to even say I paid 30 dollars for this.

I am a dedicated user of JVC "ear cushion" phones. They are the best cheap phones on the market.

For about $10 more you can get these and they blow away the ear cushion models in sound quality. They are quite comfortable. Not quite as comfy as the Ear Cushions, but still very good. I have phones from Etymotics and Ultimate Ears that cost far more than these. I pretty much listen to them at home. They are too valuable to take with me!

Here we have an inexpensive set of canal phones that sounds damn near as good as the $150 Etys, which I love. I can wear these for longer periods without discomfort too, although long talk radio sessions still demand the Ear Cushion phones for pure long-term comfort. You sacrifice some sound quality but for talk they sound great.

In this price range, we have a new champ. I've been saying that if JVC developed a low-priced phone with a "better sound" mission I would buy it. Well, they did, and this is it. I got mine in red, but you can get it in black as well. Sounds and looks great with Apple products or whatever miniplug player you're using.

If you're a headphone junkie like me, you'll probably try these out anyway.

This price segment is astoundingly crowded, with mostly fragile merchandise that isn't worth spending a twenty dollar bill on. And that goes for big name makers like Sony as well as small-time junk dealers like Skullcandy. This JVC set shares the small wire gauge of its rivals in the segment, and only time will tell if it is as prone to breakage as most. I've had good luck so far with its little downmarket brothers, and so far this model shows no sign of fragility.

It comes with three sizes of eartips, and two included sets of earwax filters.

Sound is great, I listen mostly to rock music, so the bass is nice. I don't know that I have fancy enough ears to tell the difference between $500 headphones and $50 headphones, but I can sure tell the difference between $5 and $50. These definitely fall into the latter category, and I will be getting another pair. They're comfortable, even when I'm working or exercising, and they don't move around too much in my ears. So why only 3 stars you ask? Durability.

Bought these headphones 9/30/11, they stopped working today 02/22/12. Don't get me wrong, I love these headphones, but five months is a little short of a lifespan. Today at work I noticed the sound cutting out intermittently, whenever the headphone jack would move or flex basically. Pressing on the jack makes the sound cut back in, but I use these to listen to music while I work, so keeping the headphone jack in one position the entire time without bumping it is a little out of the question. 1 year warranty, right? Just fax or e-mail JVC your proof of purchase, pay to ship the headphones to them, then wait 3-4 weeks for a replacement set to come your way. For $25, it makes more sense for me to just buy a new pair, which amazon will have on my doorstep by Monday.

The bass is nice and strong, but the treble is not very pleasing and the middle sounds too far. Over all, the sound is not very balanced. Have to turn the volume down to enjoy the music.

The JVC HAFX51B in ear headphones Where reviewed on multiple pages as "better than the JVC HAFX67W (JVC Ear-Cushion's)" (JVC HAFX67W Headphone, In-Ear, White ) and although the hafx51b's build is much nicer than the hafx67w's the sound quality drastically decreases, I Believe it is because the Micro-HD driver's in the hafx51B are so close to the ear the Highs are really sharp and winey and the lows don't have the clarity or the power that they deserve. I have also seen that with the Micro-HD drivers the sound becomes very screechy when the music it turned to normal volume (about 80%) and that when a really low note (regularly drums) is played then the bass completely cracks. I have to turn the volume to about 50%-45% to be able to hear music without wanting to take the headphones off. Of course at this point the music is so soft almost no bass is heard and the experience of getting enveloped in the music fades. I will now do a breakdown on these headphones:

FIT 7/10: The in-ear canal design is not meant for people with really small ears and it also makes the headphones uncomfortable after a period of time.

BASS 5/10: Yes the bass needs to be nice and crisp, but it also needs to be strong and powerful to let you engulf into the music (it is not nice to hear only treble and almost no bass). The reason of this might be that you cannot go past the 50% volume mark without getting screech and cracking in the micro-HD drivers.

When I first purchased these ear buds, I was expecting a small upgrade in sound and bass quality compared to some $15 ear buds I previously owned. While I really enjoy the quality sounds the ear buds produce, I still feel that the bass could have been a little stronger and fuller. But for their price, they're still great to listen to.
