Amazon.com Product Description

One of the first of a new generation of high-definition, rear-projection televisions, JVC's 61-inch HD-61Z575 widescreen LCoS TV is based on the company's D-ILA (Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier) microdisplay device, the highest-density microdisplay device available in 2004. The D-ILA rear-projection TV is fully high-definition compatible, offering 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution and a 0.7-inch D-ILA device in a 3-chip design. The set also features JVC's Four-Point Color Management system and its exclusive Digital Image Scaling Technology (DIST), which upconverts incoming signals to deliver sharp, vivid images.

The 3-chip structure of JVC's D-ILA chip has the ability to continuously reproduce a flicker- and burn-free picture. In addition, an invisible pixel structure prevents color or motion artifacts, and a true analog gray scale provides outstanding gradations of black. For reliability, it uses an optical-stable inorganic alignment layer.

DIST upconverts all 480i and 480p signals to 720p using a JVC-exclusive algorithm. Jagged lines inherent in source signals are smoothed, vertical resolution gets enhanced. JVC's Four-Point Color Management delivers vivid colors by selecting 4 points from the color spectrum and separately adjusting each.

HD DSD (Digital Super Detail) edge enhancement is active on still-, fast-, and slow-motion areas of the picture for crisp, defined edges. Other features include Dynamic Gamma Control Circuitry, TheaterPro 6500K color temperature, Digital Noise Clear circuitry, an interactive plug-in menu, XDS ID display, and Natural Cinema 3-2 pulldown reversal (with on/off capability) for all telecine sources.

JVC's unique "Natural Progressive" picture improvement technologies optimize signal quality before a picture reaches the screen. Natural Progressive technology doubles the image data in each field and uses advanced 3D interpolation to display a solid image with no noticeable scan lines and to eliminate jagged edge noise and image trails.

An HDMI-compatible input with HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) offers an uncompressed digital connection for the transmission and display of high-definition audio/video programs. The set also includes dual auto-sensing component-video inputs, assuring the best possible picture quality from DTV, D-VHS or DVD, as well as 3 S-Video inputs and 4 composite-video-based AV inputs. Front-panel AV inputs (including S-video) simplify hookups with camcorders or other video devices.

The HD-61Z575 receives not only stereo broadcasts, but Second Audio Programming (or SAP), too, and you always have Advanced Hyper Surround to simulate surround sound from any 2 speakers. BBE High-Definition Audio improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.

JVC's AV CompuLink III simplifies operation with other JVC audio and video products, and an NTSC tuner offers split-screen and multi-screen PIP viewing.

Product Description

LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) has been one of the most eagerly-awaited big-screen TV display technologies. And one of the highest-performing LCoS designs is JVCs D-ILA (Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier). JVC has been building high-end D-ILA-based professional projectors for years and their experience shows in every aspect of their ground-breaking big-screens. The handsome 61 HD-61Z575 uses 1280 x 720-pixel D-ILA devices in a three-chip design. Unlike with conventional LCDs light is reflected off rather than passed through the liquid crystal panels which really improves contrast ratio and black level performance. And unlike DLP-based big-screens the HD-52Z575 uses three image chips one each for red green and blue. The result is incredibly pure natural-looking color. D-ILA panels also provide the highest density of any digital display device pixels are packed very tightly and the spaces between pixels are tiny. Pictures have the smooth seamless look of a top-quality tube TV but with pinpoint precision and consistency that tube-based big-screens cant match. The picture looks terrific right out of the box and will stay that way! The H in HD-ILA stands for high-def and youll want to connect an HDTV tuner as soon as possible because HDs stunning clarity will knock your socks off! To help standard TV signals look closer to HD the HD-61Z575 uses JVCs exclusive Digital Image Scaling Technology (D.I.S.T.) which upconverts lower-res video signals. Even on a screen this large images will have more natural texture and depth. Other proprietary JVC technologies ensure optimum picture quality at all times. The Four-Point Color Management System delivers vivid color reproduction by selecting four points from the color spectrum and adjusting each color separately. Performance is further enhanced by HD DSD circuitry which works on still fast- and slow-motion areas of the picture to maintain crisp defined edges. The HD-62Z575 has 5 A/V inputs including two ...

2.0 out of 5 stars Can you say "chromatic aberration"??, February 2, 2005
This review is from: JVC HD-61Z575 61" HD-ILA Micro-Display Television (Electronics)
I have been through 3 of the HD61Z575 sets in the last 2 weeks. They all suffer from chromatic aberration: whenever there is a high-contrast object on the screen (e.g., white letters on a dark background, such as displayed using an on-screen guide) there is a one-pixel-wide stripe of green on one side of the object, and a one-pixel-wide stripe of magenta (reddish) on the other. Darth Vader has a halo when moving across a light background!!!

If you don't mind spending upwards of $3k on a TV, and having such flaws, this TV is for you: the HD is truly spectacular. However, if you are one to "tweak" the settings on the TV to get the best picture possible, once you see this flaw, you won't be happy with the set. The flaw was supposedly fixed in models made after August 2004, but the 3 December 2004's that I have had in my house all had this manufacturing flaw that can't be adjusted. Of course, I know that the picture won't be "perfect" on any TV set. However, this is not seen in other technologies (JVC is LCOS-based).

HD material is truly awesome on this picture, except for the flaw. If it is something you don't notice, then I recommend this TV. If you are a discriminating TV viewer, and are concerned about such things as black levels and true color reproduction (all technologies have plus's and minus's in these categories), then this flaw will not be something you can live with.

Lamp/fan unit on 52z585 broke after only 4 months. They (Brandsmart) service says i get 2 free replacements then I'm on my own. Buyer beware. Good picture but feeling nervous about long term reliability. Don't buy this TV. Next time, I'll buy a Sony.
