Astonishing for the price,
By
This review is from: JVC HARX700 Precision Sound Full Size Headphones - Black (Electronics)
For the money, these "little" wonders are as good as it gets. After about 100 hours, their true character comes out - clean mids and highs, great soundstage, and visceral bass
Pros: -Sound incredible for the money; can compete with MANY much higher-priced phones, especially of the boutique variety (Bose, Skullcandy, etc) -Comfortable for long stretches -Don't require a dedicated amplifier (but can still benefit from one) -Simple, functional, and durable design Cons: -Pleather earcups get quite hot; not unique to these but rather a characteristic of all closed and semi-closed headphones with pleather cups Other thoughts: -Quite large. These compete with the Everglide S500's for being the biggest cans I own -These aren't true closed phones. As such, they do not provide the isolation you may expect Final thought: -If you only have $50 to spend on full-size headphones, there is simply no point in looking any further. They aren't just great for the money. They are just plain great.

Well, I'll try to keep this quick...I'll probably fail.
Hard to say anything original about these phones(by the way, please...never....EVER...use the word 'cans' again when speaking of headphones, it was cute the first billion times...but now just plain embarrassing, seriously, NOBODY is impressed that you just learned a new word) that hasn't already been said a thousand times. OUT of the box they're quality sound...lotsa bass available. THERE is a 'burn-in' period where just by playing sound through them they become even clearer...more 'crisp'. Excellent. I read a trillion reviews like most of us before buying...these happen to be one of those rare times where 'fan-boy'ism is irrelevant. In other words...unless you get a 'dud' pair somehow, these are ACTUALLY good. As you've read before, the phones themselves ARE big...however, when I picked them up for the first time I was surprised at how light they are....and frankly, I think they look great...and if I want to wear them outside...I'll wear them outside, why should I give a monkeys nostril what anyone else thinks about how I look. I've got bigger concerns in my life. The pads, as someone else has mentioned, have a great 'squishyness' to them. Normally with new headphones I have to 'wear them in' until the plastic alleviates to my head. I can't speak for anyone else, but out-of-the-box I've had these on my head for over six hours at a time and no real discomfort..and they will only get better. Nice. Also, while not being an 'audiophile', I couldn't care much less about 'soundstage' and all the other esoteric nuances of that realm...HOWever...like others...when listening to files that I've heard many times before...I really CAN hear sounds that I've never heard before with these things. Impressive. Finally, if you get these things at whatever low price you can, you will not be able to say you got a bad deal(again, unless you get a 'dud'). No Way, no How...even if you've been buying the overpriced stuff for years. If, on the other hand, you succumb to fanboy-istic reviews of something else,,,you will likely NOT know what you're passing up. Your life won't be over...your children will probably be born upside down and naked like everyone else,,,You'll just've missed out on a good value, nothing more. And the REAL 'finally': They cannot save your soul, they're only headphones...but they are a rather honorable value in a rather dishonorable commercial world. And that's all I have to say about that. Have a noble life.

Full-sized headphones with full sound,

These are full-sized over ear headphones and have large 50mm neodymium magnet drivers. They are not open but not completely closed either. I would call them semi-open. With the ring port anti-resonace structure they leak a little sound at med-high volume and you can still hear around you with them on. I would guess perhaps at most a 10db reduction. Not nearly as much reduction as Inner ear monitors with typically have 20db or more. The 11.5 foot cord exits the left cup with a thick insulated flexible material that doesn't tangle too easily which terminates to a gold 3.5mm stereo mini phono with a gold 1/4 inch push on adapter. The quality of the materials is top notch for the price and it feels a little heavy on your head with a 11.64 oz weight. The cups protrude quite a bit from your ears so you can't lay on your side with them on. They will get warm on your ears but never too hot or uncomfortable.
If you have large ears I recommend the foam insert trick(you just stuff a ring of foam under the inside of the pads to fluff them out). I didn't need it with my ears but it was fun to implement and increases sound stage without any large bass reduction. The bass goes down to about 35hz at a good volume it will go to 8hz as specified but you would have to crank the volume too high. The bass is very flat and smooth up to the mids which are a bit recessed but can be brought out by taking some of the heavy ring felt that covers the drivers under the earpads. The earpads are removable with a soft and comfy pleather type material instead of the leather found on the rx900s(which also makes those cans a bit bass heavy). The nominal impedance is only 48 ohms so you really don't need a headphone amplifier and can play straight out of any portable player. The high frequencies are crisp and clear and my hearing only goes up to about 16-18khz so I can't tell you how high they really go. They are not tinny or sibilant at all compared to my cx300 iems which have great bass impact but not as controlled at much harsher and sibilant highs that I have to eq down to enjoy. The rx700 don't need too much eq and they sound great without eq if your source doesn't have one. Where the cx300s sounded like they were in your head with the sound in a narrow space, the rx700s have a full rich sound with a wider sound space. The clarity and detail will reveal the limitations of your source. I highly recommend these headphones if high sound quality is your priority. They do not fold up or anything and they are impractical for portable use but very comfortable and conform to your head with easy adjustment of the full width headband. A final note I must add is that you really need to burn them in by playing something on them for a few days. This way you don't have to hear the sound of the new drivers loosen by the natural break in process.

Amazingly sharp and punchy. Perfectly shaped ear cups. I can wear these for hours without issue. Music sounds unreal with this headset. Movies are great and these are the best headphones for gaming that I've ever heard.

That's right, you heard me, this is as good as the Two Hundred Dollar Audio Technica ATH-A900. Great highs and crazy good bass. In the below fifty dollars market, nothing can beat these. Heck, this even beats some phones around a hundred dollars too!

I got these headphones after looking through pages and pages of headphones and their reviews when I was looking for the perfect cans for under $60. These headphones sound awesome. They fit very nicely around your ears and they're very comfortable for long periods of listening. I'm not sure why some have complained about them getting hot, this was somewhat of a problem when I had long hair. These are quite large, so they can be very uncomfortable if you do have long hair. The bass is great, not the overwhelming "boom" I was expecting, but it's still great sounding bass. If you want a bigger boom then just change your EQ settings to hip-hop, or if you want to go even further, buy an amp!
They sound great straight out of the box, give them some time to "loosen up" and they'll sound even better. Yes, they're VERY large, so they aren't exactly the "mobile" type, so if you are looking for stylish headphones, look elsewhere. These cans are designed to sound good, rather than look good, which is... the whole point in wearing headphones? I still, however, take them to school. Not large enough to not fit in my bag, they even provide good warmth during cold winter days! I have gotten comments about them being over-sized, but I have gotten even more about how great they sound! Oh and I almost forgot to mention, these are PERFECT for gaming. When I wear them while playing PC games they completely isolate me from the outside world, and that's with the volume at ~75%. The acoustic side of these is also magnificent, you can hear the strings like if the guitar is being played next to your ear. Yes, Bose quality! All in all: Great sounding headphones, especially for the price. They are going to be larger than you expected. They might get warm after long periods of use (4+ hours). Perfect for gaming, and pretty much any type of music. Buy them if you're on a budget!

The sound quality coming out of these cans for the price is fricking amazing. The bass has a great thump to it but doesn't distort the mids/highs at all. The soundstage is great, perfect for gaming. The actual build quality of these is fantastic. They're huge! Even bigger than my sony xb500's.
for $30, there's no way you can go wrong. GET THEM.

The sound is pretty good, I've yet to burn these in past 100 hours yet(more like 60 as time of this writing). I've used these for at least a week so far. A clear improvement over my old Sennheiser PC-150 gaming headset though. I also used a Sennheiser HD 570 in the past and this has a better bass from those as well along with a more varied soundstage.
The only downside here for me is comfort. I have fairly large ears so while they fit inside the cups, they're pretty much touching the pleather along with the felt covering the speakers. Also as with any closed headset they do get warm over long periods of listening, but I've gotten use to it. This set of cans also feel a bit tight as if trying to slightly squeeze your head. The first day I actually got a headache after wearing these, but it hasn't occurred since. For it's price, it's really good. But the comfort is clearly lacking - and that's my main gripe. I'm sure it's more comfortable to others, but for me, not so much. I can only stand listening to it for maybe 1-2 hours on end before I have to take it off. Maybe it's something that'll grow on me over the coming weeks and months, but I doubt it'll change much.

I love the sound that these produce. Deep punchy bass, and the muffs are oversized (I have a big head, and these cover my ears completely) very comfortable, etc. The only real drawback is that these get really hot within ten minutes of wearing them. I bought these to use for editing podcasts, and they work perfectly for that.. but I wouldn't want to game in these since it gets alittle too hot in a short amount of time wearing them.
A+ quality, sound D+ on heat |
