Ramble,
By AnalogMan (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: JVC HAG101 Closed Ear Headphones (Black) (Electronics)
Luckily I have these for my Computer which has a graphic EQ. The treble is harsh, but the bass is not over-pronounced or outspoken like some of the other complaints people had about JVC's. Like most typical cheap transducers (speakers/headphones) there is a pronounced high mid boost, so I adjusted to compensate... They just don't have the detailed imaging that my old, worn-out AKG 260 have. [...] they are pretty comfortable [...] I am using these with a DFI nF3 250Gb motherboard (which is powering the headphones)
I bought them for a cheap spare for recording with many people, so everyone has something to hear the tracks with. I just plugged them in 7 minutes ago so I haven't tried them with any other devices.

I purchased these headphones to replace the awful walkman style ones we were forced to use for our talk radio show, and since using them, our sound quality and consitency have improved dramatically. Now we hear the mixer output at the same volume with stunning clarity. They sheild just enough outside sound so that ambient noise doesn't get through, and you can still be aware of your surroundings. I would recommend this product for anyone on a tight budget planning to do sound editing or play online games.

Real cheap...and that's about the best you can say about these,

These are selling REAL cheaply on Amazon. For under five bucks, you can't even get a meal, but you can get these headphones. So ends the positive things I can say about these headphones.
Now for the negatives: Harsh treble, muddy bass, overemphasized midrange, not very comfortable if worn over long periods, kind of ugly and clunky. I can't think of a pair of headphones for less money that's better, if you consider that a recommendation, but for about twice the price (still pocket change) you can get a decent cheap set of Koss KCS75 earphones which are better in every conceivable way to these. I mean, even the junk earbuds that came in the box with your mp3 player are likely better than these. Uh, well, every way unless you WANT ugly and clunky over the ear phones. If you want good over the ear phones, Koss offers those, too, at reasonable prices. If you think "they can't be THAT bad, and at the price I'll try them" then I'll remind you that a fool and his money are soon parted, and leave it at that...

Wow, These Sound Terrible!,
This review is from: JVC HAG101 Closed Ear Headphones (Black) (Electronics)
Pros:
* Reasonably comfortable. Not nearly as comfortable as my old AKGs, but there are much less comfortable head phones out there. * Looks okay. I mean, not great, but they look like an okay pair of headphones in a chunky plasticky way. * Reasonably tough. Just yesterday my foot was on the wire and I stood up. The left headphone popped off and a little piece of plastic went flying across the room. Gathering up the parts, I was able to piece it back together and it's as mediocre as new! Cons: * Sound quality. Wow. These are probably the worst sounding pair of headphones I've ever used. The previous reviewer that mentions the cheapo earbuds that came with your MP3 player will sound better is spot on. These will make you think there is something wrong with your equipment. Some people may be more used to muddy low end and terrible scratchy treble. If you aren't using them for music, they may suit you, for me these fail the most basic of requirements. * Wire. My AKG head phones had the wire come out just one side of the headphones. I miss that. These have a wire on each side. I find this design makes the headphones much more cumbersome to wear and take on and off.

Flat,

The price is right and the fit is pretty good considering I have a mondo-large head. However, the sound quality is not so great. I get better sound out of the cheap headphones that hang off my ears. This set is very flat and hollow, not very warm. They might be ok with an EQ. I have this set at work and wish someone would jack them so I have an excuse to go buy something else.

Good for the price...,

Besides echoing many other comments regarding frequency response (somewhat harsh treble, muddy bass), they do the job as a recording monitor for instruments in the mid-range pretty well.
And for the price, I really can't complain... the phones themselves have far outlasted any others I have ever owned, including expensive ones--with exception of the ear pads that are disintegrating after probably 6-7 years. The fact that they still make this model is likely some testament to the HA-G101 overall resilience though heavy use.

At first I thought the purchase of these headphones was a complete mistake since the sound for music was so poor. HOWEVER, by using the Equalizer function in iTunes and Windows Media Player, these headphones are actually decent - for the price. If you are undecided between these and something $10 more and care what things sound like, pony up the extra bucks. A good set of headphones should not NEED an equalizer to sound good. If you own this set, the EQ settings have high treble as high as possible, midrange at bottom, and bass above half, with the shape for 10 sliders in a rough V. These headphones handle bass pretty well. I found these settings worked well across folk, death metal, jazz, techno, alternative, and classical - so pretty much everything.

Good enough for me. Was looking for a good pair of headphones in the cheap to game with. These are comfortable, sound good enough, and have a nice long cord on them if your gaming on a console and need to sit back and away from the tv. Of course expect nothing amazing from these but hey if they're stolen your out 5 bucks.

They are ok but not great,

I have had better headphones for the price in the past but i needed an extra pair for my spare computer in the guest room and they sound muffled compared to my SkullCandy headphones that i own which are smaller and more lightweight and plus over a long period of time they make my ears sweat like my tag line they are ok but not great if your on a budget get them but if you can spend a few more $'s get a pair of SkullCandy LowRider headphones or there earbuds which are good as well even the JVC Jelly style earbuds are better and more cleaner sounding but i think they should last if you take care of them
